Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.

This hotel made such a great impression on me. The view from our room was so gorgeous! The beds and sheets were amazing and super comfortable. We unfortunately didn't find the time to dine in the restaurant they have on location but we did order room service and had a lot of options to choose from. Breakfast was good and opened early- which we appreciated. Staff was super helpful and accommodating. Would definitely come back!

Well where do we start....we booked a 4 night break at the Grand Hotel Aminta and what a fabulous time we had.....the room had a balcony which was a bonus.......the food was so nice with a different menu every evening....the a la carte made it that extra special. The service and staff can't do enough for you they were all so pleasant and willing to help. Fresh towels everyday was lovely and the room being cleaned was nice to come back to. The pool was heated so was nice to be able to use a pool the beginning of May Well! We would definitely return....thank you to all the staff at the hotel xxx

I don't usually do Tripadvisor reviews, but this place motivated me to do one. This is literally the type of hotel most of us worry we are going to get - you know, that place that looks good in pics with an amazing view, but in reality it smells like a out of date Motel 6 where you rent rooms by the hour? I have so much I didn't like, I can't write it all, so know that this is just the tip of the iceberg. Let's begin with the rooms - they smell bad and are decades overdue a refresh - especially at the price this place charges. To be fair, I travel a lot and often stay in high end hotels, but I've stayed in plenty of Comfort Inns, Holiday Inns, Embassy Suites, and Hiltons all of which have been thousands times better than this place for 5-10% of the nightly rate. Next up is the hot tub which felt about 80F/27C - at best - after running the jets several times. Not only did it smell bad, there were rusted speakers with wires hanging out near the water - not good. My daughter loves to swim, so we were excited to see the pool open. However, she did something she's never done in her lifetime - she quickly stopped swimming here because she thought the water was stinky and too cold. This is coming from a kid who has happily spent 5 hours in pools and lakes that in my opinion were a lot worse than this one, but something rubbed her the wrong way about this one which was a big dissapointment. She lives for swimming, but we don't own a pool, so we thought this would be the highlight of her trip. Sadly it wasn't. Next up were the bathrooms. As you'll see in the pics I attached, the bathroom sink in both of our rooms (only 2 people per room, so we needed two rooms for a family of 4), were clogged after use. The shower is sideways in a rounded bottom tub so my size 13US (47 EU) feet were very uncomfortable in this setup. However, the worst part was that with only the hot water knob turned to the max we once again had water that felt about 80F/27C - at best. Seriously - not what would expect from a cheap motel, much less a Tripadvisor winning hotel. As if the ugly decor, uncomfortable mattress and pillows weren't enough- it got so much worse for breakfast where we got to enjoy canned fruits, scary color juices that seemed they came from cans, a limited selection of stale baked goods (defnitely made elsewhere), and literally one meat - ham one day and salami the other. To be fair, our Rome hotel had an amazing breakfast so we were expecting more, but this was seriously <= the cheapest Comfort Inn or Holiday Inn I've ever stayed in - NOT what I was expecting from a luxury priced hotel in Italy. My favorite frustration was the bus which runs on the hour from the hotel and on the half hour in the city, so you pretty much need to plan on being out for a minimum of 90 minutes as bus load is about 20-25 minutes. Even during the empty season of April, I had to stand twice - god forbid you should come during the summer! What was worse about the bus is that the driver is super cranky and shows up early so the bus gets full quick. Literally one minute after the pick up time he's gone, so you are out of luck if you aren't on that bus about 5-10 minutes before the half hour pick up time. We ended up having a problem and had to catch a cab - twice - for 30 euros each way. So let's see, it smells bad in the room and in the pool; the bus service is appreciated but inadequate even during the off-season; the hot tub is basically unusable; the bathrooms suck; the rooms are outdated; the breakfast is horrifically bad; and the location is terrible. On the bright side, it has a nice view. But here's a secret - so do the other hotels, but you might have to walk a little to see it vs seeing it from your balcony. Fortunately Sorrento, the Amalfi Coast, and Capri were awesome so we just ignored this sad reality and had a great time. However, I would never stay here again and will recommend against it to any friend of mine.

