I spent 9 days at the Grand Hotel Riviera on my honeymoon and LOVED it! The hotel exudes luxury, class and elegance. The hotel is absolutely beautiful with a gorgeous marble foyer, and stunning views from the restaurant, bar and balcony over the ocean and with Mount Vesuvius in the background. I stayed in a front sea view room and loved watching the sunset from our balcony. The room was large, well decorated and gave a very luxurious feeling. It was a nice quiet room and romantic atmosphere.

The "private beach" was what made the Riviera a COMPLETE stand out! Wow, just wow! There is an elevator leading down to a large promenade, where you could soak up the sun, have drinks and snacks served to you, and take a dip in the ocean. Not all hotels in Sorrento have beach access and it is definitely worth staying at the Riviera if you love swimming! I didn't even need to try the large pool because the beach was so, so good! Even in the first week of October, the weather was perfectly warm and great for swimming.

The included buffet breakfast was a complete treat. There was a huge selection of food and drinks to choose from including sparkling wine, and a chef cooking eggs to order. The coffee was great and the staff were very attentive to ensure all the breakfast tables had fresh linen after every use. The staff were dressed in suits and were very professional and friendly. We only ate in the restaurant one night but it was delicious! The bar has a great cocktail selection. There was no better place to drink a margarita and watch the sunset over Mount Vesuvius.

The concierge were really helpful and all staff spoke excellent English. They assisted us in booking a private olive oil tasting nearby and helped us liase with our other pre-booked tours and transfers.

The location of the Riviera itself is great. It is only about a 10-15 minute walk into the heart of Sorrento. There are so many great restaurants within a 5 minute walk of the hotel. You really do feel like you are right in the middle of the town, without any neighbourhood noise.

I will definitely stay at the Riviera again if I ever am lucky enough to return to Sorrento. It was a beautiful place and made for my dream honeymoon.

We spent two wonderful nights in this beautiful hotel on the Amalfi Coast.
It was exactly what we had dreamt and we really enjoyed our staying.
The breakfast is really good and offer a big variety. We were so impressed in how they managed to deal with the "pandemic situation" and still offer a really good breakfast following all the rules and precautions.
The view is breathtaking facing the Vesuvio Vulcan.
The access to the sea is top! And the sea itself it's wonderful.
The staff is really polite and available to help. We really appreciated the kindness of the receptionists as now a days is unfortunately not so common.
We had stayed in a standard room and the beds are very comfy and we really appreciated the room cleaning, comfort and its balcony.

Thanks Grand Hotel Riviera, we felt completely recharged after our staying in your paradise.
We will definitely come back!

Two little tips which we think will make Grand Hotel Riviera even better:

1) The coffee and the cappuccino should be upgraded, especially because we are in Napoli!

2) You should tell the guests in advance that the fresh pressed orange juice is not included in the breakfast fee.

Thank you again so much and see you soon!

We have just had a great week at this hotel and would highly recommend. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We were staying half board and were able to change our evening meal to lunch time which really suited us when we didn’t want to leave the beach and wanted to be in town of an evening. The food choice for us as vegetarians was very good and we felt very catered for. The service in the restaurant was also very good. Breakfast is being delivered differently due to COVID but personally I found that the safest, most hygienic approach and I never waited long. Choice was great for is and anyone who loves pastries, fresh fruit and omelettes to order would be very happy.

The rooms are very clean, ours was moderate in size but what we paid for and we liked it.

Location is great as only a short and pleasant walk to town.

Best bit of all is the beach deck. We didn’t use the pool once which is unusual for us but the sea is so lovely and the views are great.

Would return and would recommend.

Spent a night there in late October. The hotel location is the main draw, a bit out of the center, quiet with sea views. The common rooms are all well maintained as is the terrace but the rooms are small and very basic. They are definitely not of a 4 star quality nor do they justify the price of 250 euros a night. Definitely overpriced. Staff is nice. The food was absolutely terrible and expensive. Cannot recommend.

This is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful cliff top location with fabulous views. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk into the centre of Sorrento. The public areas are all spotless and oozes style without being stuffy. Buffet breakfast was superb, one of the best I’ve ever experienced. Staff were polite and friendly and all spoke excellent English.

The only niggle I had was the view (or lack of) from our room. We had booked a standard twin balcony room and our tour operator described it as having a garden view, what we actually had was a view of a wall covered in vines and some tatty nesting screening the neighbouring property. In fairness to the hotel they don’t make any mention of garden views for these rooms on their website. We did enquire about moving rooms but the only available room in our price bracket was rothe room immediately above ours which wouldn’t have improved our outlook at all.

