We stayed in the Hotel San Marco for five nights and was about a 9-minute walk from the Rome Termini Train Station. I admit the walk to the hotel was a little disconcerting as it did not seem to be in a very nice area, though we were never really accosted. We found the hotel staff rather rude and disrespectful....

While the room and bathroom was neat big and spacious. There was no water in the room or tea /coffee making facilities. You can apparently hire a kettle for €30 euros. They have a bar down stairs. We were told tea and coffee was €1.50 each. One small bottle of water they charged us €4.50. Breakfast was included with our...

The hotel rooms are very warm, and pretty basic, with no tea/coffee facities. The location is handy for the railway station, and there are some excellent pizzerias etc. nearby. The lift is an ancient, slow 2 person job.

This was my third stay at the Hotel San Marco. The positives: Friendly staff that spoke English, The best breakfast buffet in Rome and the young man directing the breakfast room was friendly and efficient. Close to a metro stop--and close to Termini, very close to many great Restaurants. I had no issues with hot water in my room and...

Extremely welcoming staff, large clean rooms, pleasant lounge areas and bar. Generous breakfast though could do with more fruit. Lift slow and only takes 2-3 people. Nevertheless I would stay here next time and would recommend it highly. Less than10 mins walk to the station, tour buses etc.

Stayed in this hotel twice while visiting Rome. Very central. Walking distance to train station. Beautiful breakfast included - handsome waiter a bonus;) Breakfast buffet included sweet (a.g nutella infused waffles) savoury options. Hotel room was very clean and comfortable. Good value for money.

After 6 hours of travel and arriving to Rome at midnight, we finally made it to this hotel where we were met by a concierge who seemed less than interested in helping us. It seems they overbooked and placed us in their 'sister' hotel, Hotel Siracusa, across from the metro station; assuring us it was of same quality. It wasn't....

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
