We are a mature aged couple and found the hotel centrally located with helpful staff. The hotel had a lovely european feel which we appreciated after coming from Australia. The breakfast was excellent with real coffee being offered. We felt most secure and this hotel would be excellent for the women traveller. We look forward to returning to this hotel.

Hotel is easy to find- just a few steps from the vaparetto stop. We stayed in the junior suite just to have some extra room and it was great! Wish we could have stayed longer!

The staff was warm, accommodating and professional. Rate was great (off season and discount with cash and mention of Rick Steve's travel guide) I recommend a room towards the back because our room in the front was above the front iron door which you could hear shutting when people came in and out, and people talking. Also, someone was smoking...

We spent two nights in the junior suite on the top floor, with lovely little terrace looking over the rooftops. Well worth the few extra dollars for that space - it was very large. Top notch location near everything, but in a quiet little square. Good breakfasts included. Helpful front desk. Compared to what I have heard from many travelers...

We spent three nights in Hotel Campiello in one of their adjacent apartments which had been totally renovated. All marble bath with wall dividers between the bedroom, kitchen, and living room. We ate breakfast around the corner in the main hotel and it was very good. The hotel also gave us a very good cash rate and were very accommodating...

I've been a long-time fan of Hotel Campiello. Not only its excellent position (two steps from Saint Mark's square, and next to the boat stop), but the friendness of the staff, the optimal quality-price value, and the tidiness of the room make it a perfect choice. I forgot once my blackberry under the pillow (it had the alarm clock in...

Ideal location! Hotel is less than 100 yards form the San Zaccariah Allilaguna stop. Very close to St Mark's Square. Very convenient to vaparetto. Very nice Staff. Our regular double room was bigger than most doubles we've stayed in in Europe. Our room was right next to elevator, but our room was extremely quiet. It was really amazingly quiet at...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
