Neighbourhood
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.

My room was compact but very comfortable. Beautiful views from my bedroom and the bathroom. Bed was comfortable and the room was very clean. I was up another half a floor from my friends and this meant extra steps but wasn’t a problem. I felt safe and secure staying on my own

From the airport, we took the bus to the piazza a short walk from the hotel. We walked from the hotel to the cruise ship. The location of the hotel is excellent.

Dear Cecilia, the best way to get to our hotel from the train station is walking and we suggest you should engage a porter to carry your luggage. They should not charge you more than 5 euros per bag, so negotiate before you hire them. They must have a badge and an orange vest to be real porters. If you don't want to do that, a water taxi would cost 50 euros but it's only 5 minutes walk, so the price is little too high. If you need more information, please don't hesitate to contact us by email. Best regards

There is an elevator, 2 person max. Takes about 20 minutes to walk to St. Mark's, however there is so much to see and do between relax and take an hour!

The hair dryer was standard as in most hotel's. I always take my own, so I know I will have the settings I prefer. Just make sure you have the correct currency converter for the outlet . You can easily buy them before you go at most any retail store that has a travel section (luggage) and sells travel accessories. Check on the internet for the type required. Happy travels
