Recently returned from a much anticipated trip to Sorrento and Il Nido was our first port of call, chosen from the great reviews and it didn't disappoint. The hotel is small charming and very relaxing with amazing views. As a family of 4 we had a quadruple/family room with balcony and wonderful sea views across the Bay of Naples, room was spotless with queen bed and 2 singles however I felt it was a little cramped for our needs and the storage space was minimal so we had to live out of our suitcases. The bathroom was good size although again no real storage space, the monsoon shower was lovely, towels were unusual very lightweight cotton not towelling but were fine and replaced daily. We enjoyed a number of meals in the lovely restaurant with once again magnificent views, the quality and prices were very good with a nice selection of very reasonable wines. The breakfast was a little haphazard as I would say the usual self service was changed to service behind the counter and the staff were under some pressure at times, however this did not detract from the amazing freshly squeezed orange juice and wonderful coffee with delicious pastries we enjoyed each morning. As the hotel is situated 5km outside the centre of Sorrento the shuttle bus service into the town was excellent, running hourly with a break in the middle of day with last service returning at 11.30pm. We enjoyed the peaceful evenings sitting in the little reception areas with an after dinner drink and were treated with great warmth and hospitality by Dino and all the staff at all times, we were most touched and appreciative when on enquiring about a taxi to our next destination Dino himself drove us into town. If you are looking for a peaceful base near Sorrento with great views and very good value clean accommodation look no further than this little "nest" (Nido)!

If you are looking for a luxury hotel, this may not be your best choice; however, this is a boutique hotel with spectacular views, a great location and free shuttle to the city center all day every 30mins. The hotel restaurant has the best view ever and the food is delicious. The hospitality and customer service of the owner and staff exceeded our expectations. We made a reservation in Hotel IL Nido in Sorrento or that's what we thought based on the internet photos; however, it was the Hotel IL Nido in Amalfi. When we arrived in Sorrento, we had no reservation. We sorted it out and Dino understood the situation, and helped us to contact the hotel in Amalfi (which had the worst attitude, customer service and charged us anyways even though Amalfi gives them lots of business). Dino offered us a stay for 2 nights and reduced the charges that the Amalfi property manager charges us for "no show". Additionally, he gave us a room with a great ocean view and balcony. On top of that Candida allowed us to use their laundry machines and they allowed us a late check out, which turned out to be later than what we and Dino were expecting due to a delay in a cooking class we signed up for. At the end we gave Dino a great tip for all the help, assistance, and trouble. Dino and the staff are amazing people and their hospitality is something you don't see often. We'll definitely stay in Hotel IL Nido in Sorrento, NOT in Amalfi. In fact, we prefer Sorrento and some of the other less crowded towns rather than the commercialized towns like Positano and Amalfi. We recommend this hotel to anyone who is not only looking for great views and location but also great service and hospitality.

Budget friendly stay with 5 star service! After a long travel day, my husband and I arrived to the hotel tired and starving. The owner informed us the restaurant was closed, but they could make us some cold dishes like meat and cheeses. We were thrilled! We ended up eating at the restaurant several times and were NEVER disappointed. (Try the baked zucchini, steak, and french fries. Trust me. I am still dreaming about those fries... ) The incredible food, breathtaking views, and relaxed atmosphere made our evenings at the restaurant some of our favorite memories from our time in Sorrento!

We stayed in the last room available. It was rather small, so I would recommend splurging for a larger room with an updated bathroom. The mattress was extremely firm and uncomfortable for us. Because of this, I asked the owner if we could have a different room. While he said that was not possible, he offered to CHANGE OUR MATTRESS to a softer one!! I was floored! This truly shows the length the staff will go to address any problem and make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for incredible service, views, and food at a budget friendly price!

This was our second stay at Il Nido – we had stayed there 12 years ago, and returned this summer, hoping that the hotel was as good as we remembered. This time, we came with a number of family members, and all agreed that it was a great choice of hotels.

First off, the hotel is beautifully situated, overlooking the Bay of Naples, across from Vesuvius. The rooms are clean and ample, with balconies containing a couple of chairs and a small table. The views of the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius are stunning.

