Just returned from a week staying at the Grand Hotel Royal. What a beautiful place from the amazing welcome despite the late hour. It is like stepping back in time, big well decorated reception areas all spotlessly maintained and clean. It is not a cheap hotel but you get what you pay for. It is so worth booking the sea view to watch the lights fade and the sunrise over Naples Bay is worth every penny.
The housekeeping staff need a mention the bedroom was so clean, all the bed linen changed everyday and again in the evening all your towels changed, bed turned down and a chocolate on the bedside table.
Breakfast is a lovely unhurried occasion, no buffet right now but you get so many choices from the menu. Nothing seemed to much trouble with any of the staff I met.
Beautiful pool and grounds, the decking area which can be reached from the lift is different can be noisy at times but perfect place to watch the boats come and go. The sea water was much warmer than the pool and so clean.
Very close to the centre of Sorrento 2 minute walk away.
The restaurant I did not sample in the evening mainly due to the lack of choice with being vegetarian but I had the best pizza I’ve ever tasted for lunch.
This is a truly special hotel, thank you all for making it such a memorable holiday in these very strange times.

We really enjoyed our 1 week stay at the Royal. The location with access to the sea and close to the city and the sea view from the bed room was overwhelming. We also very much liked the interior of the dinner and breakfast rooms and special thanks to Concetta at the reception desk who organized all dinner bookings and tours for us! The whole place has a very historic and nice atmosphere. We just thought that the terrace close to the beach / sea looked quite abandoned. If we are back in Sorrento we will again choose the Royal!

The hotel is located in a great area in Sorrento. A short walk from the train/bus station and restaurants/bars. The rooms are a good size and have good facilities (although we did have a lack of hot water the first night we arrived that we were told was a hotel-wide issue but which was fixed quickly). The staff at reception are friendly and helpful and assist with booking taxis/printing tickets. Breakfast is lovely and the service is efficient. We did not try the restaurant. The pool and beach areas are very nice although beware that there isn’t enough sun beds for the majority of guests. Often we were unable to get a sun bed at all and resorted to putting our towels over a chair. The management should look at trying to provide more sun beds for guests during peak season given the price paid to stay at the hotel.

Sorrento is very busy but the Grand Hotel Royal felt like an oasis of calm. The grounds are stunning and expansive. With multiple outdoor terraces, comfortable lounge furniture, a beautiful pool and private “beach deck” directly above the bay.
My room was beautiful and pristine. I had a Seaview Deluxe with small balcony. The seaview rooms are definitely worth the price. The decor was very colorful and I loved the Etro bath amenities.
The hotel is a 12-minute walk to the central Sorrento thoroughfare (Via San Cesareo) with all the shops and restaurants.

The front desk reception was very helpful. (please note you must have a current negative Covid test result. They will arrange a complimentary rapid test on property) upon checkin. (This is info is as of 6 August). Masks are required in all indoor s areas and many with hand sanitizer stations throughout the hotel

We are on our honeymoon and the hotel moved us to a room with a sea view which was nice and a big plus point. The breakfast was nice given they weren't offering buffet i guess due to low numbers staying in the hotel during covid they allowed us to order a nice selection from the menu.

We didn't use the gym or spa etc but the hotel itself is maintained well inside and out with nice decor and furniture in rooms and communal areas.

We had one meal in the evening which was nice in the setting of the hotel however the food we had outside the hotel in local restaurants was better

When we arrived we were informed that the car could not be parked outside on the driveway despite there being plenty of space and that we would have to pay 24euros per night to store the car. This seems extortionate and was no more competitive than parking my car in another private car park in sorrento which seemed unfair given how much we were paying to stay in the hotel. I have not seen this in any luxury hotel i have stayed in before, if it isn't free its usually cheaper than parking outside the hotel.

What really disappointed us was on the last day when we checked out i asked them to get the car whilst we got our bags etc, was asked did we use the minibar and confirmed we had not used anything other than complimentary water, then as we went to get in the car the porter had locked the car and walked away. As i went back into the hotel the porter re-appeared from the lift with my car keys and was informing the hotel reception that we had apparently taken chocolate and orange juice from the minibar.

