The Imperial Hotel Tramontano ,overlooking the most beautiful part of the Gulf of Naples, nourished the romantic culture of the picturesque, sublime and landscapes of 19th century travellers visiting Sorrento. Along with the classic, refined and elegant style: the oldest wing dates back to the 16th century, and its architecture represents the most viewed image of Sorrento worldwide.

Having arrived from a late night flight we were courteously welcomed by the hotel concierge. We arrived in our room to discover they had laid on a delicious snack which was very appreciated.

The hotel is traditional and values its heritage and history. All the staff are professional, courteous and friendly. Meals are taken either on the terrace or the beautifully decorated Four Seasons dining room.
The bedrooms have either a sea or garden view and are tastefully decorated.

We were invited to join the hotel in a 5 course gala dinner to celebrate "Ferragosto" which was held outside around the pool and was a fabulous night.

The hotel is situated close to the port for trips to Capri and the Amalfi coast and is within walking distance to the square and many shops situated in the alleys and walkways.
Meals were served by the staff who were very attentive to ensure all the guests were treated to a high standard of service. The 3 course dinner menu is changed everyday and constitutes three choices for each course.

Thanks to Marrinella, Emilio, Alessandro, Tony and "Jack" the Maitre'd for their excellent service and friendly manner. We hope the tie fitted!!!!

The pool and gardens allow some privacy between guests and are very well kept. Thanks to Pasqual for providing us with towels and sun lounges.

Also thanks to Rosanna on the Conceiarge desk for my daily Italian lessons.

Thank you for a fabulous stay and we look forward to "Torna a Surriento".
Grazie Mille.

We have recently returned from 10 days away at the Imperial Hotel Tramontano which was booked Feb 2020 and we re-arranged several times. It was well worth the wait!! Simply a stunning hotel in terms of location with an imposing position on the cliffs of Sorrento, overlooking Gulf of Naples and across to Vesuvius. The hotel is a few minutes walk to main streets and piazza of Sorrento and also close to Grande Marina which is also worth a visit. We had a late flight so missed dinner but had some food waiting in the room. Throughout the stay reception staff very helpful with arranging trips to Capri and Amalfi coast tour. Only one regret is that we did not book a balcony/sea view which would have been worth the extra money but we enjoyed the view for every meal and when enjoying cocktails on the bar terrace each night. We fully recommend Half Board as the 3 course evening meals (each course has 3 choices per night and nothing repeated over 10 days!) are stunning! We pretty much had individual waiter service as the restaurant is generally quiet as it seems most people venture out into the evening mayhem of Sorrento - we suggest enjoying the variety but convenience of hotel dining in evening and maybe have a little lunch in Sorrento when it is much quieter. We had an awesome pizza! We also avoided the beach mayhem by staying round the hotel pool - also very quiet most of the time and no need to worry a out laying towels out at the crack of dawn. Very nicely bar/grill and drinks are brought to you. We would love to go back but to be honest it would be so hard to top the amazing time we had. It is a real authentic classy hotel and simply perfect Sorrento

We stayed for four nights in late October. After reading some of the reviews I was worried about the shower, the bed and the breakfast. While the shower is small, the water pressure was adequate and the temperature was plenty hot. If they ever re-do bathrooms, from a US citizen perspective, they could get rid of the badet and make the shower bigger. The breakfast was very nice. Always some eggs, bacon, sausage, meats, cheeses, breads and fresh juice. The bed was two twins put together, but it was fine. The concierge helped to arrange drives and tours for Pompeii and amalfi coast prior to arrival. Location and views can’t be beat. It is an older hotel and the rooms are on the smaller side, but it was a perfect launching pad to Sorrento and the rest of amalfi.

This hotel doesn’t justify the price point, we had such high hopes staying here and we were utterly disappointed, not only at the quality of the hotel but the service and attitude of the staff.

This hotel is void of any real genuine customer care. it’s super transactional, as a guest you feel like you’re a hinderance to the staff working there. At this price point that shouldn’t be the case at all! In fairness the lady who cleaned our room all week was lovely and our room was spotless every time she cleaned it.

We travelled with our 2 year old son and it’s safe to say this hotel doesn’t really work for a young child. It is Sorrento so wasn’t expecting it to be uber child friendly but I wasn’t expecting a hotel that charged my wife 8 euro for boiling water for my sons milk, which goes to show these guys really don’t get it. They did remove the charge in fairness after I complained that it was pretty ridiculous to charge for boiling hot water!

There are 2 positives about this hotel, the views from the terrace are amazing and the location is great, but there are better hotels albeit at a higher price
point than this one, and i’m gutted I didn’t pay more to go elsewhere as I feel robbed for the price I paid.

First of all, absolutely beautiful hotel and the staff is very nice. Unfortunately the management of this hotel is not guest centric. I have a beautiful room with all the amenities.
I bought an expensive bottle of wine into my elegant room and the only things to drink it out of was paper cups. When I requested glasses for the room to drink my wine (and my bourbon) I was told they could not bring glasses to my room.

The only way I could get glasses was to order room service at my expense. I guess they expected me to keep/hide the glasses when I was done and hopefully keep them for use during the rest of my stay. After my first AND second night I returned to my room at the end of the day to find that they didn’t even replace my used paper cups from the nights before. I had to call the front desk to have them replaced with new paper cups.

The dichotomy of it all is when I went down to the restaurant in the early morning to grab a cup of coffee for my room they would not accommodate me because they had no paper cups. I was told that I had to order morning coffee through room service only if I wanted to drink coffee in my room.