There is a shuttle bus shared with 3 other hotels, which goes back and forth into the heart of Sorrento. While very convenient, at times there was not enough room for everyone, especially at night. However, there were often cabs available in the same location as the shuttle stop.

On our last trip there, we had only eaten at the hotel’s restaurant on our last evening; we swore not to make that mistake again. We ate almost every dinner there during our stay, each better than the last. Breakfast (included) was also delicious, with fresh-squeezed orange juice and a variety of menu items. Also, there is a balcony along one side of the restaurant where we often ate – amazing views of the Bay and Naples.

The proprietor of the hotel went above and beyond, helping us make arrangements for tours and answering our questions. He was always available whenever needed and went “above and beyond” on several occasions.

We were so happy to see that the hotel, if anything, had improved since our last visit. We hope to visit again some day.

Our second visit to this charming hotel. The views are totally stunning across the bay of Naples. A balcony room is a must to be able to just sit and take in the view that is forever changing with boats coming and going. It is quite spectacular at night with all the twinkling lights and usually fireworks somewhere!
The staff here are so kind and welcoming. Dino and Candida are always there at any time to help. The housekeeping team do a superb job of keeping the rooms spotless. There is a very plentiful and varied breakfast and we ate here four times for dinner, each time delicious, the best cannelloni ever! The staff in the restaurant are lovely.
The mini bar fridge in the room is very useful and very fairly priced. Indeed everything here is very good value and it is great to be away from the hustle and bustle of the town and enjoy the beautiful views from the room balcony or the superb restaurant terrace.
There was also a kettle with tea and coffee in the room this time which is very rare in Italy. Much appreciated by Brits!
We had an early flight before the shuttle bus started so Dino very kindly took us to the station to make sure we could get the airport bus.
A delightful place to stay with courteous and genuine people who really do their best to look after their guests. We will no doubt be back!

This hotel is very clean and in a great higher position that enables great views across the Gulf of Naples towards Mount Vesuvius, Napoli and the Islands of Capri, Ischia & Procida. The owner (Dino) is a very nice and pleasant host and nothing is too much much trouble for him. One time, the joint hotel bus that takes you down to Sorrento and back, didn't turn up. No problem as Dino noticed us all stood at the bus stop and he took us down to Sorrento in his van instead.

The hotel restaurant has some nice food choices and comes out well cooked and tasty. You can eat in the immaculate restaurant or out on the balcony which gives the great views that I mentioned. The breakfast choice every morning is brilliant and I don't think I've ever eaten that much at that time of the day before and this coming from a vegetarian.

The rest of the hotel is very clean, including the rooms. My wife and I loved the tiling in the spacious bathroom.

You can book day tours out to Capri, Amalfi & Positano at the hotel reception. Included in the price is pick-up and drop-off at this hotel. Well recommended and we did two days of this.

If you take a car, there is free car parking on the roof of this hotel. We hired a car in Naples and drove from there to here, but you really don't need to as this hotel provides an hourly shuttle down to Sorrento and back. You can also use the local bus that runs up and down this road, but you have to pay a small amount for that.

From the main road/car park level, there is a fairly steep drop down to the hotel reception. If you are not able to move easily or have a disability, that could be an issue getting up and down that. If you have a car, you can drop off at the hotel reception and then move the car back up to the car park.

Enjoy your stay here. When we go back to the Amalfi Coast, we will book here again!

We had the most amazing stay at Il Nido at the end of April.

I was initially concerned about staying out of town, up in the hills, but it was 100% the right choice. The view of the bay of Naples, over to Vesuvius, from our balcony enthralled us!

Room was modern, spotlessly cleaned daily and even the mini bar was very reasonably priced.

Every member of staff we encountered welcomed us, were willing to put up with our attempts at Italian (even though they spoke excellent English). We ate in the hotel restaurant on the first night, whilst watching the sunset. Food was simply a necessity, but they made an effort to make us feel like VIPs.

The free shuttle bus/coach service worked out brilliantly, once you nailed the timetable and drop off pick up point. The drivers were friendly and it became a fun part of our days adventures.