I'm not sure whether its because we are a young couple or not but certainly didn't leave me with a good impression. It felt like i was checking out of the Holiday Inn on a boys weekend (although have had better checkouts there). Hopefully the hotel can take this feedback constructively

First of all I would like to say that we are well travelled and stayed in many very expensive hotels, Four Seasons , One and Only, Kempinski , to name just a few all of these types of hotels provide a room for guests to shower and change if on a late departure. Our departure at this hotel was 5-45pm so I asked reception if could have the room for a few hours after 12-00 mid day the response was we could have the room till 1-00pm and after that it would be 200 euros I said I thought it was ridiculous to ask for that and didn’t accept the Kind offer . The response from the reception was the hotel was full ? No it wasn’t we asked several members of staff and it was only about 30% to 40% occupancy which we already knew . So the decision from the Manager to try and get an extra 200 euros didn’t work the weather in the afternoon was good and the time passed nicely, but if it had been raining it would have been a long afternoon. Good luck if you have a late departure this hotel will try and make you pay for it , they need to learn from the top 5 and 6 star hotels because COVID 19 may affect them long term .

Booked a last minute trip to Sorrento with my bf, and this hotel left us in awe! The staff was super nice but Domenico and Nello made our trip extra special with recommendation, and helping with all our questions and needs. This hotel is very convenient it’s a maximum 10 minute walk to any location. Also has a private jetty. I would avoid booking any beach clubs and wasting money on beach chairs. I had one booked and didn’t go because their jetty is great, and Domenico will be there to make it even greater. HIGHLY RECOMMEND, you won’t regret it.

If you go to Sorrento and would like easy access to water and fun in the sun, this is a great place to be! I loved being able to just pop down the lift, have a towel spread on my lounger, and enjoy the services of the lifeguard and the bartender at the bottom of a cliff. The pool is lovely as well.

After a booking snafu that was corrected by the manage Antonio, we had the most beautiful, spacious room with a view that was to die for. Believe the pictures online. I particularly enjoyed the decor. We ate lovely breakfasts each day and the only fault I had with the food that we tried, was some snacks at one of the sumptuous bars.

Not only are you right on the water, but also you are within walking distance of all the liveliness of downtown Sorrento. If you can splurge a little or a lot, this hotel is grand indeed!

We stayed here about five years ago when it was a great hotel. Regrettably it’s not deserving of the five stars rating it has. It’s had a lick of paint over the last five years but I would guess that the harsh economic climate has meant a change in management at the top or a change in their business model. We stayed a fortnight in which time it became apparent that hotel guests were not the primary source of profit. There were seven weddings, taking up most of the terrace so that where we liked to sit was not available to us. We had to listen to loud music, lots of shouting, on one occasion fireworks at 23:30. But the real insult was that on the morning of the wedding they washed the terrace, but the day after the wedding they didn’t. They obviously thought the hotel guests were dirty!

On arrival we were told that evening dining was at the terrace restaurant so booked a table. We hadn’t used this restaurant last time as the hotel’s main restaurant was very good. The two head waiters spent most of their time looking at their technology. The food arrived cold, and we saw from our room that the food came from the hotel’s kitchen through the garden with nothing covering it. Only when we walked out did a head water ask what was wrong!

When we arrived we realised that the bathroom was tired. The shaving mirror was loose, the shower head was clogged and didn’t work well, both faults sorted when we complained, then the bathroom door started squeaking and then the washbasin tap.. it was clear that though the chamber maids did a great job no one in seniority spent any time in the room.

Breakfast was great!! Though the heating level on the hot food storers could have been raised a bit!

But the staff were top notch! Helpful, caring and quick to find solutions.

It’s just the lack of detailed management that is so obvious. Guests and staff deserve better

Such a beautiful, clean hotel.
This was our treat having been together for 15 years, and it was so worth it. The room was beautiful and spacious with a huge terrace balcony where you could walk around for an amazing view of the coast. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the breakfast was so easy. I have lots of intolerances, the main one being gluten, but there was something I could eat everyday.
The staff were always smiling and helpful, and the rooms cleaned everyday with chocolates left on our pillows.
Everything about this hotel was perfect, but mainly it is worth every penny for that view.
It's an easy walk into central Sorrento, but far enough out that you don't get much noise.
