Just off Piazza Maggiore, right across from the antique Clock Tower from which the hotel gets its name, this Art Hotel represents the ideal stay for those who love atmospheric historical flavour without forgoing the comforts of a modern hotel. Hotel Orologio is a delightful and charming hotel with a view of the city’s most venerable landmarks: the Palazzo Comunale, Palazzo d’Accursio, Palazzo dei Notai all frame Piazza Maggiore, one of Italy’s most beautiful medieval piazzas. Our warm and welcoming tea room offers a moment of repose in the tranquil peace of a typical Bolognese palazzo. It central location provides the ideal starting point for sampling the events, museums, theatres, culture, and shopping that Bologna has to offer, all close at hand.

The Art Hotel Orologio is celebrated for its enchanting atmosphere, with guests frequently lauding its charming decor and the warm hospitality that makes for a welcoming experience. Nestled in a central location, a stone's throw from Piazza Maggiore, the hotel's convenience is a highlight for visitors.

Hotel's Favourite
We stayed in one of the suites on the top floor. The room was very well sized, and very clean. Sad as it may sound the shopping bags that were left to use were a nice touch and were extremely useful during the trip and a nice little memento of the trip. My only criticism would be the breakfast buffet. Although a fair amount of choice, the cooked offering could have been a little better. The service at breakfast was excellent, but the server remembering the order every time. Th location was great. Close to the major sites and near bars and restaurants. The central train station only a short bus or taxi ride if needed. If you are staying in Bologna for a long time I would recommend a day trip to San Marino as well. It's beautiful.
I would definitely stay here again

Our four-day stay here was thoroughly enjoyable! The rooms are tastefully decorated, quiet, and the air conditioning was a lifesaver during multiple days of 103 degree F (39 celsius) temperatures. All staff were pleasant, efficient, and helpful. All spoke multiple languages.
Here is an example of how this hotel went above and beyond. The morning of our departure we walked 20 minutes to the train station. Only then did we discover the next four trains to our destination were sold out, and the first train we could take was over three hours later. That meant waiting in intense heat with our backpacks on with nowhere to go. However, my wife phoned the hotel and asked if we could go back to the room for a few hours, even though we had already checked out. The gentleman at the reception, Domenico I think is his name, could not have been more gracious. "Of course you can come back to the room."
We recommend this hotel without hesitation!

Situated just off the Piazza Maggiore, this is a great location for exploring the main attractions of Bologna and is tastefully decorated with nice rooms and bathrooms. An added bonus is a kettle in the room so you can make your own tea and coffee - they even supply a range of tea bags. The beds were really comfortable and the air conditioning worked really well. Breakfast is nice, but you have to pay extra for eggs. The only reason I can think it isn't 4 star is that it hasn't got a restaurant, but there is plenty of choice practically on the doorstep. Staff were helpful and spoke English. Not cheap, but worth the money.

We stayed there for a long weekend and obviously chose the place for its location. It is just off Piazza Maggiore which is right in the city centre. The staff was efficient, the room was spotless and bedding was changed every night. The room was lovely, with a big comfortable bed. It had an old Italian style to it with big wooden doors and even statues in the room. Lots of choice for breakfast, mainly sweet (cakes, biscuits, pastries, cereals) and scrambled eggs, bacon, cold meat and cheese for those who prefer savoury. Dressing gowns and slippers in the room, coffee/tea facilities, toiletries, access to a safe and mini bar. It can get a bit noisy as there are buskers on the square and obviously the clock, so bring ear plugs. The hotel looked after our bags on the last day and called a taxi for us. 20min and approx €20 for a taxi to the airport. The name above the hotel door is Albergo Orologio which made it a bit confusing when we arrived.

