This is an old Venetian style hotel located on the Grand Canal, entrance to the hotel is either by boat or if on foot in the alley ways. It's a 10 minute walk to the Rialto bridge and a 20 minute walk to the railway station ( if you can find your way ) We found walking around town very...

Hotel is ideally placed to walk all over Venice as we did, When you arrive at San Stea, follow the hotel map and you will find the hotel very easily. We booked a canal view room, which was spacious and clean. We were in Venice for the 1st weekend of the carnival, we decided to enjoy the experience wearing a...

This was our least favourite hotel during our holiday out of 4.The location is pretty good right on the Grande Canal. The main attractions are a 15 minute walk away. The room itself was on the ground floor next to the check in desk. It felt strange being there and also our room was above the main steps to the...

Booked into the San Cassiano for the February Half Term holidays with the kids. This is a Venetian hotel packed with character and very well located. Swanking with all the mod cons it is not but it is full of charm with a personal touch and enables one to feel fully absorbed by the beauty and history of this beautiful...

Hotel is brilliantly situated in the heart of Venice. In the region Santa Croce. You can walk from there in every region of the city: Can Naregio, San Polo, San Marco and Dorsoduro. The building is beautiful and that's why I scored two instead of one point. In the first evening when I arrived with my daughter the concierge allocated...

Loved the ambiance in this hotel, it was lovely. Beautiful paintings, tapestries, Murano glass, ornate furniture. The first floor is gorgeous with a nice welcoming patio out front. You enter to a large and ornate reception area that extends out to the Grand Canal. There's a small bar and just beyond that, a reading room with carved wood game table....

Stayed 3 nights in this hotel last week on my first visit to Venice. We arrived Venice S.Lucia train station and got a vaporetto(water bus)from Dock E in front of the station and got down at San Stae station, which is just 3 stops from the station. It was a challenge to find the hotel. If you are new to Venice, the maze of alleyways...

Pros: Nice, quiet location but close to vaparetto and shops across the canal Terrace overlooking canal Reasonable prices in bar Cons: Breakfast ok but could be better Breakfast room too narrow and cramped and very busy after 9am (balcony outside which would be nice in the summer)

We thoroughly enjoyed our four nite stay in this historic hotel in late November 2016. It is situated on the Grand Canal. We didn't pay for a view of the Grand Canal but got a room overlooking a side canal. Really cool to hear the water lapping at the sides of the building at night - very restful. The staff...

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
