A nice hotel in a great location with a view over the city close to San Marco square. Rooms are a bit small (as expected in Venice), but comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was good.

The Hotel Montecarlo is an authentic old fashioned hotel that still uses keys instead of swipe cards to enter your room. We booked the apartment which has 2 bedrooms but can have 3 with use of a sofa bed. The apartment is located about 50 metres from the main hotel, short walk from St Marks Square, and is fully self...

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Loved the free Murano trip and tour. The apartment was very comfortable and in the heart of the city. The apartment has 2 bedrooms as we were a family of 3 it suited us well. We enjoyed our stay at the Monte Carlo and would love to stay there again.

We had a great time in this petit hotel. The staff was friendly and cooperative and the room, though a bit small, was nice, clean and beautifully decorated. The best thing about it is the location, just a block from the Piazza San Marco.

We loved the convenient location of the hotel. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the daily teatime with a large variety of teas and snacks. The free breakfast was a plus and the free wi-fi was fast. The room could be fairly noisy at times but I enjoyed looking out the window and watching the activity below.

Venice is full of hotels, many with tiny rooms, tinier bathrooms (with microscopic shower stalls), surly staff and poor Wi-Fi. Best Western Montecarlo is none of the above. It's location is just a few steps from Venice's prime attraction - Piazza San Marco. Despite being in such a busy, crowded location, it's on a relatively quiet street. (It may have...

Lovely hotel just a couple of blocks back from San Marco. Very friendly staff, good breakfast and large rooms with new bathrooms. Felt like we were in the heart of Venice and yet it was very quiet as we were away from the crowds. They also organise a free taxi boat shuttle to Murano to see the glass factory. No...

We discovered that we would be arriving in Venice an additional night ahead of our 9 day tour of Italy. No reason to panic. We booked a room at the Montecarlo for a very reasonable price and we were not disappointed. The room was very spacious for an older hotel, and immaculate. Very comfortable. We arrived after dark and unfamiliar...

Our holiday was perfect, we were given a room on the 4th floor with a nice size shower with full amenities. Breakfast the usual European style. Wonderful and friendly staff. They arranged a free tour for us to go the Murano island. Overall a satisfactory stay.

It was perfect for a solo traveler. The room was cozy, very well appointed, and clean. They have complete set if toiletries, shampoo, conditioners, shower gel, shower cap, lotion, and they have nice quality towels. It has the best location, two minutes to Piazza San Marco and six minutes to Rialto Bridge but it is located in a small alley...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
