My mum and I spent 2 weeks at the Astoria June/July 2022 and we really enjoyed it. The room itself was clean and comfortable with a nice balcony and lovely lake view. The staff were all friendly and helpful, especially Claudio in the restaurant who was a real character! We were half-board so ate breakfast and lunch in the hotel everyday and despite being a fussy eater we didn't struggle for food at all, there was a good choice both for the breakfast buffet and the sit-down dinner and the dinner menu was different everyday. The pool area was also excellent, plenty of sunbeds available and parasols for shade and the pool itself whilst small was great for cooling off and has a jacuzzi feature at one end. The location was almost perfect, just a few minutes walk into the centre of Stresa or to the train station. The only real location issue was the beach bar for the the hotel next door where it was a bit loud until around midnight if they had a party or function on (that only happened on 2 nights out of the 14 we were there)

Hotel Astoria is in a perfect location - across the road from the Lake and a few minutes walk from Stresa and the ferry. There is a long promenade in front of the hotel so you can walk both ways.
We had room 406 on the fourth floor overlooking the Lake with fantastic views of the Alps.
Everyone who works at Astoria were really friendly, helpful and polite. Special mention to Sadin, the Head Waiter who was exceptional. He speaks English and German as well as Italian. Also special thanks to our chambermaid who did a brilliant job.
We were on half board - the breakfasts were really good with fresh fruit, yoghurt, pastries, toast or cooked if you prefer.
Dinner was a set menu with excellent waiter service. There was always a good choice of starters and they were well cooked but the mains only had 3 choices - usually meat with the same vegetables for all 3 choices eg roast fennel or roast chicory with potatoes. Unfortunately the mains looked rather bland, which was disappointing. Best meal we had was salmon which was great.
We did feel that it was a bit much to have to pay 2.50 euros for a small bottle of water for the table. We had been advised not to drink the tap water.

If the mains had been better & the water for the table had been provided, I would have given 5 stars as everything else was high quality.

The local tourist office (opposite the ferry) was excellent. Worth popping in there to book tickets & get loads of help from them.

We spent three nights at this hotel and found it to be very comfortable, excellent location for visiting the lake and had all the facilities you could need including a pool. The room was very clean and had a big bed. Breakfast was a good selection of hot as well as cold food. Dinner was excellent and reasonably priced. The staff were delightful and couldn’t do enough for us. Being right opposite the ferries it makes Hotel Astoria an excellent, good value place to stay if you want to explore the area.

We stayed at this hotel on Lake Maggorie it was a beautiful location, the rooms were in our case very nice, modern with wooden flooring. Excellent air conditioning, really needed. The breakfast was excellent as we were having the same food as the other guests, but not the same could be said for dinner, my description was a bit like school dinners, only two choices fish or meat. It would have been nice to have seen a more upmarket menu which they actually did have, also a cheese trolley, but sadly not for the package people.🥲 And every day for 5 nights the starter was a salad selection, not a choice, soup would have an alternative.

We initially booked with Hotel Lido but upon arriving it was empty, doors locked and vegetation a little over grown. I thought it was eerie at first. There was a sign on the door to contact someone at the Astoria Hotel, which I didn't see at first because I was so confused and upset. I was about to ring the door bell until a wonderful, beautiful, kind and friendly lady opened the door. She didn't speak English at all and I know very little Italian but we both used "the universal" gestures, which got us along very well. She called the phone number from her cell and got in touch with the person who spoke English and he tells us to go to him at the Astoria Hotel explaining where he was. Once there he explained everything. He was also kind and to the point wasting no time for us to settle in and get us going with our vacation. The room was very clean, smelled clean, very nice interior design (love the electric shutters) and we were close to the rooftop with a beautiful open view whenever we wanted. We used the table and chairs to have an after dinner drink and unwind from a days adventure on the hop-on-hop-off boats to the islands on the lake. The hotel has a very beautiful stroll along the lake to get to the boats and not far at all. They also have the jacuzzi, sunbathing lounges, table tennis up on the roof as well. The staff in the restaurant work very well together, they are kind and friendly and take their job serious in making sure the guests are happy. Very well done! BRAVO! EXCELLENTE! PERFECT!