Was sad to leave (at sunrise), but with thanks to Dino for the lift, we made it to our airport bus.

Grazie mille Il Nido

Thank you so much to the other reviewers and forum posters who steered me to this hotel. We stayed there for 3 wonderful nights last week

First, the location can't be beat. It was very easy to take the free shuttle into Sorrento for a casual day exploring or the large selection of available excursions (to Capri, Amalfi, Pompeii, Naples). The hotel is perched on a hill among orange and lemon groves overlooking Sorrento so the view is unbelievable. I woke up on the first morning and didn't even have to get out of bed to see the sunrise behind Mount Vesuvius. The only thing in the way was my feet.

Second, the facility itself was great. The rooms and common areas were welcoming, clean, and updated. We had two adults and two teenagers traveling so our lodging search at our stops in Italy was a challenge. At most hotels, that meant two very expensive rooms or one insanely expensive suite. The quad room here was perfect for our needs. The room itself was also by far the nicest of the 4 places we stayed in Italy (Florence, Rome, and Milan at similar price points).

Last but definitely not least, the lovely family that runs this hotel clearly cares about delivering the best experience for guests, from the condition of the rooms and common areas, to the great food they serve in their restaurant, and their willingness to go out of their way to help guests. We had an excursion departure that was scheduled too early for their scheduled shuttles or public transport. So we asked at the front desk about alternatives. They could have just called us one of Sorrento's notoriously expensive taxis, but they offered to drive us down themselves instead.

I can't say enough about this place. If I have the chance to travel to this area again, you would have to pay me not to stay here.

This is a nice family run hotel that offers the guest a personal touch. The hotel is located on the hills outside of Sorrento and is easily accessed by either automobile or by the associated shuttle. The rooms are clean and ours included a nice patio with a view. Our room was a garden view but we had an angular view of the sea. The included breakfast is in the hotel’s restaurant and each day due to nice weather we ate on the veranda with sweeping views of Vesuvius and the coast. The breakfast is a self serve buffet and one highlight is the fresh squeezed orange juice, the oranges from this area have a nice sweetness and makes an excellent OJ. The espresso machine give many options and I can vouch for the cappuccino and the espresso as being quite good. We use hotels mostly to sleep and possibly eat, we are not the spa type so this hotel served us well. The restaurant is also quite good and recommended either for a cocktail, glass of wine or full dinner. Local items are on the menu and they will help you make the best selection for you if you ask. The people running this place, a brother and sister, go out of their way to meet your needs. One tip is to use the name of the restaurant the host provides when walking from the train to the shuttle pickup. I used the piazza name and when we got there it was still a good walk to the pickup. Also, it may be possible to be let out near the train station on some mornings. The bus driver will give you some grief but on at least 2 occasions he accommodated guests needs. The management might want to consider this as a normal option.

We stayed here for one week. We had a car which prompted us to book here. Free car park on the roof.
Our room was fairly basic and as I hadn’t paid extra we had no balcony. French window, but it is definitely worth paying extra for a balcony
The main selling point of the hotel is its position in the hills above Sorrento with the most amazing views of the bay of Naples and Vesuvius.
We ate in the restaurant 4 evenings and the food was really good and reasonably priced. Breakfast was fine, plenty of selection on the cold buffet and some hot food, which was limited. The orange juicer was good and we certainly had our daily dose of vitamin C from using it
The free shuttle bus was useful to get in and out of Sorrento. It took about 15 mins each way, for a distance of approx 5 Kms.
There is no pool, but there is a solarium with sun beds and chairs. It was rarely used by anyone whilst we were there. There is a jacuzzi.
The staff are helpful and polite. It is a family run hotel and feels more personal.

I cannot read Italian, but I think I have the general meaning of your question. If you fly into Naples it is best to take the train to Sorrento, then a taxi to the hotel. Even though it seems like a short distance, a taxi from the airport to Sorrento can cost as much as $200.00 and takes over an hour.

It's easy walk to the center of the town , just be aware that there is a break during the day in shuttle schedule 12-3:30 pm ? so not remember exactly but you can reach hotel and ask them .
