Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A superb hotel, at the end of Via Veneto. The historic center of Rome is within walking distance, but you will have to hike (the hotel is also on a hill). However, the location is very good, in a quiet neighborhood, close to the Borghese gardens. There are many restaurants and other hotels around. There is also a very convenient car park (under the Borghese Gardens) 5 minutes away. I'm Bonvoy Titanium, I had a reservation for two rooms. One became an apartment with the help of SNA, and the other was also upgraded. The room was large, with comfortable beds and a large bathroom. I think the room itself and the apartment were renovated recently, but the bathroom was older. The service was excellent, they gave us two connecting rooms - not something that has happened to us in a very long time in the Marriott system. We also had breakfast, it was a buffet and quite varied. I highly recommend the hotel.

Our stay at Westin Excelsior was absolutely wonderful! As Marriott Titanium members we were graciously upgraded to a junior suite which was very lovely. Little did we know how extra special that would be as my husband tripped and fell on our first day in Rome! Having the extra space was great as he needed some extra down time. The entire staff went above and beyond in offering help and with personal kindnesses throughout our stay. We wouldn't consider staying anywhere else when we return.

This is a lovely, old world property and nicely situated for getting around Rome. The public spaces are large and accommodating, and our room was spacious and comfortable. Bedding was excellent. The staff was very pleasant. Our only disappointment was having no walk-in shower in our bathroom and, instead, having to climb over a large tub -- not the safest situation. We do know that there are rooms with walk-in showers.

As a Captain (retired) for the worlds largest airline, I have had my share of hotels worldwide over a 38-year career. Therefore, I feel well qualified to make a fair and honest review. Just returned home from Rome. The Westin Excelsior made our stay there an unforgettable experience! Wanting to share Rome with our daughter for her 15th birthday, the hotel played a big part in that. Having visited the major sites each day, we returned to the hotel exhausted. The comfort of our room was a "home away from home". The room, a twin with a rollaway, was large, airconditioned, beautiful bath with tub AND shower. We never heard any noise from other rooms or staff activity in the hall. The beds were extremely comfortable with very fine bedding. The buffet breakfast is outstanding with everything needed to get your busy stay started. The food is excellent! There is a beautiful bar with a piano player or guitar player each evening. The pool was welcome after a long day and is clean and well maintained. The hotel is located in a quiet area away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist attractions...yet within walking distance to the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. We took a taxi to the Vatican/St. Peters Basilica and the Colosseum. The taxi stand is immediately outside the hotel and a cab always available. In summary, go no further when seeking accommodations in Rome! You will not be disappointed!

We spent 6 lovely nights at this hotel in March 2024, and were extremely pleased with the experience. We had connecting rooms (king to double) for parents and kids, which was extremely convenient. The rooms were spacious - almost twice as big as rooms we had a hotel in Paris at a similar price point - and well appointed. The bathrooms were very large, and the showers had excellent water pressure. The housekeeping services were thorough. The hotel provided complimentary bottles of water in our room each day, and turndown service adapted to our timing. The hotel is located very near the Borghese gardens, and in easy walking distance from Trevi fountain and points near. It was a convenient launching point for us for most of our activities in the city and beyond. Our children enjoyed the hotel pool a couple times, and the spa facilities were as expected. I wish there were soap etc in the pool shower, but that is a minor complaint. We also ate at the restaurant - we had the breakfast buffet almost every morning. It is a well varied buffet with all the things you might expect, and more. We also had dinner in the restaurant our first night, and while it was not the most extensive or sophisticated menu we saw during our trip to Rome, it was certainly sufficient! We also had room service once, and while the menu was slightly limited (and, as is always the case, aggressively priced) it arrived quickly. All in all, I highly recommend the Excelsior!

Stayed 4 days on a holiday in Rome... For the amount paid (Euro 450 per night); we got a room without air-conditioning. Two small windows which are sealed and cannot be opened; so essentially a box with central heating and stuffy! It was a very disappointing stay and we almost decided to check-out on the first night itself! On the second night we complained & were given a floor standing noisy fan, which was not much use since it only circulated the air already within the room (remember the small windows can be opened just 2 to 3 inches) ! No natural daylight possible due to the promixity to the opposite rooms windows! (maybe other rooms are better?) We should've booked at another hotel, at least we'd have got some natural light and at night it was cool enough outside to sleep with the windows open if required! Am not staying here again!

Dear Mr. Sudeep, Thank you for your review; I regret we disappointed you. I apologize for the inconveniences with the air conditioning and the opening of the windows. The windows cannot open more than 10 cms for security reasons. This is an Westin international standard but in case the room the room is not occupied with children by signing a release we can remove the latch and should have mentioned it to you and regret we did no. Your room was a courtyard view on the 4th floor and we only have 6 floors as well as street views I still hope you will give us another opportunity to serve you better. Marc Lannoy General Manager

The hotel has a great potential but it is in desperate need for a major renovation. I was on the second floor and I was literally walking on broken tiles covered by a carpet. My room was spacious but very old - the bathroom especially seemed 40 years old - and not in line with a 5* standard. Restaurant and breakfast instead were good, although the restaurant in my view lacks atmosphere. When I have raised it with the staff at the check out, I was told that they are aware… which says it all

That was one of the best stays we've ever had. Spotless property, well maintained. Exceptional staff, polite, courteous and professional, kudos to the front desk team, concierge, breakfast team, room service and chamber maid (nice chocolates with the turndown service). The room was great, lots of space and light, large balcony with the nice view. Bed was very comfortable, We really enjoyed breakfast, lots of healthy options, high quality. The omelet station was great, freshly made, truly delicious. Great location, close to everything. We walked all the way to the Colosseum, Spanish Steps, Trevi fountain, Piazza Navona, Gallery Borghese, Vatican... all within reach. Ah, almost forgot, walk two blocks up and cross the street for the bit of Dolce Vita at the Harry's Bar... and make your best Marcello impression... We really appreciated hospitality, we'll stay again on our next trip to Rome.
