Nice large modern rooms high ceiling great central location tucked in a narrow street. Friendly staff no negatives at all probably not good if you have a hard time cobelstones walking quiet rooms, great bed, shower not bath, upper floors have balconies but as it was Christmas and cool and we don't spend time in the room during the day...

This 15-room romantic hotel is a gem. I almost don't want to write about it so it stays the same: quiet, perfect location, amazing service and the rooms are very spacious in this old (renovated) palace. Breakfast has everything one needs too

Visited this small hotel first time some 8 years ago and now again. Liked it then and now even more. Excellent location, big stylish rooms, friendly personnel and great breakfast. Good choice! Will definitely go back.

It was a lovely experience in more than one way to stay at Antica Locanda dei Mercanti in that it felt as if one was at home in a lovely 'home' but it was also very professionally managed. The staff was friendly, helpful , cheerful and concerning. The rooms are all individually decorated and interesting and tasteful, yet comfortable. I...

We arrived from Australia and our first accommodation was Antica Locanda dei Mercanti. Great location in the north of the city centre, close to transport and the Castello Sforzesco and its park. Excellent service. The room was functional and had an attractive terrace that was an excellent place to sit and read (snooze) when the jet lag hit in mid-afternoon.

Once we found the "secret" door...many Milan buildings have tiny doors embedded in huge massive doors and realized we had to walk up some steps, the experience was excellent. We had beautiful balcony room looking down the alley toward a busy area with lots of places to shop, eat, etc. Great location. Didn't think to ask for dinner recommendations and...

The hotel is in a fabulous location--close to most major attractions as well as the Metro. The staff was excellent--friendly and knowledgeable--with a better dinner restaurant recommendation every evening. Our room with a terrace was very nice. Also, don't miss Maria's freshly-baked breakfast treats in the morning!

If you are looking for an Italian hotel in the heart of historic Milan, this place is for you. Although a challenge to find, it's worth the trouble. The rooms are spacious, modern, and comfortable. The staff courteous and helpful. Although only steps away from the main piazza, the rooms are quiet. We have stayed here twice and would again.

Location was perfect, walking distance to Duomo, the Castle, Brera, the fashion district. I had a terrace room which was wonderful, lovely plants and comfortable furniture made it a great place to relax with some wine after a long day of sightseeing. They even sell the wine there so no need to find a store. Room itself was nice as...

We stayed there in August when the weather was quite hot and humid. A nice, cool room awaited out return each day after each outing. The room was large, and comfortable. If you're looking for super fancy, look elsewhere. The desk personnel could not have been more helpful. Breakfast was practically amazing (I am not a breakfast eater), and included...

Staying in Centro Storico

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro Storico
The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Locanda is an unexpected oasis of peace and quiet in Milan’s frenetic city centre. The elegant 18th century building is in a pedestrian area dedicated to shopping.Once you arrive you can forget your car – you’re in the very heart of Milan, close to La Scala opera house, the Duomo, the Stock Exchange, and the famous designer stores on via Monte Napoleone and via della Spiga. The décor is the creation of architect Vittorio Locatelli, who loves combining refined warm pastel hues with rough, natural materials, following his fancy wherever it takes him. His intention was to furnish the Locanda so that people would feel they were at home. He designed four suggestive rooms, each with a beautiful flower-filled terrace, a rare occurrence in a city like Milan. The atmosphere throughout is pleasant and relaxed, and prompt personalised service is guaranteed. ... more   less
