Pros - hotel is clean, bright, quirky, near the Vatican City and has some great places to eat within walking distance! I'll be reviewing these separately. Reception staff lovely and helpful. Fair price for a well located hotel room.

Cons - issues with lighting in room #1 and then in our second room the TV didn't work (but we don't really come on holiday for the TV, so depends on what you're looking for). This and a wonky shower are the only reason for 4 stars.

Overall - nice hotel, clean and cleaned whilst we were there which was great as we were only staying 3 nights, rooms just had a few small issues. We would definitely stay again and would recommend to others.

The hotel is a short walk from Ottoviano Metro station, get the metro A line to Battistini from Rome Termini Station and you'll come out a few streets away.

When arrived at Orange Hotel, there was someone on reception and we quickly got checked in and paid our city tax (about €3 per day, per person, so €6 per day). We were given our room key and room number and headed off to drop off our bags before going to find an evening meal.

On our return from dinner our room key worked fine to let us in but failed to turn on the lights at all. We asked someone at reception and they came up and tried the lights, after checking the fuse box the receptionist went to sort us an alternative room. Was sorted quickly and receptionist was apologetic even though it wasn't their fault the lights wouldn't work.

Room #2 seemed just as good. Once settled in, we found the TV didn't work, despite following the instructions, not really an issue as we weren't planning to be in much anyway. The shower was a bit awkward as it wouldn't adjust angles but did the job needed. Nothing really major for us and the reception staff were lovely.

We noted luggage storage by the side entrance (opposite side to the reception entrance) so that's handy if you're staying longer and have cases but we only had a small bag each and so didn't use this facility.

We loved the location of this hotel and think its great if you enjoy walking and sightseeing under your own steam.

The hotel is situated in a really good location just beside the walls of the Vatican. It was only a 5 minute walk to get into St Peters Square. The hotel is set back a street from the Main Street and so is quieter in the day and evenings and relatively noise free, we didn’t experience any noise in the nights and just heard bins being collected early one morning. There are nice restaurants along the street and also a small supermarket very close by. The hotel is very close to main shopping areas and plenty of cafes and pharmacies are near by. The hotel itself is small and nicely decorated. It is very modern and has a good air conditioning system. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. the restaurant on the top floor was closed during our stay so we didn’t at on the premises but there is a huge selection of local restaurants to choose from. Our room had a fridge that didn’t work, we didn’t contact reception about it as we were out all day and ate out in the evenings and didn’t have use for it. We were supplied with plenty of clean towels and toiletries. In the five days that we stayed the room was cleaned twice and the sheets and towels weren’t changed. We requested new towels ourselves and the ladies were more than happy to provide them for us. We had a very positive experience in the hotel and would definitely stay again if we come back to Rome. The location was ideal for us and we felt very welcomed and happy with the facilities in the hotel.

Good location, 5 minute walk from Vatican. Approx 20 min walk to trevi fountain and Spanish steps. bars, restaurants and supermarkets near by. Also close to taxi pick up points, metro and buses.

Hotel is very basic and lacks facilities. pictures appeared to show a roof top which was closed when we went. TV didn't work in the room, lights also didn't work. bedding was stained (beds were changed the following day which was nice but new sheets also stained) Room could do with a freshen up. Bathroom was nice and clean, lovely shower. The room was also secure and required a code to get in which made the room feel very safe.

Although on busy street, quiet at night which meant we slept well. Staff were helpful and friendly.

I would recommend staying if you're just wanting a basic room and plan on being out. Not if you're rethink a base to spend time in.

The pictures of the hotel look nice, but it does not reflect the reality.

The walls seem to be covered by drapes to reduce street noice but it’s not enough. You really feel like your sleeping on the street and it does not get quiet until 2am when Rome and the restaurant under the hotel finally go to sleep.

The conditions of the floor and walls were terrible. Missing tiles, teared up walls, and mold stains were the first impressions from the place.

There’s a tub in the room that looks really nice, but there’s no hot water in it and train stop does not work even if you wanted to sit in cold water.

The bathroom sink soap pump did not work and their permanent solution was to leave the container out for you to pour it out.

