You have to stay here! Its right on the Grand Canal, ideal for a gondola ride or a trip to San Marco by water bus. Restaurants and cafes by the score within a short walk and only 5 minutes from Roma square. Ideal hotel from which to explore Venice which is a truly magical city! The hotel itself, as well...

The hotel was great, nothing too fancy but a great location for exploring Venice and a lovely roof top bar for evening drinks. I would recommend this as a place to stay to anyone. The breakfast is ok.....the nice things are chargeable on top of the buffet which was a bit of a disappointment but can't really complain much. Staff...

Have just returned from a long weekend in Venetia.Stayed at the Carlton and the Hotel is absolutely brilliant. The room and room staff are excellent as are the waiting staff in the breakfast room. The only fault we did find was that if some of the reception staff could smile as much as the restaurant staff it would make for a more...

We stayed at Hotel Carlton for 3 nights during our honeymoon. Check-in was easy, especially considering out Italian is fairly non-existent. All of the staff spoke fluent English and were very accommodating. The concierge gave us a map and marked the water taxi stops to use to see the main site seeing locations. Definitely do the all day water taxi...

We recently visited venice staying at the Carlton hotel, the hotel is very clean and the rooms are decorated in a traditional Venetian style, the location is ideal, and the area is quiet in the evenings. The breakfasts are good with a wide selection of continental and cooked food, all buffet style. I would definitely stay here again.

My husband treated me to a romantic weekend in Venice and we stayed at the hotel Carlton. It was in a great location within walking distance of st marks square the Rialto bridge and the gondolas. The hotel was clean and the staff friendly. It is a bit old but very classic and Venetian. We loved it. I would definitely...

This is not a cheap hotel at €396 a night b&b We had room 312 which overlooks the Grand Canal. You would not sleep here if you were a light sleeper as the canal is busy with vaparetti etc and if the windows are open you can hear the announcements from the station on the opposite bank of the canal....

We stayed here for two nights at the end of our trip and did not enjoy it. Firstly, we booked a "patio room" upgrade - which actually means shared interior courtyard. Not worth the extra money for that, and definitely was not described accurately. Secondly, the bed was two small beds pushed together & the sheets were even two singles...

We moved one suitcase around the floor for 5 days as there was nowhere to store it, the bedrooms were very small, we had upgraded to a canal view room, the constant generator noise and vibration from the water buses throughout the day was dreadful, literally like staying at the side of a dual carriageway. The breakfast was limited and...

My 3rd visit and this magnificent city leaves wanting more. My husband's first and Carlton you made it memorable for both of us. The olde world charm of this Venetian hotel was lovely. The staff were wonderful and looked after us even though they were booked solidly with tour groups we felt special. The restaurant and roof terrace were our...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
