Hotel's Favourite
The warmth of the reception by Alberto was our first impression of this perfectly located hotel directly opposite an ancient ruin! It is discreetly located through an iron gate after two small flights of steps inside a larger block above a super cafe / pizzeria . Fear not , the property is double glazed with air con - as soon as the windows shut , the hustle and bustle of busy Rome disappears and you can relax in your quirky boutique style bedroom , enjoy a foot spa, foot massage and the contents of a well stocked fridge ( daily) . I would bring some proper cutlery - Rome is big on disposables!
You are perfectly situated for all the main attractions, St Peter’s is a taxi trip in the tropical heat - I imagine it’s comfortably walkable in the winter months . In three full days we managed to see, in order; the pantheon , behind it ( and more stunning IMHO) the church of Santa Maria and the Martyrs , Trevi ( evening) Piazza Navona - (yes the berninis are scaffolded but it’s still wonderful) Vatican Museums ( use their official site to book)Museum Capitoline ( overlooked - AMAZING museums) - you can view The Forum from the terrace here and lunch in their rooftop - it’s excellent. Colosseum- we walked around it and saw so much more history on the less busy side - circus massimus etc - it’s always rammed so prepare with trainers and water ! We prebooked (via opera guide.com )The three Tenors at St Paul’s in the walls church - magic!- The best advice we were given by the wonderful Annette( day time reception) was to head to St.Peters at 7.30 am if not part of a planned tour group ( our idea of pain) we got there for 8 am and queued only for 15 mins before we were inside - when we came out many hours later , the square had a queue running the whole length down so it’s REALLY worth an earlier rise …our final evening (having tried Campo de fiori and Via Nazionale) for dining was spent in Trastevere - lively , buzzing , full of trattorias - by far our favourite eatery - there was live music on the connecting bridge which added to the party vibe of this area in Rome . The restaurant just below the hotel is also worth a try - super friendly!Try Chiostro del Bramante for something different- the modern art exhibition and quirky cafe was refreshing after the full biblical narrative immersion - wandering off the beaten paths allows you to discover less travelled monuments and basilicas which are quieter and more contemplative - there is time to reset and breathe in Rome if you take time to wander ….. Thankyou Annette & Alberto - you completed our fantastic experience in Rome

We stayed here for a long weekend for my partners birthday. The hotel is very well located many of the top attractions are within walking distance of the hotel. It is a short bus ride (10/15 mins) from the main train station that connects directly the airport which is about 40 mins away.
The entrance took a little finding, you go through two large wooden doors (use the buzzer on the right hand side if the doors are shut) into what looks like an apartment block and before you get to the courtyard there are metal gates on your left with stairs up to the hotel entrance.
The hotel reception is not a typical, hotel reception. The decor inside is very original and imposing at times but very interesting and unique! The staff are very helpful and accommodating and explained everything in the room thoroughly and there’s a lot to take in! Our room had a double and a separate single bed as well as a microwave, coffee machine, fridge, toaster, massage chair, foot spa etc! Breakfast is DIY in the room and there is plenty of choice from the well stock fridge, which is replenished daily. There’s drinks, both alcoholic and soft included and various other snacks. In addition pizza is available early evening in reception.
The gentleman on reception (sorry I can’t remember your name) was very helpful and provided us with a couple of maps together with a list of self guided walks around the major and some of the lesser known sites, together with a lists of of “non-touristy” restaurants, but was in no way pushy to-get us to visit any of these.
In summary Would I stay here again? Absolutely it’s a very unique hotel which has its own charm and character, it most certainly doesn’t resemble any of the chain hotels that you stay in, but it’s clean, well located and very friendly. The only negative would be the number of stairs that need to be negotiated, which wasn’t a problem for us but anyone with walking difficulties may struggle.

My daughter and I purposely chose this hotel in Rome for its quirky style and great reviews, and we were not disappointed. The location couldn't be better with lots of buses going to all the major sights just outside the door. Yes, there are stairs going up to the hotel, but we didn't have to lift a finger getting our four (heavy!) suitcases up to our room. As others have mentioned, the room is packed with all kinds of snacks and beverages, all included in the room rate. The staff was extremely friendly and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. There was many wonderful restaurants within walking distance, and we felt totally safe walking at night as the Argentina hub is always busy. Thank you, Hotel Barrett for making our Rome visit so memorable.

