Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Traveled with 6 family members ages 21 to 60 to the stunning Amalfi Coast. We stayed at the Chalet de Mar Villa, a stand alone house which is associated with the Amalfi Hills Hotel. Our contact Francesca met us at the property and guided us up the 216 stone steps to our destination. The views from the wrap around terrace are spectacular, the sea, hills and the villages dotting the hillside. There are lemon and apple groves on the property adding to the beauty. The write up of the property states it is air conditioned; this is not quite accurate. Both bedrooms have individual air conditioning units, but the living room, kitchen and bath have no air conditioning. It was sunny and 96 degrees daily our week there so it was HOT in the house, including the rooms with air as the air conditioning units do not work well. Other issues, sleeping for 6, pillows for 4, literally only 4 pillows- there were no pillows for those sleeping on the pull out couch. You are there for the beach yet there were no beach towels and we we asked about this, we were told we could buy beach towels in town, There is a washing machine and clothesline - no laundry soap. Management needs to provide sufficient pillows, beach towels for six and laundry soap. There is a keurig type coffee machine which did not work and the small espresso machine - a working coffee maker should be provided by management. The biggest issue for me - ANTS! Literally thousands on the outside of the house in one spot and hundreds made their way into the kitchen/bath area. I boiled 5 large pots of water and killed as many as possible on the outside and windexed those inside. When I spoke with Francesca regarding this issue, the response was to expect ants due to the fruit trees. For the most part, Francesca was responsive to our requests, she brought a large fan and umbrella and was helpful finding a driver for us when needed. The listing states you can use the hotel pool. Francesca said we would need to "book pool time" When we attempted this, we were told we could not use the pool. That was disappointing - no reason was given, just no. The location of the house is remote and walking to the town of Amalfi is not really possible, it is possible but VERY difficult. There is a small area about 20 minutes walk with a bar, restaurant and small store but otherwise the bus or private driver is needed. We attempted to walk into Amalfi our first full day there but the traffic is crazy, the road is a one lane road with traffic going in both directions and there is no shoulder. You are frequently walking through tunnels with buses, cars and scooters. People are doing it but it is dangerous. Also you are constantly walking up/down stairs and steep inclines. Francesca recommended a driver and he was GREAT! Gerardo was always on time, had an air conditioned van, gave great recommendations and we were lucky he was able to drive us as much as he was. Contact him at jerry@amalficoastprivatedriver.it (phone +39 333 142 8715) Transportation is not cheap and we were not prepared for this. Expect to pay at least 10 euros per person for a 15 minute ride anywhere. We took the ferry to Capri for the day and a smaller boat to Positano, both beautiful don't miss going to these locations. Our trip back to Rome to the airport cost 400 euro. Overall, the area is beautiful, it is quite difficult to get around and plan on higher costs than expected, but you likely will never have more beautiful views!

We rented a two room apartment with acces to pool (payment) and a balcony with see-view.... there was no acces to any pool and a terrace in front of the house...... Francesca our contact couldn’t do anything....... though she was in a high level of service regarding everything else.... this is false advertising.

We stayed in an apartment about half way between Pogerola (at the top of the hill above Amalfi) and Amalfi itself. The apartment was very clean, tidy and well-equipped. A bus stop is a few metres away and buses pass each way about every half hour during the day and hourly later on. (Don't try to walk into town unless you've got very good legs and are used to traffic on very narrow roads. Whatever happens, don;t use a taxi as they're outrageously overpriced. The best way to arrive in Amalfi is by ferry from Salerno. They're fairly regular and take 35-60 minutes depending on how many stops they make. (8 Euros) There's a longer and pricier (19 Euros) ferry from Sorrento which goes via Capri (and sometimes Positano). Arriving by sea is a most appropriate and relaxing way. (We'd also recommend using the ferries to get around the Amalfi Coast to see the smaller towns and Capri/Sorrento.) Check in was easy and Francesca gave us a lift down from Pogerola (where check-in is) to the appartment and explained everything and left us to it. Magnificent views from the terrace. She was also available at the end of a Whatsapp message to answer any questions or give advice (including on whether a particular restaurant was any good. Grazia! We loved our stay and would happily go back (both to Amalfi and the apartment) should the chance occur.

This was my fiancés and I first time in Italy and we looking forward staying in the Amalfi Coast. Francesca and Gerry were such wonderful hosts, it made our stay so much more enjoyable. Francesca made wonderful recommendations and was always available if we needed anything. We went to Gerry’s Pub a few times while we stayed here, and he even came to pick us up- what service! Gerry’s food was wonderful which was cooked by his talented wife. He was also wonderful to talk to. We would highly recommend staying here! It felt homey 😊.

Just a 20 minute bus ride from Amalfi or a very long 800 stairs away the Amalfi Hills apartment is set in a gorgeous peaceful location overlooking the sea in the small village of Pogerola. It was a lovely retreat with a handful of great restaurants and the fab Jerry's bar. Apartments are spacious and clean and we were well looked after by our hosts. Would highly recommend.
