We loved the Casa dei Pittori! We were 2 adults with 2 teenagers and stayed in a 2 bedroom with a terrace on the 2nd floor. The apartment building is on the corner of two canals and we had a corner apartment overlooking both canals. We so enjoyed watching the gondolas cruise by on a regular basis. This is in... More

We stayed at Casa dei Pittori on a family trip to Italy and had a wonderful time. The building itself is old and full of character and it's in a residential neighborhood that made us feel like we were really experiencing the city. Francesco and his staff were very helpful, met us at the train station and gave us great... More

We really enjoyed our stay here. The living room/kitchen area was big and it was nice to have two seperate bedrooms. Someone met us by the train station and walked us to our room. I loved not having to get all of our luggage on a water bus and take it down the Canal. It is much easier to walk... More

We travelled with our 10 yr old son and wanted to have an apartment with bedrooms and kitchen so we could enjoy Venice at our own pace and style. Right from our initial booking, to email communication and with the lovely Francesco meeting us at the nearby 10 min walk train station, we were pleased with our choice in apartments.... More

Our family (2 adults, 2 children) stayed in the ground floor apartment with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom in early December. The apartment was a fantastic base for exploring Venice on foot and had far more character than many bigger hotels. The apartment was very spacious which was great for our family. The kitchen is small but functional with a good... More

We had the apartment with 2 bedrooms 1 bathroom, and balcony on the second floor. Great view from the balcony. Great neighbourhood, with amenities like grocery store, good restaurants etc. close by. Not too touristy. Excellent reception - met at train station and guided to the apartment. Very secure and safe. Highly recommended.

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
