I spent a very unpleasant night at this hotel. The staff didn't speak English nor Italian, only Chinese, so communication was almost impossible. They have 2 floors in a building located at a very shady street. We arrived at night and were scared to walk around. The beds were very uncomfortable, we had to share the bathroom with people in... I booked this place because of location, little did I know that I was shooting myself in the foot ...aaaah where do I start 1. It's in a dangerous street, do not book if you are a solo traveller 2. It's difficult to find as it is in an apartment in a block of flats that is taken over by... More

The people there are extremely polite and kind. The place is very close to the metro station and many historical places and nobody ever harmed us. We had an amazing time, they asked us what time we want to have our breakfast and brought it in our room by knocking the door and we opened to take the disk (they... More

Very close to the city center. The place itself seemed clean whereas the outside of the place made us feel quite uncomfortable. When we first arrived the hostel, the first thing we noticed that the neighborhood was unsafe. Transportation was not an issue as the train station was near our hostel. The staff was very helpful and the breakfast was... More

MINUS: We spent 7 nights in Hostel Vittoria. General impression about this place is rather bad. Hostel is located in a poor neighborhood inhabited by immigrants from Africa and China. The main entrance is situated on the ugliest street I've ever seen in Rome (https://goo.gl/MCc42p). The district looks really dangerous however during the whole week we did not have any... More

The hostel is located very close to the train and metro stations. It was clean and the rooms were spacious but basic. The bathroom was small, but fine and clean. The wifi was good. The building is very old and hard to find. The elevator is very old and small. But the worst is the location of the hostel. The... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