So the positives - the room had a great view + the staff at the private beach (another positive is the private beach) were fantastic. Breakfast was good also and the omelette station was excellent.

However, the negatives. When checking out it took 15 minutes longer than needed as it seemed staff were more interested in having breakfast than us making our ferry.

The bed....well, you might as well sleep on the stone floor.

Ants outside (can't do much about that really) but a few got in and overall cleanliness was just lacking.

The shower was in a corner bath which, although nice (if you minus the mould), needed a step ladder to get into and 5'10".

Finally, you can hear every door slamming in the whole building and, if you want to pay for the Deluxe Sea Room, know that the breakfast bar is above and you WILL hear each time a chair is moved in the morning. So don't expect sleep.

The whole place needs a revamp.

But the view is nice and location is good.

We spent 2 weeks here in September 2020. The location is fantastic, with the terraces and restaurant overlooking the Bay of Naples. It is walking distance to the centre of Sorrento. The hotel was amazing, well-appointed although there weren't many guests there during our stay (read - the current difficult world situation).
There is a lovely pool and a bathing platform with a view of Vesuvius.
Food was excellent, staff attentive and helpful - special thanks to Giovanni and Luigi and their teams and Angela and the team at the reception. They were professional, friendly and made our stay even more pleasant.
Everything was spotlessly clean and tidy, I loved the paintings scattered around the hotel and enjoyed admiring them!
The sea water was crystal clear and there's a protected swimming area.
Sorrento was an interesting town, with lots of boutique shops and places to eat and is very picturesque. We got some bargains (Italian leather is very good value for money and high quality). Trips to the historic sites, Capri and Positano are easy by ferry/train.
I would very happily return! Many thanks!

Ignore the recent unbelievable and uncalled for comments about this hotel!!!!

Beautiful place and entrance and very warm and informative welcome by the Reception staff. They even offered to send someone to help us upstairs with our bags. Immaculately clean, quiet (and cool!) room and staff always on hand to help with anything and are extremely attentive to make your stay as best as possible. The young lady in Reception (forgot her name - sorry!) was particularly helpful when we were trying to book an excursion and went out of her way to ring around companies to sort something out for us whilst we went out for the day.

Breakfast was fantastic- plenty to choose from, fresh food and even some local produce to sample.
Was amazing to start your day overlooking the beautiful Gulf of Naples.

Pool and beach areas were fantastic too, very well kept , clean and towels are provided. Although the hotel was at capacity, there was always a sun bed space to choose from. Lovely service also, with a range of drinks and snacks provided straight to your sun bed if you wish. Our favourite area was using the steps aside of the beach area to swim in the sea.

Only thing to mention is that the drinks are very expensive in the bar areas but enjoying your drink watching the sunset on the cliff top does make up for this!

Walk into town is a short, flat 10 minute walk straight into central sorrento. We visited Pompeii and Amalfi too which I highly suggest visiting also!

Overall, a highly recommended hotel. We WILL be returning!

Thank you for a wonderful stay!

We originally planned to stay for 5 nights but came back from Ravello to stay for an additional 4 nights. We loved our rooms (130 resp.403), although the bath rooms and particularly the bath/shower space are very limited. But in both cases the terraces where gorgeous. We ordered room service most of the time in order to enjoy the sundown in the bay of Naples. We loved the location, the (artifical) beach and the pool. The reception staff were very kind and helpful but the staff at breakfast (typically Italian and consequently relatively limited) are seriously disorganized. However, we enjoyed observing their comedia del arte. The hotel radiates an atmosphere of typically Italian well being and if we would be in the neighborhood in the future we would definitely choose Hotel Riviera again.

I am posting this late as I was reading reviews and realized I did not post mine. The views from our room was amazing . Seeing the gulf with Mount Vesuvius is worth the price of the room. The rooms made be small and so is the bathroom but is is very able to meet your needs. You will not spend much time in your room unless you are on the balcony or in other parts of the hotel. Yes food is pricey but then again you are not at a fast food restaurant. It was very good. Location is great and walking distance to the main part of Salerno. Looking forward to a return visit.

Sorry for the delay, haven't been on the site in a while. It is a great hotel, and the staff is incredible. Had a very serious problem (not with the hotel) but transportation and the front desk did an amazing job getting us rectified on our way home. Our room was on the side of the hotel, but we were able to step on the balcony and see the water. Spectacular views at nighttime. Absolutely would stay here again.