No breakfast available or restaurant available, so if you’re mesmerized by the view in the photo, it’s not going to happen!

The staff was friendly and ok while speaking English, but they were talking s*** about us in Italian when we complained about the things I’ve mentioned. They didn’t realized that I speak Italian.

It was a huge disappointment to be in this horrible place upon arrival to Italy.

The only positive thing was the location, but don’t book this hotel for the location as we found many other hotels in the neighborhood that were so much better.

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in, not even 1 star our a good hostel. We paid for a superior room I would hate to see the standard room. We were on the 1st floor with 2 very slim windows with blinds, even without the sun you would not have opened them, about 4 feet from someones kitchen. The Jacuzzi bath was very dirty and would not work. the man on reception finally got it going. The safe would not work it needed new batteries. The plug for the wash hand basin in the bathroom would not secure but water filled the basin every time you turned on the tap, the lever to empty it was solid with gunge and neglect, no problem the basin emptied from a leek all ove the bathroom floor. No restaurant or bar you could not even get a cup of coffee. I asked for a cup which they brought and it was chipped. We stayed 2 nights and the first day our room was not cleaned so no fresh towels, after the second time of asking and going to reception we finally got towels. No place to sit on check in to wait for the room to be ready only a settee outside the door in the heat. The room was so dark no centre light lamps with orange shades and dark walls like a dungeon. My husband never complains as I do all the bookings for the first time ever I allowed the agent to book our hotel as I was short of time and his opinion was an absolute dump which need closing down.Where the 3.5 rating has come from I will leave to your imagination, if the offer of the room free was given I would not stay there again. This is my honest opinion and experience. Kath South Yorkshire UK

Got moved rooms twice - first time we actually walked in to a room that was already in use, reception said we apologise and will upgrade. Upgrade meant Jacuzzi bath instead of shower. Next morn 9am, knock at door and told by same guy that he shouldn’t have moved us to that room which meant we had to move again. But room not ready. Had to leave suitcases at reception. Finally moved for second time, nothing offered in compensation. Downgraded again but least shower and aircon worked. Skirting board hanging off. On the other hand, was good location and final room was ok for what we paid.

The Orange Hotel was a complete disaster. We had arranged in advance with the hotel to have a driver pick us up at a boat port in Citivecchia in the evening of our arrival. They did not send a driver. They blamed it on everyone else even though I have it confirmed in writing. We could not get a taxi or uber. We had to wait in the very cold, CLOSED boat port for 6 hours. After the hotel promised to get a taxi or uber, they did not. We had to walk 2 km at 4 am in the morning on cobblestone, uphill to catch a train to the hotel. We did not arrive to the Hotel until 6:30 a.m. because of the Hotel's failure. They finally admitted they made a mistake; yet, they still insisted on charging the full amount. They ruined our first night in Rome, our second day because we were utterly exhausted, put our lives at risk and I could go on...overall a miserable job and I would never recommend this hotel. Both my boyfriend and I are experienced, international travelers. This was one of the worst experiences ever.

Additionally, the breakfast was horrible and the rooms smelled like sewage.

Stayed here for 3 nights with my boyfriend through easyjet and it was honestly everything we needed. Massive room with a king sized bed and a massive en-suite. It was room only and we spent a lot of time sight seeing, but when we were in need of a rest this hotel is greatly located near both Vatican City and Rome center. Not sure what all the bad reviews are about, as everything we wanted was able to be catered for. The rooftop bar isn’t open which we were aware of, and things like luggage storage was available along with a mini shop by reception.
Really enjoyable stay, thank you :)

worst hotel i ever been. Bathroom, room and air conditioner old and dirty. wi-fi terrible. No area of breakfast, and they incredibly sell a voucher for croissant and juice in a caffe that, if you don’t buy this voucher in hotel, you buy cheaper in the caffe itself. The only positive is the service of the staff, especially Paul who helped us with a problem in reservation.

Awful hotel, swapped rooms from one you would have to sit sideways on the toilet to one with a shower that dribbled lukewarm water. Restaurant was closed, as were other amenities.
Staff were great and location was excellent.
Hostel at best, 4star hotel it is not
