Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a lovely night we enjoyed in this idyllic, peaceful location as a 'pit stop' returning from a long weekend. Suzanne and her staff could not have offered us a warmer welcome to the Star Hotel, basking in summer sunshine on our arrival. Ice cold cider and lager were enjoyed safely in the garden before retiring to our immaculate room, well equipped with all the essentials and more. Lovely wee complementary touches meant a couple of weary travellers could enjoy a night in a spotlessly clean room. A comfy bed made for a calm night's sleep, sufficiently away from the main road to be able to have the window open. In the morning an excellent powerful shower and a hearty breakfast, tailored to our tastes from a substantial menu, set us up perfectly for our onward journey. If ever you're in the area, reach for the Star and you won't be disappointed.

Warm welcome from all of the helpful, friendly staff and owner. Very clean and comfortable ensuite bedroom with thoughtful extra details of an iron and ironing board, teatowl, toothbrushes, bags of crisps and bakery brownies..along with the normal tea tray, toiletries etc.

We had an evening meal that was really good and the nicest homemade chicken liver pate I have ever tasted...sorry Albert yours is now in second place.

Breakfast was great and there was plenty of butter to hand for the toast which made a welcome change.

I will certainly stay again

We were a group of two couples and two friends and booked all three rooms for two nights to attend a wedding nearby. Rooms are great and had everything we needed. Hairdryer, iron, ironing board, tea, coffee etc. Even had toothbrushes in the bathroom. The owner popped in early evening to check we had everything we needed which was a very nice touch. We only had breakfast on the first morning and it was cooked to perfection. The lady who served us was very helpful and accommodating with plenty of tea, coffee, toast etc on offer. When she learned we were going to a wedding she arranged for the rooms to be cleaned after we left.
The area seemed quiet but was perfect for our stay.
Would recommend! .

We booked this hotel for 1 night as we were attending a wedding at nearby GG’s yard. The room was spotless and smelled lovely on arrival. Nice touches in the room such as packets of crisps, bottles of water, new toothbrushes/toothpaste etc. all included in the room rate. The owners accommodated an early check in for me which I requested ahead of my stay. The owners also let me know that they had recently taken over the property and were in the process of modernising it so it can only get better and would definitely be worth a return stay if I was in the area.

I booked this with breakfast included, but they told me well in advance that the restaurant would not be open. I still chose to stay and stocked up on porridge pots and pot noodles! Glad I did. What a cosy place to stay. Spotlessly clean, feels modern and so much thought has gone in to adding little extras like spare toothbrushes, disposable cutlery etc. There’s even a selection of DVDs and books as you enter the foyer. I’m currently staying in the annex behind the pub and it’s quiet and warm. This is a community run hotel and they’re doing a fantastic job. I would highly recommend this place for anyone stopping in the area.

Stayed here recently as I was conducting a wedding nearby. Friendly welcome, good beer on tap, John Smiths is my favourite, room spotless and well kitted out with everything you would need, even a brand new toothbrush and new tube if toothpaste. Tea tray in room was excellent too. Had breakfast, Big portion and cooked very well by a really nice lady. Most definitely recommend this hotel to anyone AND the biggest bonus for me was ground floor room. Thanks everyone for making it a great stay

This is a delightful hotel in the heart of the community of Twynholm. We have visited on several occasions and each visit offers the same warmth and hospitality. Everyone is very welcoming Rooms are warm with plenty of toiletries should you have forgotten something. Breakfast is delicious with plenty of choice and should you wish to have an evening meal you have a varied menu to choose from. A very relaxing breakaway in the quiet countryside.

What a great find. The room was lovely with a comfy bed, so comfy that we found out the next day there had been a big thunder storm but we'd slept through it. The room was very well equipped with iron and ironing board plus a hairdryer, kettle with plenty of tea, coffee, milk, sugar and biscuits. We had our evening meal and breakfast at the hotel both excellent meals. We will definitely return for a longer stay in the future.

We were a group of 6: 4 adults and 2 children and we were delighted to be accommodated at short notice (visited whilst the government eat out to help out scheme was running). The food was that fantastic we visited again the following evening.

Everything was cooked from fresh and homemade, too many dishes that were fabulous to recommend!

My stay at the Star Hotel was excellent!! I was doing wildlife photography in the area, so it was a perfect base for me. The room was extremely clean and comfortable. Travelling on my own, I was made to feel really welcome by Amy and the other staff, who were all so helpful and friendly. I was unable to have breakfast two of my three mornings, as I was out so early, so they provided me with packed lunch, which was a lovely touch and my vegetarian breakfast on my last morning was absolutely delicious.
Have already book another stay in the spring