My Mum and I were really looking forward to our holiday after the previous 2.5 years, losing my Dad and then Covid-19.
After having our flights changed from Easyjet to Jet2 flying into Verona instead of Milan, we arrived at the hotel exhausted to find our room wasn't ready. When we did get tomorrow room it was extremely small, the beds were made up as singles but still pushed together with no room for them to be separated. If it had been two friends it would have been totally unacceptable. There was nowhere to put suitcases and so little storage we couldn't unpack all our clothes. The air con didn't work properly and was noisy. The room really was only suitable for single occupant. I asked about changing rooms but there were no spare rooms for at least a few days, though the reception staff didn't guarantee we would get a different room. The food was a mixed bag. Breakfast was good, plenty of choice and as you would expect for a 4⭐️. The evening meals were disappointing to say the least. We had booked a vegetarian requirement but the first night there was nothing other than a starter of mixed salad that I could eat. There was no offer to cook me anything that I could eat and the head waiter was rather rude. The meat options were below par with the meat cooked poorly and very little effort put into making tasty attractive meals.
After input from the rep I was told I would have a couple of choices of meal each evening and we would get a different room the third day. The food choices became a joke between us and the waiting staff as each night there was pasta with tomato and basil or pesto sauce and parmigiano(aubergine and cheese). Not being a fan of aubergine I had pasta every evening 🙄, some puddings were nice; tiramasu and peach panacotta, some were not so good.
After complaining about our room and the food the reception staff blanked us each time we walked past. The head waiter from the first night was also unfriendly but thankfully Sadine and a younger waiter were both friendly and helpful. The barman was also friendly and we had some great conversations, he also makes a mean pina colarda.
The new room was 100% better, it was really nice and had we had that room from the start the food issue would have been more bearable. Some rooms have clearly been renovated and some certainly need renovating.
As they have buffet style breakfasts I think they would do better going back to buffets in the evening. However, they need to look at the food choices and the chefs, the food was bland and uninspiring. Numerous guests made comments about what "delights" awaited us each evening and pushed food around their plates with little enthusiasm to eat it.
This is some of the food for a vegetarian; raw carrot and ricotta cheese, tomato and basil pasta.
Nice puds...

We spent a week in July and would recommend & return but on B & B terms as evening meals were not to our liking . The staff are really helpful speaking English . The hotel was built in 1954 and is family run with Italian style decor . Our room was 403 ,overlooking the lake with a balcony & superb views . The room was pale pink and cream , very clean , lovely comfortable twin beds, pushed together , nice linen and soft pillows Electric blinds and thick curtains . Mini fridge , and a safe . Plenty of storage space . No tea making . Hotel can hire adapters , ( 3 pin plugs in a row , which is different to most continental sockets ) We found it quite at night and slept well . I noticed that the hotel was taking delivery of new mattresses , so may be we had a new one . I think the room and bathroom had been refurbished as it was spotless . Shower , with a hand rail and a stool , plus pull alarm and air extraction fan , anti slip mats are available . Lots of hot water ,soap and shampoo provided .

We stayed at the Hotel Astoria as part of a group holiday.

Our room was a decent size, comfortable bed etc. The shower was basically useless; on a flexible hose over the corner bath, with no shower screen, thus any attempt to use the shower “properly” flooded the bathroom (meaning you could say wash your hair with the shower keeping it close your head, but as soon as you moved it away, water poured over the floor).

Breakfast was OK, good selection of items, but cheaper cereals, tinned fruit etc. not what one would expect in this sort of hotel.

Dinner was poor, with a “special” more restricted menu than normal hotel guests. Quantities were tiny, especially main course items. It is of course probable that the holiday company negotiated a very tight food budget with the hotel, but this still reflects badly on the hotel.

Drinks were expensive, even by hotel prices, and even allowing for this being a very popular holiday destination.

This was our third visit to the Astoria BUT it will be our last.
The hotel is lovely, the location is perfect, the staff excellent. I would give them all 5 stars
But
The problem is during our 2 week holiday there were 5 weddings at the hotel
That's 5 nights of disruption and noise.
The wedding guests take precedent over the hotel guests
The staff try to do their best but face an impossible task
The dining room is either taken over completely by the wedding party and the hotel guests are put in a room at the back
Or the dining room is divided off and some hotel guests are squeezed in one end with portable room dividers. So you are then subjected to riotous noise from the wedding party.
The hotel has a lovely dining room which overlooks the lake, that's what the brochure shows and that's what you expect. We were given a good table with good views of the lake. But when the weddings are on you are turfed out to make room for the wedding so not getting what you paid for.
The hotel owners and management should be ashamed as to how they treat the hotel guests.
Then there is the hotel next door La Palma. It has a beach club right on the lake and on some nights it has parties with extremely loud boom boom music blaring out until 12 midnight.

This happened on 4 of our 14 nights so along with the weddings 9 out of 14 nights disrupted.
If I wanted Boom Boom music I would have gone to Ibiza
You go to the Italian lakes for a quiet relaxing holiday not Discos

My husband and I stayed here as part of a Riviera Small Group Tour. We booked a lake view room and wow what an amazing view we had from the third floor. The room was spotless, rather small with a lovely walk in shower and fridge. We received a very warm welcome as we arrived for our first evening meal and were allocated a lovely table for two at the side of the restaurant which we kept for the whole week. This made our holiday. Breakfasts were delicious with a wide variety of food, evening meals were three courses with three selections for each course. Some of the items in the menu may be questioned by some people, though we enjoyed every meal that we had all washed down with a bottle of wine. If you fail to finish your bottle of wine they will keep it for you for the next evening. The servers were extremely friendly and accomodating, nothing was ever a problem as they explained the choices on some evenings. The pool which had only opened this year was a refreshing welcome from the high temperatures, always plenty of space.
The location is excellent ideally located for the centre of Stresa and the boat trips across the lake. Highlight of the day a gin and tonic sitting on the front terrace with the fountains gently flowing in the background - tranquility!!
We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay and found all of the staff so friendly and helpful. A word of warning watch out for the mosquitoes at this time of year. A special mention to our tour guide, Pauline, who was amazing.
