San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.

What a special place to stay. Run by such a lovely family and nothing was too much trouble. Delicious breakfast, so central and very comfortable rooms. Typically Italian and very comfortable right in the middle of Venice.

Transport to this hotel
Transport to this hotel I took a private water taxi that found me (reserved in advance) at airport and took me to Boat ‘landing’ nearest Hotel Flora... the Boat driver called ahead to the Hotel and had a ‘bellman’ meet us at the boat and walked our luggage and US bothti the HOTEL! It was not cheap, but worth every penny... after a 15 hour flight in a place with no roads, bikes , scooters or anything it was the only way... no way I ever would have had such an easy QUICK and trouble free ecpirience getting to HOTEL FLORA without it! ...ALSO... the front desk is very helpful and can arrange water taxis for you to Airport and Cruise Ships and Mursno ,Burano islands etc.. The public water buses were another experience... I don’t regret getting stuck on them and the experience, but.... horrendously crowded overloaded boats... really not safe

For our last two visits to the Hotel Flora we have used the water taxi and found it to be well worth the money. We contact the hotel in advance and they have somebody waiting for us at the airport who then takes our bags to a shuttle which is a short ride (but MUCH appreciated after the LONG trip from AZ!) to the pier where the water taxi awaits us. You pay the driver of the water taxi directly and the ride is MAGNIFICENT! Speedy, relaxing and what a way to enter Venice especially as you get closer and pass St. Mark's Square with the pillars and lions atop them. For us it's like coming home! Since the hotel has arranged it for us, the porter is waiting for us to take the bags to the hotel...how easy is that! And then we do the reverse going home, no matter how early is our flight. IMHO, this is the ONLY way to go, having taken the Alilaguna on our first trip and lugged our suitcases over the steps, bridges and around the tourists...never again! Maybe if you're 20...we're NOT!

Hi Samia, there is a generous offer of delicious cheese ,meat and all kinds of eggdishes. I am also more on the salty side in the morning and was completely happy with the breakfastmenue. Concerning the exact breakfast hours I am not certain,it was perfect for me anyway, but I suggest you ask the hotelstaff. All of them are most helpful and If you decide to travel to Venice you cant find a more charming and cosy hotel. Warm regards Sis

Take the train from Paris to Venezia Santa Lucia. There are three ways to get to Hotel Flora from the train station. Walking is about 35-40 minutes, but if you have heavy bags, there are many bridges to cross and it will be difficult. Private Water Taxi - but it is expensive. The easiest and least expensive way to get to the hotel, if you have heavy bags, is to take the Vaporetto. Walk out of Stazione S. Lucia, and you will see Vaporetto stations on the canal. Buy a ticket at the kiosks and take the Number 1 to the Giglio stop. Hotel Flora is a 5 minute walk from the Giglio stop - over one small bridge. The Number 1 Vaporetto is usually crowded, as it is the most popular Vaporetto Line, but you get views of all of the palaces on the Grand Canal and it is beautiful! Stand by the doors on the edge of the boat for the best views!