We have just returned from staying 5 nights at Hotel Barrett in Rome, and can absolutely recommed this lovely little hotel as a place to stay. Right from when I made the booking they could not have been more friendly & helpful, also checking in with me by email a couple of days before our booking to get an approximate arrival time.
We were booked into room 8, which diectly overlooks the Area Sacra on Torre Argentina. The room is fairly small, but very comfortable and has absolutely everything that you need. We slept amazingly well throughout our stay.
Breakfast & coffees (Lavazza machine) are all in the room, with an unbelievable well stock fridge, that is topped up daily. The flexibilty of this worked really well for us and meant that you could make yourself a perfect coffee whenever suits. The is a generous supply of soaps, shampoos & shower gels and every type of vanity kit that you can think of and used towels are replaced daily. There was also a bottle of wine, fresh fruit and biscuits in the room upon arrival. Also, it must be mentioned that there is a Homedics Siatsu back massager and Foot massager (and a Foot Spa for tired feet) in the room. I made good use of both the massagers and they certainly made a difference after days doing a lot of walking.
Having said that, the hotel is superbly positioned for travelling in all directions throughout Rome, with buses and trams stopping just outside. It is also just a short walk to Trastavere from the hotel. This was our first trip back to Rome in over 4 years, so we had a lovely mix of revisiting old favourites and heding out in new directions and the location was perfect for this. If you are ever wanting an evening with zero travel, there are plenty of excellent places literally on the doorstep.
Above all of this, however, was the friendliness of everybody at the hotel. There is a buzzer system if the gates / doors are closed (which is usually only later in the evenings) and this worked perfectly well and gave no level of inconvenience at all. We were always greeted with a smile and friendly chat.
I hope that I have done justice to the hospitality and the lovely stay that we have just returned from. We absolutely hope to return.

Very eccentric hotel which kinda freaked out my husband with all the artwork lol. I didnt show him the hotel when i booked.
I on the other hand didnt mind all the artwork …i chose because of the amazing reviews i read in TA
Best feature: location…
2 small
Blocks away from pantheon
10 min walk to piazza navona
30 min walk to vatican
30 min walk to coloseum.
You simply can not beat the location
Room was very clean…i am a germ freak and i wipe everything down with clorox the moment we arrive, my wipes stayed white after i cleaned.
Our room
Was very quiet and dark with
The shutters so our my 7 days in italy, i was only able to sleep in this hotel.
Room is supplied with coffee and all sort of snacks
If you have trouble with the stairs, this place is ot for you.
Other than that, this place is perfect and id stay here over and over again

+1
Hotel Pension Barrett exceeded our expectations, at the best quality-price ratio. I appreciated the cleanliness of the room an bathroom, the welcoming hosts, unexpectedly diverse breakfast (prepared in the room, daily, you can serve everything you want throughout the day). Excellent location, close to any tourist attraction. We managed to visit all the points of interest in our 4 days stay. An intimate place, equipped with everything you need. A plus was the massage chair and the sole massager, after a day of walking. The hosts surprised us on departure with a farewell gift. I am sure that on our next visit to Rome we will also stay here. THANK YOU!

Very hospitable staff and atmosphere. They helped us to leave late and we even received a gift (smiley) The rooms are not big, but they are full of surprising extras. Massage shower and foot massage bath, Adjustable Massage Chair, foot massager (for which your feet will bless you after miles of walking around Rome). The room has a huge amount of food, drinks and good coffee. The air conditioning works very well, which is a big plus when the weather is hot and you need a cool afternoon nap. The view is great - look at the ancient Roman temples, the place of Caesar's death and the modern cat colony;)). The hosts provide you with comprehensive information and recommend you where to eat like the Romans and not like ordinary tourists. The obligatory gelateria and pizza on a tray are a stone's throw away. The place is very central and I recommend taking a taxi from the airport - you will save transfers and time for only a few euros more. All attractions are nearby - the Colosseum, the Vatican, Trastevere, the fountains and the Pantheon. The only drawback is that there is no elevator, but 3 floors are not a big problem (smiley) I highly recommend!

Location of the hotel was great, we walked everywhere from here! The hotel itself is up on the 2nd floor of a building, no lift, but the stairs were'nt too taxing. We had a very warm welcome when we arrived, and left our bags because we were too early for check in. The rooms were very ornate and different, and the breakfast was in the room, which included a fridge full of food, everything from croisants, cereal, yogurts, meats, cheeses, water, juice, even a bottle of prosecco, and all included in the room price. To be honest if you were on a budget, you could eat the fridge food daily and not spend on food, there was so much there. Rooms were clean and comfortable, with the massage chair and foot massage very welcome at the end of a long day's sight seeing. I would gladly stay here again, thank you for the welcome, and making our stay very comfortable.

This place is in a great central location and we were able to walk to most of Rome’s famous attractions.
The room itself was quirky, with a fridge that was well stocked with snacks, and had an assortment of breakfast items (all free!)
We stayed at this hotel/pensioner a few years ago and didn’t even bother to research other places to stay this time.
The staff has a list of restaurant recommendations as well as suggested walking tours mapped out.
Would definitely recommend!

Me and my family stayed at the hotel Barrett April
This year, and we loved our stay! The location was ideal for all the tourist sites, and the staff were wonderful. Couldn’t do enough to help us, giving us guides and maps to help us around the city, and even giving us a bottle of prosecco for each room on our arrival!
The fridges in the rooms were stocked with everything and anything you could want, and re stocked every day we were there. And the breakfast options were excellent, plenty of pastries and cereal options.
I would definitely stay there again, highly recommend if you’re in Rome for a city break!

What are you asking for? The hotel's email?
Hi! So the hotel is based within an apartment block as such, you buzz into the main entrance then up some stairs to the main hotel door. In the evening the main gate outside (on the street) is closed so you have to buzz in there too. Very safe and secure and in the perfect location.
Absolutely... the staff were more than happy to help you with your luggage. They took mine from the street level to my room and back again.
WE could not check in before 11.30am and I believe the last check in was about 5pm. Email them to confirm.
