When we here last we did not notice the 32 steps up to reception, now in our70s we sure noticed them this time, especially dragging our bags. We arrived early around 10 but we had a room by 11 and were able to catch up on sleep. While waiting we were given coffee and rolls. The hotel has 22 rooms,...

The location just near St Marks square is the biggest draw card of this accomodation. It was a great base for us but it does have some draw backs, no lift so you are lugging your luggage up several flights of steps. Rooms are basic but comfortable, water takes a lengthy time to get warm in the shower but it...

I had a great stay here for 3 nights. Booked a single room but the room I got was spacious (double bed) and very comfortable. The location is right in the centre of the city (very near to Rialto Bridge) so you really have no problem to explore Venice by foot. They offered some simple breakfast every morning which I...

Arrived at the hotel confronted by a narrow staircase. Not such a problem just a bit of a lug with the suitcase. Older gentleman greeted me. Friendly and to the point. Shown to my room. Facilities OK but basic. Relatively clean. Bed OK on a comfort level. Returned in the evening after a day out to be confronted by the...

Horrible rooms, staff was rude, the place was dirty, the rooms weren't like the pictures at all. I would never come here on vacation again. Us 4 girls were pretty sad about it. The location was also ok

First of all, when I arrived the receptionist said that my booking for 2 nights didn't appear (even though I confirmed my booking one day previous to the arrival) and they were fully booked. I booked a room two months in advance by calling to the hotel and confirmed it by email. The receptionist started calling neighbouring hotels to search...

We chose this hotel because of other reviews. It did not disappoint. The room was comfortable, clean and air conditioned. They charge for wifi by the hour and the paid time must be used by only one device----not your laptop and phone or mini-pad, for example. One English speaking channel is available on their cable subscription. There are no elevators,...

I heartily recommend this hotel, as a wonderful location, and a perfect way to explore Venice. I read a few reviews, complaining about the 'Continental Breakfast'. What the heck do you expect for the price. The continental breakfast was fresh, and wonderful. Coffee or espresso, made to order. Croissants, and fresh bread rolls, jam and butter. I am going to...

Friendly staff, central location to explore from, good if you just want to put your head down and get out during the day. Wifi not free, but plenty of cafe locations to use when you get drinks/food. Continental breakfast handy to start the day with.

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
