Hotel La Vue D'Or's stunning views are often celebrated by guests, who also appreciate the cleanliness and the daily upkeep of the rooms. The hotel's service is frequently commended for the staff's cordiality and attentiveness.
However, opinions on the hotel's value and rooms are mixed; some visitors commend the views and cleanliness, while others are less impressed by the food quality and room amenities. The location's tranquility is a plus for many, although its distance from town can be a drawback, despite the complimentary shuttle service.

An excellent hotel on the hillside of Sorrento overlooking the beautiful surroundings of Sorrento and the majestic Mount Vesuvius across the bay. Good customer service was so natural from our welcome by the reception staff to the restaurant waiters and the lobby bar staff, not to mention those behind the scenes in the kitchen who produced a wide and delicious choice of dishes each and every day of out 7 day stay. Our room was spacious and with a balcony with a lovely view and the room was always cleaned each day with fresh towels and bedding as well as soaps and shampoos.
With it`s regular free coach shuttle service running to and from the center of Sorrento it is a perfect choice.
I would highly recommend Hotel La Vue D`Or for their excellent Italian hospitality and friendly service.
All Covid-19 virus preventive measures are in place, with hand sanitizers and compulsory use of face masks adhered too.

This wasnt our original hotel as the one we chose 2 years ago advised they wouldnt open in time. This is a beautiful hotel with great staff. The location outside Sorrento provides beautiful view and there is a free shuttle bus which runs to a reliable timetable. The downside is that you are tied to a timetable everytime you wish to leave the hotel as taxis cost in the region of 50 euros to the hotel. Our room was on floor 6 which is below reception and build into the hillside giving it a great view of the bay. Our room was spotless with great shower decent sized balcony. The towels were replaced daily and bed linen 3 times per week. Breakfast in the hotel is fine - continental with a few cooked items and the chef will make an omlette or fry an egg if you ask though this isnt widely advertised. Lunches in the pool bar are lovely but pricey as you are a captive audience (on average £50 for 2 salads and 2 drinks). The downside of the hotel is the half board evening meal. I suspect the hotel has been beaten down on price by the package companies and are probably providng this at minimal cost. The food is simply awful and bears no resemblance to the quality served at lunchtime in the pool bar. Pasta cooked to within an inch of its life, very little veg, chicken overcooked, tasteless sauces, etc. We opted to eat in town several nights where the food was both delicious and reasonably priced. I'd suggest the tour companies drop the half board and leave travellers with the option to eat from an a la carte at the hotel or dine out

Having looked at previews reviews before booking, it became clear that this hotel attracts widely varying scores across the board. Not that surprising we thought, as guest experiences will differ. However, it was interesting to note that the lower the review score is, the more helpful votes it attracts.
Anyway, we found the hotel up to it's Jet2 3+ grade and our main regret was not anticipating the amount of time spent travelling to and from the centre, which would also impact on the time available to visit other areas.
Our room (553) was a bit short of drawer space, leading to cluttered bedside tables, but was kept absolutely spotless. Dinner was a mixed bag. Plenty of choice in all three courses but cooking quality varied, which unfortunately did not apply to vegetables on offer. The almost exclusive option of baked potatoes led to some very humorous exchanges with Tony, the larger than life Maitre d', who assured me that they were "special", "incredible" or "fantistico", even to the extent that he jokingly offered them as a dessert on our last day!
We found all the hotel staff friendly and responsive and had no reason to complain in our two weeks there. Yes, we did have an initial issue with Pasquale over mask wearing in the shuttle, having made an earlier trip with Lucca when one was not required, but a subsequent glance at the shuttle timetable confirmed that Pasquale was only following hotel policy. We later discovered that the policy does not match the real world in Southern Italy, which appears to match their approach to red traffic lights. Advisory, not mandatory!
Will we return to this hotel? Probably not. But only because we are too old/lazy to get up early enough to catch the first shuttle and make the most of each day!
Tips (in no particular order) : get up early; avoid taxis (min. charge 20 euro); don't miss the last shuttle at 2330; tip Lucca if you get off the shuttle at the station, but don't wait at the station to get picked up; if you forget your mask Pasquale will sell you one for 1 euro; there are SETA bus stops close to the hotel, but check there is not a strike underway and remember that timetables are a bit like red traffic lights; if you decide to walk up to St Agata, check with Chiara to make sure you are clear where the shortcut starts. It's not obvious; unless you want to rent pool towels for 2 euro pp/pd use your room towels instead and dry them on the balcony; tap water is entirely safe to drink and tastes OK; hotel bottled water is too but costs more; beware filling disposable water beakers for use during the night, they disintegrate; hotel local wine by the bottle at 14 euro is good value; there is no facility to exchange dinner for lunch, but the snack menu does have chips!;

Visited the hotel for a weeks stay. Rooms overall lack space and a great view is not always what you get. Breakfast is very limited, which I sometimes expect from hotels in Europe however it was very poor here. Room was very warm the first couple of nights because the hotel had not turned on the air conditioning in the room.
However the staff are very professional and friendly. The pool area and sun terrace are very nice with good views. Be aware small cars are better as parking is a challenge.
Finally if staying here use the shuttle bus (free of charge) don’t use taxis they will charge nearly €50.

