I am used to staying in 3-, 4-, or 5-star hotels, BUT while in Rome I decided to accept an invitation from a hostel: The Beehive. I think there’s a bad misconception that hostels are only for travelers that care more about price than amenities or ambiance, but ‘hostel’ doesn’t have to be synonymous with budget accommodation, shared bathrooms, or...

The bed is comfortable. The shower has hot water. It fairly quiet. It's not a hotel room you stay in all afternoon. You get your rest in preparation for a day of sight-seeing and you go. There is a communal kitchen with all the necessary housewares you would expect to find in any kitchen. One really nice perk was that...

I honestly cannot fault this place at all! I stayed here in June on my own, taking a different route to France than my other friends, and was welcomed by Steve, who offered a much needed cup of tea! I was then given a very helpful map marked with the ho(s)tel's current location ( about a minute walk from Termini)....

My partner and I wanted a place close to public transportation. The train station's nearby, so check. We wanted to stay somewhere that didn't break the bank. Again, check. When we booked our room (we stayed a week), we were hoping The Beehive would not only make us feel welcome, but also would serve as a place of rest and...

I decided to stay at the Beehive after looking at all the reviews, and the Beehive website. I made the right choice. It was extremely convenient because it was only a 5-minute walk from the train station. I arrived in the morning after a long flight from the USA, and they were happy to store my luggage until check-in time....

we were staying in Rome for two days prior to exploring other parts of Italy and the Beehive was perfect for our needs. They helped to arrange a taxi from the airport directly to the beehive which helped save some hassle fro us. We stayed in The Sweets and the room was clean, cute and with a nice balcony to...

great location, staff and morning coffee and breakfast offered too. Their suggestions for meals close by were all great. It is located very close to the train station. We walked everywhere but transit is available.

I stayed at the Beehive in a single room with a private bathroom for three nights and it was wonderful. The room was very clean and comfortable. The hotel has great common space (indoors and out) and the little cafe is perfect for a delicious, affordable breakfast. I thought the location was very convenient too - just a five minute...

My ten year old daughter and I have just come home from a three night stay here and we both loved it. We stayed in a clean, large bright and sunny room with our own bathroom right across the hall in The Sweets. The location, two blocks from Termini, was so convenient. The hostel atmosphere in a hotel-standard establishment was...

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Beehive is a cool, stylish, eco-friendly budget hostel/hotel owned by an American couple, Linda & Steve, who came to Rome to follow a dream. In 1999 we packed up our apartment in Los Angeles and, along with our 2 cats moved to Rome and opened The Beehive, a unique cross between a budget hotel and an upscale hostel - a place where you can feel at home. Everything about The Beehive reflects our own personal values and we genuinely want to be helpful and hospitable. We love to share the kind of information that helps you get the most out of your travels. Over the years The Beehive has evolved along with us and our many repeat guests. With our amazing onsite staff and manager, all of our guests receive our dedication and effort to helping you get the best out of your holiday. As always, we want you to know you have a safe haven and friends in Rome. ... more   less
