Villa Annalara is located on a steep rock, "la Villa", suspended between the mountains and the sea, in the historical center, in a particularly suggestive position. Ideal place where you can revitalize your body and soul, offers relax and strong emotions. The lift will lead our customers on a big terrace, nestled in the green landscape made of lemon trees and age-old plants, surrounded by bougainvilleas, rhododendrons and geraniums. It is like a window on the charming panorama of Amalfi.

1. Location. When you approach Amalfi from the water the town appears in a V shaped upward slope. Annalara is at the top. It offers a magnificent view overlooking the town and the water. With cliffs on both sides, one’s view is funnelled to the Duomo di Amalfi dome in the main plaza and the harbour below..
Getting there is unique. Walk straight up the Main Street in town( it changes name several times but goes straight), through a marked gate in a stone wall, walk under a vine covered arbour flanked by gardens, into a stone walled tunnel to and up a private elevator to the hotel’s terrace. The alternative is 400 stairs( best for going down!).
2. The hotel. With only six rooms, it has a B&B feel and a sense of having it all to yourself. The terrace where breakfast is served has a fabulous view and the sounds are the birds and church bells.
The hotel serves the standard post Covid breakfast that we found everywhere in Italy- croissants, pastries, yogurt, a few cold cuts, etc and lots of good coffee. The pleasure is eating it on the terrace.
The rooms and amenities( bed, shower, etc..) are quality and compact. Our room had double doors that opened directly onto the terrace.
The owner( Salvatore) and his right hand assistant ( Lucia) were professional and helpful to us with restaurant suggestions, best transportation options and offered us a window into everyday Amalfi life.
3. Area. We made a day trip to Positano by boat( it was rough) and then took the bus( exciting!) up to Revello. Both towns are definitely worth a visit and Amalfi makes a good base. Several of the other hotel gusts were obvious hikers making use of the hotel’s location as a starting point for day hikes further up.
4. Summary. We stayed at Annalara for three nights in late May 2022 and highly recommend it for active couples looking to experience the Amalfi coast. The price / value point is excellent.

Myself and my husband stayed here early October.

Firstly, the hotel is in a great location. It’s close to amalfi centre, but far away enough to feel tranquil.
The terrace area is great with beautiful views.

The host/ owner is also incredibly helpful and knowledgeable.

There are quite a few steps up to the hotel, however there is a lift available.

Rooms could maybe do with a little upgrade.

Only room for improvement would be breakfast which is extremely limited - although the coffee and pastries were great. Apart from the pastries we didn’t feel there was anything else we could eat.

The place is well located so you are near hiking trails and as close to the square, the beach, etc. It is well-maintained and the host tries his best to help. Breakfast was ample, tasty and you have it on the trrrace and have your fill of the beauty of Amalfi

Great view of the ocean from the breakfast terrace. As already mentioned cars restricted so some walking with luggage and the small slow lift could be an issue for some. It rained and was cold so we were stuck in our room when on the hotel - there is nowhere you can sit or even stand in the hotel when it’s raining. Sitting on terraces is fine when the weather allows. It’s a B and B really. There’s no bar and there was no food available other than at breakfast - which was just ok.

Buona giornata salvatore

Hotel Annalara met all our expectations on arrival. The staff are first class, it's home from home. On entering our rooms we were blown away, you find you dont mind whether you leave your room for the duration of the holiday until you venture around the grounds, on several levels overlooking the spectacular scenary. Never will you be so close to the sea the mountains the countryside the Italians the 'life' all in one place. Amalfi is a peaceful location with a great choice of good food to suit all pockets. Be prepared to gain weight if only on the icecreams and frappe's. You will arrive wanting to return and leave feeling just as strongly. A truly wonderful Hotel and located in the perfect place 'Amalfi'.

We stayed for 3 nights. The villa is lovely, the room is tastefully decorated and the staff is polite and professional. Continental breakfast is above average for Italy. Everything is very clean and well maintained. The terrace has a superb view of Amalfi. We bought wine and snacks and would bring them to the terrace every afternoon. There really isn't a loevlier place to have a drink and munchies. Great value for the price.

It is a long walk (with luggage) from the bus stop/boatdock to the hotel. If you are older and not very active, you might want to make sure you have a way to get picked up and brought to the hotel before you book.

We found Villa Annalara relais by chance on the internet and thought it was excellent. Salvatore was very helpful booking day trips and sorted out a wonderful taxi to take us back to the airport. It was immaculate in its cleanliness and all the people who worked there were very friendly.
AnnaLara is located in a beautiful spot high up on the hill overlooking the sea and it was lovely sitting on the terrace relaxing in the afternoons. The stairs were being renovated while we there, but the lift was clean and much quicker !
Pompei is an absolute must, particularly a guided tour.
Capri was very busy and unless you want to go shopping, stay in AnaCapri.
Ravello is beautiful and if you're up for it, walk back to Amalfi rather than getting the bus back down.

Word of warning - it costs about 100Euros for a single taxi journey as it's an hour and a half from the airport.

I have reserved this hotel for 4 nights on the last month of April 2006 after to have read all the reviews on this website about a lot of Amalfi hotels.
In truth I have made a mistake on the reservation, I have booked Villa Annalara instead of Villa Lara (n° 1 in the Amalfi hotels list).
Both hotels are located on the same villa and the pictures are similar, so it’s very easy to make this mistake.
The Annalara is a 3 stars, but it’s much better than a lot of 4 stars that I have seen until now.
The rooms are beautifulst and very well equipped (some with jacuzzi’s bath or shower).
The reception is small but nice, and the staff is very friendly and help you to arrange the excursions
The patio, overlooking the sea with a fantastic view, is very big (I think more of 100 sq.meters) where you can take a good breakfast or a drink at the sunset.
Moreover are some places upper the patio where you can take a sun bath.
It’s true that the stairs to the villa are very bad, dirty and damaged, but usually all the customers use the lift.
The car parking is safe but expensive (18 euro per day) but in Amalfi it’s impossible to find a free place for the car and the rates for a safe parking are similar in the other hotels (from 15 to 20 euro).
Finally I’m happy to have made a mistake on the booking because the Villa Lara’s patio is very small (I think no more than 10 sq. meters) and no places to take a sun bath.
Refer the excursions don’t miss:
Ravello (half day by bus – beatiful Villa Cimbrone)
Positano (all the day - 25 minutes by boat)
Capri (all the day - 45 minutes by jetfoil boat)
Atrani (half day – by walking, only 500 meters far from Amalfi)
About the food we have tried more restaurants, but the best one is “al Tarì”on the main road.
Try to taste the “scialatielli” and the “fusilli”, fabulous pasta.
That's all, have a good time in Amalfi !!!