Although we had booked the sister hotel Novo prior to Covid we were moved to Orologio and upgraded as a gesture.
We absolutely loved the location, right in the heart of Bologna, central to everything. Fabulous restaurant just outside as well as many in surrounding streets.
The Hotel had upgraded us to a suite which was on the 5th floor and beautifully decorated, we really couldnt fault anything. Staff were so helpful and always around.
The breakfast although continental was sufficient and very nice, you could choose to pay for eggs etc but we were very happy with the offering and even better it is on until 11am.
The Covid issues were covered very well, with face coverings offered at Reception and hand sanitisers everywhere.
Loved the hotel and Bologna.
I would recommend both the Red open top bus and the little train 'express' as you see very different parts of the city and gave us the chance to go back to areas we had seen.

We needed too ok find a hotel in Bologna due to a change of flights (caused by cancellations). We found Hotel Orologio, like the location as we wanted to make the most of any time we spent in the city.
On arrival we realised just how well sited the hotel is, just off Piazza Maggiore and the old town buildings and shops.
On entering the hotel we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist (I regret I didn’t get her name) who told us we had been upgraded. The hotel is beautiful with artworks on display as well as Art Deco pieces and architectural items - many clocks!.
Our room we were very pleasantly surprised to find was the Orvalle Suite which comprises a spacious sitting room, lovely bedroom and marble clad bathroom. We felt very spoiled and spent time in the two Juliet balcony windows looking out and listening to the city life - one lady serenading everyone with arias was particularly welcome!
A perfect base to explore the beautiful city of Bologna, very friendly and welcoming staff and a splendid spread laid on for breakfast, I can only recommend you stay in the Hotel Orologio if you can as you’ll very much enjoy your stay.
A particular thanks also as, due to a second flight cancellation the hotel stored our suitcases so that we could get some delicious lunch in Via Drapperie. We’ll definitely return to Bologna one day and will be staying here again.

We stayed in the palazzo suite for one night. It is around the corner from the hotel in a apartment building. We found it to be very comfortable, clean and quiet. There is a full kitchen with utensils including dishwasher, microwave, and refrigerator. If you are a family traveling and want to cook meals at home this is the perfect accommodation. There is a sofa that becomes a bed and it’s easy to block
off the master for privacy. Two bathrooms one with a shower and the other with a bathtub. The A/C works great. The parking garage is $55 a night and is about a block away. You can purchase breakfast for $15e per person but with all the great spots nearby we don’t recommend eating at the hotel.

Excellent hotel located right off the central Bologna piazza, Piazza Maggiore, which was nevertheless quite quiet. Our room was decorated with a beautiful art poster and sculptures over our bed, which was very comfortable. We stayed five nights, and the friendly and helpful front desk staff recommended restaurants for us that we enjoyed. Breakfasts were very good, and included Italian and American coffee drinks, and hot scrambled eggs and breakfast meats. We had to leave the hotel around 3:45 in the morning, and the hotel reserved a taxi for us so that we could get to the airport on time for an early flight (our departure time was unfortunately changed when our original flight from Bologna was cancelled). The hotel is in a very convenient location for sight-seeing and restaurants. Our room was cleaned daily by a very hardworking staff member, who, like everyone else, was friendly.

We spent three nights at Orologio. Hotel is in a very central location and nearby many shops and restaurants. Front desk staff (Erika and Juneth) were very helpful with choosing a small suite and with dinner reservations. Good breakfast notwithstanding Covid protocols. Highly recommend it.

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. My room was cozy and tastefully decorated. Breakfast was Italian/continental and featured local produce, served in an elegant dining area. The staff were always very friendly and helpful. All in all a perfect choice for a city visit. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to family and friends!

I didn't ask about a hotel transfer but the front desk took assisted in several other ways, including getting a taxi in the rain when there were few available, so I am confident they will help you with the airport transfer.
Yes, there is individual air conditioning in each room, at least in the main building. It is a newer system, which worked very well. The hotel staff can reprogram it from their main computer if there are any glitches

I don’t know about the annex. We were in a room with one queen bed and two singles (for adult children). We were not facing the square but rather a side street. Sorry I can’t help more. Maybe the hotel can send you a simple map, even if hand drawn. Ask for hem to note where the square is