Dear ronmartinsen, thank you for leaving your feedback following your recent stay at the Aminta. We understand that this review is your personal opinion and luckily the majority of our clients have a completely different feeling about their experience with us. We understand from what you wrote that you travel a lot and you mostly stay in chain hotels, which tend to be pretty anonymous. Well, the Aminta and in general all Hotels in this area are a little different, you will not find 2 that are similar, but they all have character, something you will not find elsewhere. We are happy that you have shown our tiles in your picture: just for your information, these are handmade tiles from Vietri sul Mare, exclusively made for us. Almost every client who stays at the Aminta mentions how beautiful the tiles are, although they have one defect, since they are handmade they are very delicate and cannot last very long in a hotel room. The rooms you stayed in have been redone more recently that you can imagine. Also, smelling seems to have been a recurring problem during your stay: the hotel smelled, the room smelled, the water (???) smelled: why not tell us about this issue, which we have NEVER heard about. Not only everything “smelled”, evidently water throughout the hotel was at 27°C/80°F. Well, this is another "opinion" as the hot water in the rooms runs at 50°C, the Jacuzzi is at 34°C and the swimming pool is at 28°C. These are not "opinions", they are monitored temperatures, if you had mentioned any of these during your stay, we could have resolved the “problem” by showing you the FACTS. Regarding our shuttle, we actually had a problem with City Hall (“we”, meaning ALL hotel shuttles), as the original bus stop is temporarily closed due to works, therefore there are 20 hotels, plus the public buses using the same bus stop. This could cause some problems with the pickup in town; we are currently closing the rent for a new parking in town that will be available for all hotel shuttles, in the meantime we apologize for the inconvenience. Again, if you had mentioned this issue during your stay we would have explained the situation as we did with other clients who listened and understood. As a suggestion, next time you should book a chain hotel, you will find the same decor and amenities and, even if you are 5000 miles away from home you will feel like you are staying in the hotel next door to your house!

Nice Hotel Breakfast and Dinner at the restaurant are delicious, Maitre De and staff are very attentive. Victoria and John Franco at the front desk were helpful in correcting an issue with Transfer logistics. The Hotel was very clean from the lobby to the guest rooms. We recommend a stay here while in Sorrento.

You will want to take the spectacular 180 degree panoramic view of the Mediterranean sea and coast provided at the Grand Hotel Aminta home with you! The view is only surpassed by the quality of service provided by the entire staff. The dining room food is prepared with high standards and presentation at table is executed with old world style. I continue to be impressed after several visits and feel very lucky and grateful to have found such a prize hotel to enjoy.

Great hotel. Staff were superb, especially the guys at the poolside bar. There were a couple of small issues like the terrible pizza at lunch and some mosaic tiles coming off the steps at the pool which we just put down to wear and tear at the end of a busy season. Breakfast was great and plenty of choice. Because it's a small hotel, all the guests got to know each other quite well and we ended up becoming good friends with some of them which just made our holiday all the more special. There is a free buss that takes you to back and forth from Sorrento and have read some reviews where people have moaned about the grumpy driver. Indeed, he did at first come across this way but after we made it our mission to make him laugh by the end of our stay (which we did), we discovered he's actually a really nice guy so please don't be too quick to judge. All on all, we can't recommend this place highly enough and we came home with some memories that will stay with us forever. Thanks to everyone involved.

Half term stay at the Grand Hotel Aminta in Sorrento. The Hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful, before we arrived they kindly arranged airport transfers and offered alternative public transport options. On arrival at the hotel the reception staff were very friendly, our room had an excellent view of Sorrento, the bay of Naples and the volcano Vesuvius. The room was very clean and comfortable, exactly as I was expecting. We had breakfast each morning in the hotel dining room which was again very nice, the usual choice of continental or cooked breakfast. The hotel is located slightly outside Sorrento up the hillside which gives it such fantastic views, we didn’t find this a problem in terms of getting around as the hotel provided a FREE shuttle bus service to the town. The shuttle bus drivers were excellent and very friendly. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a visit to Sorrento.

We stayed for 4 nights and did not want to leave. The location was perfect and the views over the bay were breathtaking. The staff at the hotel made the stay even more perfect, they could not do enough to help, from restaurant suggestions to fixing a broken suitcase. The free courtesy bus was great and the driver was really friendly. The breakfast was very good and included cereals, yoghurts, fruit, hot cooked items, a selection of breads, pastries, cakes, meats, cheeses and more. The swimming pool was heated and the heated jacuzzi offered a view out towards the bay. We would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a base with a great view close to the town centre but away from the hustle and bustle. Don’t do the organised trips to Pompeii, the train from Sorrento is cheap and so easy and when you arrive at Pompeii you can book a 2 hour guided tour with your entry fee at a fraction of the cost.

What a great place to stay, I stayed with my family, from my original booking I upgraded to better rooms which was well worth it as we got the the top floor rooms with the most fantastic views. The rooms have huge windows to fully enjoy. I hired a car which I parked at the hotel and honestly speaking I wish I hadn’t as there is no need, the hotel runs a shuttle service to main Sorrento and back nearly every hour, you can also walk to the main strip which takes 15mins. The bar and restaurant were great no complaints and both my kids 10 & 13 loved it. I would definitely stay here again without hesitation.
