Excellent directions from a previous review ( Lorre) meant we found the hotel quite easily. Superior room was quite spacious and the jacuzzi bath was most welcome after a long days sightseeing. Decor quite dated but staff were pleasant and breakfast was adequate. Hotel is situated in the heart of the tourist area with a few good restaurants close by.

Wonderful 4 nights at the hotel! It is in the perfect location, less than 10 minute walk to both St Marks Square and the Rialoto Bridge. All amenities thought of, hotel room was a little small but we were only there to change and sleep! Jacuzzi bath a huge plus and free wifi in the room was very good. Only...

The entrance is a door in a corner on a enclosed street. The front desk is small and right inside the door. To the left is a flight of stairs and to the right the single elevator. The staff was very friendly and efficient. No modern entry systems here. Just an old fashioned key on a clunky key chain. You...

I was a bit concerned about this hotel having read several negative reviews but it turned to to be OK. It is a small hotel, well located but a bit difficult to find. The rooms are not huge but, unless you are prepared to spend a fortune, you are not going to get huge rooms in Venice. The rooms were...

A bit difficult to find but excellent location right behind the amazing San Marco square. Our room was at the first floor, with a view on a small square. The set up is nice, well equipped with A.C, a fridge, a safe and a beautiful bathroom with a jacuzzi! The personnel is very nice and Nassir, at night, helped us...

Visited this hotel with my family for 3 nights in July 2016. Ok hotel, but wouldn't go there again. A bit impersonal, hoped for nicer service. + location (if you prefer to be close to main turist attractions) + free wifi + air condition - service a bit cold and impersonal (especially in the breakfast room) - uncomfartable bed

The reviews worried me a bit about this hotel, but the location was great and the price was in our budget, so I took a leap of faith. Thankfully, my faith paid off. This was a quiet, small hotel with rooms that were larger than expected and a staff that offered wonderful suggestions for restaurants and gondola rides. They also...

We had looked at the reviews before we went and it had a mixed review. In my eyes some off them incorrect. Finding the hotel not as bad as some people make out, walked through the clock tower about 200 yards third turning on the right you see the church you can go either way around it and there it...

After a wonderful stay in a budget-mid priced hotel in Milan, I found the Hotel Citta de Milano disappointing. The rooms are small with limited closet space. Our bathroom had a shower that was smaller than a phone booth (remember those?) Our room #335 had an odd lock that required the use of the key from the inside! If you...

I was worried about coming to the hotel after reading reviews. I informed the hotel about our late arrival in the evening and they said it would be no issue as there was a night porter around - which there was and he was very welcoming to us. He also gave us a map of the city. I can see...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