Just back from staying at hotel la vue dor. The hotel in itself is lovely. The views from the hotel terrace were amazing. However we paid for a room with a sea view and unfortunately this wasn't really the case. We stayed in room 658 and it pretty much looked onto old ran down buildings and some donkeys! You could see the sea but had to break your neck to see it. We were under the impression we would be looking out onto it so I wouldn't recommend paying for a sea view upgrade. The pool view rooms had a better view than ours!! Another downfall was there was no options for beers or ciders. The only option for a beer was a can of peroni. No draught at all!!! My boyfriend just wanted a cold pint of beer and when staying at a '4' star hotel this really isn't too much to ask. The shuttle was handy but a bit of a hassle but that was no fault of our own. We understood we were quite high up and wanted this for our (room sea view) but didn't understand just how high up. The shuttle took about 15 minutes which was fine but a bit of a nightmare we couldn't just walk to a shop. We spent the day at Capri and a day at naples and getting home at 6 we wanted to go home and freshen up to go for a meal at night but it just wasnt worth the hassle of having to get the shuttle up and then having to wait another hour to get back down. The last shuttle was at half 11 which meant going home early as a taxi was not an option. We got a taxi home one night and were charged €44!! Total Rip off. The staff were all lovely and friendly. Except one rude woman at reception. I stood waiting at the bar and unfortunately there was no one else there. I understand she was on a phone call so I waited about 15 minutes and still she was on the call. I could tell this was not work related and was more of a blether she did nothing to assist me at all. The maids were very friendly, the rooms were cleaned every day and we were giving fresh towels! The pool area was great and the bar staff were very attentive and brought your drinks too you. I would reccomend this hotel for a quiet stay but if you are looking to get out and about conveniently then I would reccomend staying more in sorrento centre. There are plenty hotels with a great view and if there are any men that enjoy a cold pint on there holidays! Dont stay here.

The main reason I chose this hotel was because of the really good reviews on Trip Advisor although it was only rated 3(+) by Jet2 Holidays.
I will start with the positives. The views from this hotel are spectacular, it is situated in the hills above the town of Sorrento. The views over the Bay of Naples towards Mount Vesuvius are stunning as is the outlook of the rural area surrounding the hotel. All the staff in the hotel are excellent and work really hard. A special mention to the cleaners who keep the hotel spotless, the lady who cleaned our room did a very good job each day. The reception staff were always friendly and helpful as were the dining room staff. The shuttle bus was usually punctual and the drivers polite and efficient, if a little inconsistent with the rules regarding mask-wearing and stopping at the train station. Nice swimming pool, I went in a few times. It was a relief not to worry about reserving a sun lounger as there was always plenty of seating.
The hotel went wrong in ways which could so easily be remedied. On arrival we were very thirsty but there was no complimentary water on offer either in reception or in our room. We had to buy some rather expensive bottled water from the bar. No kettle in our room! Surely this is a basic requirement, we were looking forward to having tea and coffee on our balcony. We had no towel rail or toilet roll holder in our bathroom, towels had to be left on the floor or draped over the bidet. The toilet roll was rested on the bidet or placed on the floor. We like to use our towels for 2/3 days to lower our carbon footprint but we had no choice but to leave them on the floor where, of course, they remained damp. Finally, we were disappointed with the quality and choice of food on offer. Bread rolls at breakfast and dinner were very hard to bite into and chew, be wary if you have expensive dental work. Some of the sauces were tart and unpleasant, I actually enjoyed the starters and desserts more than the main course. Tables were laid inadequately, lack of items of cutlery, no condiments to hand, again, no complimentary water, no tea and coffee on offer after dessert.
In conclusion, I believe this hotel could do better with just a few adjustments. It is charming in many ways, even the neighbour’s braying donkey (not constantly) was amusing.

