Casa del Monacone is much more than a B&B: converted from the convent adjoining the Basilica di Santa Maria della Sanità, it has become an accommodation project, run by the La Paranza cooperative. Six ensuite rooms , a large terrace and a communal lounge, welcoming environments that retain an ancient warmth. Casa del Monacone is located in the main square in the Sanità neighbourhood, just minutes from the the historic centre of Naples and a stone's throw away from the many cultural and artistic attractions that the area has to offer.

Such a fantastic little find. This is a lovely community-led business that is run by a team who has the neighborhood’s interest at heart. The manager and company went out of their way to make sure we found the place ok and were settled in, despite coming in many hours late due to a delayed flight. I challenge you to find a B&B who cares quite as much in the more popular tourist district! Rione Sanita is the perfect location to base yourself. You can easily visit the catacombs, Archeological museum, and the lovely Capodimonte park at the top of the hill. The few times we wondered into the tourist district, we were always ready to return home to Rione Sanita. Naples is such a wonderful city, just take our word and stay in this cozy district. Breakfast was tasty, showers are small, but hot with good pressure, and AC works great. Overall all a very comfortable stay. Good luck to the team and thank you for taking great care of us.

Attracted by previous reviews, I stayed in the Casa Monacone hoping for a more personal - and affordable - experience, different from the anonymous tourism industry, and I certainly found it here. People at the B&B are very welcoming and friendly, and so are the people outside in the Sanitá neighbourhood. It's a very lively part of the city, very genuine with few other tourists, but nevertheless perfectly safe to wander around even late at night, with the streets still filled with people of all ages. The special character of the accommodation has already been described in much detail, may I just add that the modern windows block the sound as well as the heat, which is essential at night - 'lively' in Naples does involve lots of sounds, and the motorbikes won't stop circling before the small hours. But with closed windows (and air conditioning on if needed) it's perfectly peaceful inside. And once you are there, don't forget to check out the adjacent church (Basilica di Santa Maria della Sanitá), even if you might be saturated by all the churches in Naples - it's much simpler than most, but in my opinion all the more beautiful for it.

Casa del Monacone represents the real heart of Napoli. This lovely B & B was created out of the second floor of a former convent in the historic working class neighborhood of La Sanita’ . It was built and is staffed by the same young people of the neighborhood who restored the fabulous San Gennaro catacombs and conduct tours there in many languages. The B & B has all the modern conveniences, charming air conditioned rooms with giant art photos, comfy beds, beautiful tiled floors and modern baths. You can mingle in the latte breakfast room with open kitchen or on the outdoor patio. Take the elevator down and you are in the magnificent church of S Maria della Sanita’ and across the busy street is a Piazza where you can enjoy a meal at Pizzeria Oliva and watch the bustling street scene. This is the real Napoli, these young people love it and you will too.

beautiful conversion of a former convent, this a friendly B&B on the top a wonderful church in one of the most authentic area of central Naples. It is run by a cooperative that is respectful of the historic patrimony and employing young local people. Conveniently located, it is very close to most attractions. We spent an excellent week there and we'll recommend to anyone interested in seeing not only the most touristy side of Naples.

We had long wanted to visit Napoli and we searched the web for a B&B without any prior clue. We found the story of Casa Del Monacone very particular and we booked there. This turned out to be an incredible experience in the true heart of Napoli. Indeed, Rione Sanità is a popular neighbourhood with many sincere and touching stories. Giuseppe, along with the members of the association, have done a wonderful job renovating a convent and creating a very nice B&B. The rooms are comfortable and clean. Breakfast is very good. People are very nice and we received the best tips for visits and food. The location is very convenient, close to historical sites, great pizza restaurants, market and typical bars. The youth of the association play an important role against social exclusion and they have renovated the catacombs and other parts of the neighbourhood. This was a perfect way to discover Napoli for the first time. We highly recommend this experience.

Casa del Monacone is a small hotel/B'n'B in the Sanita working class neighborhood of Naples. The area is vibrant, crazy and lots of fun for watching the social life of Naples. The hotel was clean; the staff were friendly and helpful. This hotel has a social mission--one easy to support.

The quarter is very busy with lots of traffic, but the hotel which is part of a church is recreative quiet. Because of being part of a church the rooms are also very cool, which is probably a relief in summer but was not necessary in March. Luckily the heating was reliable. Best of our stay was the staff and their tips including where to find the best pizza. Pizzas in Naples are the best!

Staying at il Monacone - we were a large family group, in Naples for a reunion - was a wonderful experience. Run by a cooperative of young people who have found a creative way to earn a decent living, il Monacone is much more than a B&B, it is an immersion in the Sanita area of Naples, historically impoverished since the building of a bridge in the early 19th century, and now reemerging through the efforts of bright and energetic young people like the staff of this amazing place. Il Monacone is situated beside this bridge in an annexe of the historic church of Santa Maria della Sanita' and the cooperative runs tours both in the church, its catacombs and those of the famous church of San Gennaro, patron saint of the city of Naples. The accomodation is comfortable and 'simpatico', decorated with the arts and crafts of young local artisans. Breakfast is delicious and nearby in the area are plenty of characteristic pizzerie, trattorie and a now-famous pasticceria (bakery) which amongst other things sells the most heavenly cream buns in the world...called 'fiocchi di neve' or snowflakes. Many interesting and famous sites, galleries and museums are only a walk away and the B&B as well as the entire area of the Sanita' affords a genuine Neapolitan experience.
