Having appeared on the booking website to have wifi included and then finding it was three euro per hour and only in the lobby, it's fair to say this hotel didn't get off on the right foot. I could rant about how stupid it is to expect clients to pay £100+ for a room and then charge them for wifi...

This hotel is nice, it has a very royal feel about it, we learnt while we were in Venice it was actually a church early on and has been around for hundreds of years. The room size is lovely, very high ceilings. It is in a nice location, on the canals. The breakfast was good, with a lot of choice....

An attractive hotel about 5 minutes walk from Piazza Roma and convenient for most places you would want to walk to in Venice. Breakfast is a buffet, with tables in a pretty courtyard (with very cheeky thieving birds!) and is more than adequate. Our room was fairly small but comfortable and had a nice view over a canal. The only...

We found this hotel fantastic for the price we paid for our short weekend away in Venice. The location is around 5 minutes walk from P.Roma bus terminal and the train station and the 1st stop of the Vaperetto service. The hotel is situated in a quiet neighbourhood which we loved with fantastic views of the canal, just as I...

My room was a little dated but clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet is nice, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. You have to pay for wifi, and it wouldn't work in my room, only in the lobby. The neighborhood is charming and fairly quiet, and the hotel is very close to the train and bus station (about...

This hotel brings the history of Venice to life. The halls leading up to the stairs have pictures of the wealthy family who used to own this former palace and the lounge contains antique trunks, it is very atmospheric. If you love history, stay here. The front desk staff were very welcoming, polite and friendly, always happy to help. The...

This is a charming hotel that really is well situated. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure that your stay is everything you hoped it would be. They were knowledgeable and very eager to assist us whenever we had questions. Like most european hotels, the rooms are somewhat small, but well appointed. We had a lovely room overlooking...

We stayed here for 2 nights during our honeymoon. We thought it was a great location which was close to piazzo roma where buses are for the airport so not too many bridges to lug your bags over. The hotel was full of character and reception staff were helpful and polite. Breakfast was basic, what you expect , room was...

Having been to Venice before I thought it wasn't such a good location but I forgot what it's like having to drag your suitcase onto a vaporetto and fight the crowds...this hotel is just 2 small bridges away from the main bus station, but it feels like light years! It's a lovely little hotel next to a canal. Quiet at...

Unfortunately we had to stay an extra night in venice as our easy jet flight got cancelled. We booked a last minute junior suite here, having stayed round the corner in a different hotel the previous two nights. We wouldn't recommend it. The rooms were characterless, dusty and shabby The safe didn't work, we reported it and no one came...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