Again I was told by the very pleasant and probably embarrassed staff that this was a management decision.

Am I being a crybaby? A first class hotel that I paid in almost $500 a night for raises expectations that fell far short. Management should be aware that it’s about more than just a beautiful room. It’s about customer service and doing what it takes to make them happy. Providing real glasses for your room and to go cups for morning coffee seems such a simple way make guests happy

We stayed in room 206 which is a senior suite and it did not disappoint. The living area is absolutely huge with a settee, chair, and large table and chairs as well as lots of other occasional furniture. There is a staircase that then leads up to the bedroom which is again huge and lots of storage space. The room has 2 bathrooms, each with separate toilets, one with shower and one with jacuzzi bath. The views were out of this world, balcony smallish, enough room to stand on but cannot fit a chair. But there is little the hotel can do about this, after all, it is built into the cliff face. There is no tea and coffee making facilities in the room but again, I think that is typical in Italy.
All of the people who have written reviews that suggest the hotel needs a refurb have possibly never visited Italy before- the hotel is traditionally Italian in style, not modern and contemporary like some people are more used to.
Whilst the pool is not huge, it never felt over crowded and we never struggled to get a sun bed. The guy round the pool gives out clean towels and is more than happy to help with beds and umbrellas.
The pool bar food was really nice with an absolute star of a waiter who remembered our preferences!
Breakfast was good, especially if you enjoy pastries!
It is a little disappointing that the hotel don’t make more of the “lift” or the “tunnel” that can be used to go down to the bathing platforms. The tunnel is perfectly safe and easily accessible from the car park. Took us about 10-15 mins walk. However the hotel do not have their own bathing platform so be prepared to pay full price. My only comment would be that the reception staff were not particularly approachable, albeit they weren’t rude!
The guys in the bar on a night made us the most beautiful espresso martini which was always served with such pleasure.
The only slight disappointment was that it was my sons 14th birthday whilst there and I was surprised when the hotel didn’t mark the event, just with a card. If we have been to other hotels this has always been the case and for a four star hotel very slightly disappointing. Not that I would let that stop me coming back.
Not to forget, The location of this hotel simply cannot be beaten, it is amazing!

We had visited Sorrento before, and this hotel ticked all the boxes for location. it remains decorated in a more traditional style, and this extends to many aspects of their service including a wonderful ( inclusive ) white linen service breakfast.
We had a twin balcony sea view room, the beds ( and pillows ) were firm but not too hard, and the bathroom was more than adequate. Service from every single member of staff was immaculate, with particular reference to Rossano in the bar - simply the most polite and helpful gentleman serving wonderful cocktails. The staff at the pool were similarly helpful and attentive, and added to a very enjoyable stay. Grazie mille !

Having just spent a week at this hotel, I have to say, My husband and me weren’t very impressed especially after reading previous reviews. The hotel is very tired and in need of maintenance and a good luck of paint however, what we were surprised with the staff themselves especially the reception area. They were quite rude and not particularly helpful. The bar staff and housekeeping staff were however helpful . On the positive side, the pool is lovely and we enjoyed spending quite a lot of time there . The location of the hotel is also very central to some very decent restaurants , all within easy walking distance. In summary the hotel was average and we wouldn’t stay there again

So the first night we arrived quite late and we were given a room which doesn’t resemble the room we booked. I complained as the room was so tiny I couldn’t walk between the two single beds that had been pushed together to make a double bed and the furniture. The next day we were moved to a larger room which wasn’t much better for the following reasons.

1. The beds are very uncomfortable.
2. There’s a horrible humming noise coming from the air conditioning system that cannot be turned off.
3. If you are over 5’ 9” you can’t stand in the shower without hitting your head on the fixed shower head.
4. The room was in serious need of a renovation. Please see photos below.
5. Food/drinks at the hotel are a complete rip off.
6. The room was dirty. Please see photos below.
7. You can hear water running through pipe work and toilet’s flushing randomly through the night.
8. If you think you’ll sleep before 11pm and after 6am you won’t you’ll be woken up due to random noise from a multiple of things.

The outside areas are nice. The gardens are beautiful’ however when sat around the pool there’s a horrible noise from a giant generator which really takes away the poolside ambiance.
If you take the lift down to the sea the piers and beaches are nice but I found them very touristic and overcrowded.

We paid €3400 for ten nights which I feel was a complete ripoff. At best the room we were given was worth €170 a night with a 3* rating at best.

Location, location, location.

If this review was based on location alone, the hotel would easily have received top marks. On one side the hotel overlooks the spectacular Gulf of Naples and the other you are just a few steps from the heart of Sorrento’s tourist area.

The restaurant/breakfast room and drinking terrace both have amazing views over the Gulf of Naples. The pool is small, but a very pleasant area to spend time and the food we had was at a good standard. I can highly recommend the Club Sandwich at the pool bar.

We booked two Superior Garden Rooms, however, we actually received two standard rooms but with (spectacular) sea views. On first being shown the rooms, we were disappointed, as they were very basic and with only a tiny balcony (standing room only) and very little space around the bed. We asked to see a Superior Garden Room, but one was not available until the following day and they could only move one of the rooms and we wanted to be near our sons room. However, we did view it and although it was bigger and with a large balcony it was not a big enough improvement to move us apart from our sons.

The rooms could definitely benefit from a freshen up and tea/coffee facilities. The water pressure was also poor and on several occasions the water was tepid at best.

Overall we had a lovely stay at the hotel and we never tired of the location and views.
Would we stay again? Yes, but only after the bedrooms had been refreshed.