We had a good room 256 with large balcony and good view although we did overlook another balcony. Room was a good size being on the corner of the building and had everything we needed including drawers and wardrobe and fridge.
Breakfast very nice lovey bread rolls. Lots of cakes and sweet things. Also cheese ham etc and fresh fruit. Suited me fine. Evening meals were ok for me but food is more home style cooking rather than fine dining. We were half board so had set menu every night.
They do not do tap water and you have to buy bottled water at 3 euros a bottle 75cl. We just filled our water bottles from the tap and it was fine.
House white wine was dreadful and I recommend that they change this. Other than this the hotel was fine and suited us very well. We had a good sized room and balcony but we were aware others had smaller rooms and many balconies were quite small too. The courtesy bus was excellent for trips down into sorrento.

Stayed here for 7 nights from 28/9/20.
Coach transfer was 1 hour 20mins.
Hotel is set high up in the hills overlooking Sorrento.
Check in was simple enough although not too much information provided about your surroundings and nearby activities.
Reason being there is nothing nearby.
The views from the hotel are spectacular and are IMO it's most redeeming feature/aspect.
We stayed on the 3rd floor.
Our room had a side sea view and the views were outstanding, it also had a balcony, it was basic, the bed was comfortable and the shower/bath was good. Wi fi worked very well.
Tony in the restaurant was a gem, a really hard working guy who was always pleasant.
Overall the staff are very polite and professional.
I personally found the evening meals somewhat variable in quality, quantity and appearance. You also had to pay for any drinks that you wanted to accompany your meal, even water. Bad form I thought.
The swimming pool is small and does not get much sun in the afternoon, but the solarium does.
Breakfast was fine and on the face of it the best meal of the day. I truly enjoyed the coffee, omelettes or fried eggs with bacon on request as well as the cereals, cheeses, meats, toast, croissants, jam etc...
The shuttle bus was a lifeline and ran perfectly as per schedule.
Overall our holiday was good and 8f you are looking for an out of town hotel with views to die for, I recommend this hotel but only on a bed and breakfast basis.

Positive points: this hotel has some of the best views as it is quite high up away from Sorrento, (at least a 35 minute walk into town), clean, very quiet and tranquil with friendly staff. It has a swimming pool, but as with most Italian pools it isn’t heated and in October I wasn’t keen to use it as it’s too cold, which for me was disappointing. It has a regular shuttle bus service, every hour, except around lunchtime, for getting back and forth into Sorrento.
Negative points: our room was a little tired and in need of some TLC and upgrading. After a downpour of rain one morning, water flooded under the balcony doors into the room. Our room was sparse, dull and had nothing in the way of those little extras that we’ve come to except, like tea/coffee making facilities or even a kettle, and no tissues…had to use the toilet roll. Their room service charged and extra €5 and when I was I’ll one day, and had to stay in my room all day, I wanted some tea bought to me, this did not impress me at all.
Worst of all was the food. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced such bad food ever in any holiday hotel in my whole life. At Breakfast we had very little choice, and the evening meals, if you were on the half board basis, were just dreadful. If you were eating a La Carte it seemed you got a better standard all round, including the plates it was served up on. We felt like second class citizens sitting next to those who were eating a La Carte! We even had to make our choices at breakfast time, when you really didn’t need that at 7 o’ clock in the morning. The best thing about the restaurant was the waiter, Tony, who was a complete clown, and he made everyone laugh 😂…maybe he was put there to take our minds off the food…lol
Overall our experience was very average, beautiful views of Mount Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples, but I wouldn’t recommend it purely on the quality of the food alone.

Spotless hotel with amazing views, friendly staff and as said by others, Tony is so charming! Shuttle bus daily is a lifeline and this hotel is not for those with mobility issues. Pool and terraces are immaculate (would be great if the English lady would stop nattering incessantly and loudly from 8am to 6pm everyday at the quiet area!!)
Shuttle bus regular, however on return leg we were told, not asked to wear a mask. There are no rules anywhere that insist on this and we were charged by the driver for 2 masks. He also shouted at me as mine had slipped down. Now wear one if you wish, but don’t make anyone else (particularly as they don’t work). Driver was called pasquale and glad I only encountered there him once! He was rude, ignorant and on a power trip.

Sheffield, United Kingdom170 contributions187 helpful votesCan anybody give us ome information as to the price of drinks at this hotel. We were going to book at the Aminta Hotel but were warned off that the drink prices were a complete rip off. We are wine drinkers.
Prices not bad glass prosecco €8. House wine €16 for bottle cocktails about €9. On the whole very happy with prices and service
Not s problem. People were leaving luggage in the large lounge area by reception.
:You'd have to buy it in Sorrento - but don't forget the water in Italy is safe to drink. So just fill your own bottle in the hotel.
