Excellent historic hotel on a cliff top overlooking Amalfi Coast. Views from our room which has a spacious terrace located on 2 floor were simply breathtaking. Breakfast was outstanding with wide range of cold meats, cakes fruits, bakery and juices available. This was a Continental style but it was enough for us to last entire day till dinner.

Air condition was quiet and efficient. Property is surrounded with much more expensive hotels so it does feel like good value for money. Hotel staff was extremely helpful.

Room was rather small and did not have tea / coffee facilities and nor wine glasses. It is quite a steep walk from Amalfi town along busy drive shared with traffic.

Overall we would recommend this property if you value romantic sea views

My husband and I stayed here during a recent trip. We thought it was great value. We had a nice room, were offered a lovely breakfast daily, and had spectacular views. We enjoyed the walk down the long winding stairway to town through lemon orchards and by quaint homes. We used the bus service from town each evening. It was prompt and very convenient. Parking spaces for vehicles were available. Also, the hotel is located on the main road to the Amalfi coast, which is convenient for those traveling by car/car service in that direction.

We had originally booked a VRBO that was disastrous, and we were so fortunate that there was one room left for us at Il Nido. I wish we had just booked there in the first place! It was a great value for the location and amenities. The room was somewhat small, but all we did there was sleep and shower anyway, unless we were hanging out on the terrace enjoying the amazing view. It was sort of a hike down to the town, but there are 3 or 4 different routes to keep it interesting. The staff was very helpful and helped us arrange a taxi to extricate ourselves from our VRBO, as well as affordable transportation to the airport in a very nice Jaguar. The breakfast spread was amazing, and everything was fresh and delicious. Il Nido is not as luxurious as a couple of the nearby hotels, but for 1/3 of the price, it is definitely a great place to stay!

We had such a wonderful experience at this hotel!

Amalfi is incredible & you don’t want to stay inside too much, so this hotel was perfect for what we needed when we were there.

It’s a beautifully traditional hotel/room but had every renovation needed to make it easy and enjoyable, e.g. a lift for baggage, great shower with amazing water pressure, a plasma TV, great air-conditioning, etc.

The included breakfast didn’t disappoint, with fresh fruit and pastries (and cakes!!) every morning and attentive staff to bring you great coffee straight away.

And the staff were SO friendly and helpful. They could answer every question with so much information which made arriving / exploring / departing so much easier! And it is so close to the ferries & buses for a quick trip to Capri or Positano!

The only downside is the intense walk back up the hill to get back to the hotel, but that is a standard in Amalfi so no reason to complain there.

I would recommend this hotel to any friends travelling to Amalfi ☺️

We absolutely loved this hotel. We had the room on the top floor with a large patio and loungers. The room was quiet, view was superb, bed comfortable, great shower. No kettle in room but they brought one as soon as we asked. Minibar prices were what you would pay at a store, no intent to rip off the guests.

The walk from town was reasonable and a perfect balance between being in town yet away from the crowds and noise. A few restaurants at the base of the steps and nice rooftop bar at a hotel there as well.

The buses are a bit crazy, unpredictable and full. Recommend ferries where possible and not staying too far outside of city centre unless you plan on going yo a hotel for a beach vacation and staying there. Cabs are a complete ripoff.

The owner of the hotel and Francesca along the breakfast staff were so helpful and friendly. Speaking of breakfast, it was so good! Eggs to order if you wish, a great spread of fruit, pastries and cheeses. Made to order espresso and Coffees.

We would recommend this hotel and would stay there again. Also recommend a boat rental from Jack.it boats at bottom of stairs. Great day on the water. No license required.

Fair way uphill out of town and involves around 200 steps and a walk along a main road to get there.
On arrival your first thought is a shower and getting into a nice cool air conditioned room. The shower didn't work unfortunately and nor did the aircon, which wouldn't allow you to set the temperature below 25 degrees.
I went down to reception to let the manager know about the shower and ask how to work the aircon control panel as we were hot and sweaty from our climb up from town.
We were promised a plumber would sort the shower in an hour. However the old manager guy just shrugged about the aircon and said that's as low as it goes as it doesn't work properly.....nothing he can do about it.
I asked for another room and was told there were none we could switch to so I said we'd leave then as in this heat, working aircon is a must. He then said Room 2 was available and showed me it. The aircon was working in that room but it was much smaller and grubby too so I said we'd leave.
Our room (3) was over 400 euros. He offered us the chance to leave if we paid his minimum fee of 310 euros. So kind.
So we just had to suck it up. Had to sleep on top of the sheets to try to stay cool at night and woke to see the mosquitoes had enjoyed the buffet.
It's a shame we didn't equally enjoy our breakfast buffet! No hot food, no toast, no fruit (other than lemons and a few well grapes). Plenty of sugary cakes in sellophane packets though if that's your thing.
Fruit juice? Sure....if you like watery orange squash from a machine.
Cheap pungent coffee by the gallon though.

The one bright spot was the lovely lady on reception in the morning who apologised, waved the bill on our food and drink and gave us a discount. She said she wished she'd been on the desk the previous day rather than the miserable old owner/manager we encountered.
First bad review I've given. It was worth around 150 euros. The price is an absolute rip off. Look elsewhere.

Response from Francesca Cavaliere, Direttore generale at Hotel Il Nido
Responded 26 Sept 2023
I don't think there was a need to write an indictment against someone who has been doing their job for 60 years. Small and insignificant problems that I tried to solve by also offering the possibility of changing rooms. Maybe she didn't like me, but in the morning I usually say good morning to the people who pass by the reception. She, perhaps, is an exception. Best regards Michele Cavaliere

Outstanding hotel in the town of Amalfi, Italy. Aldo and Francesca go out of their way to make you feel at home. Beautiful sparkling clean room with balcony overlooking the sea; amazing views. The breakfast each day was always delicious and fresh with so much variety. Just the perfect place to stay when on the Amalfi Coast. Thank you Il Nido for everything!

Such a nice hotel with a beautiful location. The staff is excellent. Very helpful with a free shuttle into town. Breakfast was especially nice every morning. We ate dinner at the restaurant a few times also which was very good. We would definitely stay here again. The one improvement needed is a curtain on that bathroom window overlooking the bedroom. Wakes the other up when that bright light goes on!

Recently returned from a 5 days stay at this hotel. We had a superior room with ocean view. One, if not the most amazing views I've had from a hotel room ever. Stunning. Terrace was very large for Europe which we loved. Close to City Center but you do have to go down and up a number of stairs. Breakfast very good. Bed (comfort) and shower (size and water pressure) more than adequate. Staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms are plenty large and very clean.

My only compliant is the AC. We came back to our room two days in a row after full days of walking, stair climbing and sweating and room was 85 degrees. Somehow it was shut off both times and we had an extra key card in to keep it running. It worked reasonably well when it was functioning but not great. That was irritating.

Overall: B+, would book again

Great hotel with great views. 13 minute walk to town. Staff was extremely helpful. Aldo checked us out and was great. We didn’t catch the name of the others that worked at the front desk but they were wonderful as well. Breakfast was simple but very delicious. The stay was very relaxing and the balconies have great views. Would recommend!

Agree with Sandra. About a 15 minute walk. Care: parts of the walk are on little or no footpath (you are walking on the road or gutter) so be careful .
