Kim and Nelson the new management at The Star are doing a great job and we were made to feel very welcome. The atmosphere and food were great. The rooms were ideal for our long weekend of wildlife photography at the fantastic Scottish Photography Hides run by Alan McFadyen. The hotel is a perfect central location. Is certainly my go to place to stay when in the area.

Room was clean tidy and well set out. Warm welcome received in Star bar next door. We had enjoyable nite , staying in twyholm rather than leaving the village. The food was tasty, and would recommend the steak and ale pie.

Had a nice stay at the star while doing a photography workshop in November. I just needed a place to sleep after long days out with the camera. It was great. The bed was very comfy, room was nice and warm and I had the added bonus of being able to call in to the bar for a few beers before bedtime. Food in the hotel was also great, I had steak two nights and it was great, Sunday roast was not bad too. The breakfast was tasty and a good size portion, had to miss two of them as I was out at 7 and the earliest they would do one was 7.30. I did however get a pack lunch. Well worth the money and would go back.

Turned up for lunch today, Thursday, just before 2pm, with board outside and notice on wall advertising lunch served between 12 and 2:30. Nobody in either bar or lounge, and told that they weren't serving lunch after all. Considering that the notice on the wall declared that the hotel was under new management, this is hardly impressive!

The Star at Twynholm was a fabulous place to stay for a few nights whilst visiting my son who lives in the village. Kim and Nelson have done a fantastic job with the rooms. They are well-equipped and comfortable, and the optional breakfast was definitely worth having every day. I also ate in the restaurant in the evening, and can definitely recommend the steak! I've stayed here several times over the past two years, and will always try and rebook here if I can before going anywhere else.
