Be prepared -- you will be nickel and dimed throughout your entire stay at the Gran Melia. It was a true pain trying to dissect our charges and understand the fees they were imposing on us during our stay. The service is not 5 star quality, closer to a 3 aspiring to be a 4. I am still wondering why...

We had such a lovely stay in this hotel. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are immaculate with everything you could expect from a luxury hotel. The staff were warm and welcoming and always happy to assist. Would definitely stay here again - a true 5 star hotel.

This former Villa is in a great location- very close to the Vatican. But it is very quiet and peaceful, with a large property, gardens, and a pool- in the middle of Rome! There is a wonderful breakfast buffet, with fresh juices, fruits, eggs, meats, pastries, cereals, etc. The entire hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. The Concierge Roberta...

Stayed there with the family for a few days last summer. The hotel is absolutely fantastic and can be highly recommended if you for some reason do not need to stay directly downtown. Open and spacious, very very nice breakfast and excellent services throughout our stay.

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
