Neighbourhood
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

Mt husband and I spent 5 nights in this hotel. Fairly easy to find from the vaporetto stop. Great location with plenty of shops nearby. We paid extra for the canal view room, which was worth every penny. I loved being able to people watch from my room, but I will warn that it

We just finished 3 nights at this hotel. We were staying in Room 2 around the back of the hotel. In a stroke of amazing luck, this room seems to be the only one with a balcony, which had terrific views on the canal. I could have spent the whole time just watching the boats go by

We booked three nights based on the photograph in the advert...No NO No.! The room we had was at the rear of the hotel up one flight of stairs which we were ok with but the floors are tiled and the walls are hard and so all noise echoes. We were in room 1 which, as advertised,

While the hotel is no five star hotel it non the less met our needs quite adequately in a triple room. The room was secure, air-conditioned and clean. The front desk staff were very helpful in particular a young man named, Adriano was a pleasure to deal with answering our many

The friendly reception guy put us in a canal view room, which he seemed to decide to do on second though, perhaps as we were staying 2 nights. we appreciated this as looking out on the canal was great. It was very hot in Venice, and we'd walked about 25 minutes from the train

Very central. Great location though I wasn't overwhelmed by the actual hotel. You can easily walk to the Rialto, St Marks Square etc.

Hi can you please tell me if you stayed in a superior room in the main building or the annex? I am trying to see which room is bigger and has a better view as there are 4 of us? Thankyou

Hi we stayed in the annex, it was a lovely venitian room, there aren't really any views as it is so central, but you don't want to be spending time in the room, get out and about. The hotel style was gorgeous, we would go again.

Yes you can. Nervously, we left our luggage in the corridor while we explored Venice. On returning it was in our room waiting for us.

The only useful one is the stair lift in the bedroom at the back overlooking the canal. I can't believe some of the huge hotels on the sea front don't have a lift - the hotels boast five star status, but they are in a perfect location for some of the best sights. Beware, Venice is a city of steps and narrow passageways, but how wonderful a place it is!!

"ask for a canal view room"
"I cannot help you on that one, maybe check that they are not overbooked..."
"Ask if you are staying in the hotel itself or in the annexe"
"Canal view is good but get out and explore"
"Higher floors away from the square would be quieter."
