Firstly, the two women at reception were absolutely delightful and very helpful. One of them called me the day I was arriving to make sure I could find the hotel, and she let me check in early for free (I requested this prior to arrival). The other receptionist helped me carry my luggage down the stairs, which I appreciated. The...

My husband and I happened upon this little gem while searching for a spot to stay in Venice prior to a cruise. We arrived on an overnight train @ 6am. We were at the door to AL Lion Morosini before 8am. The lovely women at the desk was very helpful. She highlighted on a map all the spots we hoped...

We were really comfortable in our room and the location was beautiful with a dock that goes out onto the Grand Canal, a lovely spot to end the evening or watch the sunset, and in close proximity to all the sights. It's a little old-fashioned but you can kind of say that's part of the charm. Our room (room 10)...

The location of this b&b could not be better. Right in the centre of everything yet off the main drags through a few back alleys and right on the grand canal. You can see the rialto bridge from some rooms. Really old style place. Breakfast was great, what you would expect in Italy. The only reason I didn't rate it...

I didn't stay in the B&B just the bar downstairs. Very old fashion and charming venetian decoration. They even have an old coffee machine. You can enjoy a great view of the Grand Canal from the small quay in front of it with amazing drinks. Friendly and quick service. Perfect for sunny days. I am definitely coming back!

Absolutely adorable owner. She made the croissants every morning. She served them just like your grandma would. The place reminded me of my grandma's farm growing up. The smell and the atmosphere. The bathroom was incredibly hard to work with but it's an old old building. The stairs are hard with luggage. Again old building. The floor is uneven. Old...

I traveled to Venice with my family this past summer and we were delightful with our stay here. My parents shared one room, while my two younger sisters (18 and 15) and I shared room. We took the water taxi to the Rialto Bridge, and tried to navigate the rainy corridors of the historic city to our hotel. While finding...

While not the most modern B & B is is very clean and comfortable. Located down a lane it is a bit difficult to find but once you get your bearing it is in a great location. A bargain price to allow you to stay in the heart of Venice.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
