We came here to see the Opera la Traviata and we were just adjacent to theatre. An unpretentious hotel, clean and sunny rooms, friendly staff, the waitress also kindly helped me to sew a button of the jacket that had come off. Thanks again. We'll back soon

This small hotel is located in the heart of venice and is runned by a really nice and professional family. Just behind the theatre LA FENICE, 5 mins by walk from San Marco's square. The room is kinda old but with a renewed bathroom. The hotel was not worth the price since we paid more than 150€ per night (... More

In a strange building, with cannons and cannon balls embedded in the main facade, small room but to our surprise overlooking the canal where the gondolas passing by. A bit old but clean, friendly staff, walking distance from the historic center. No wifi in the room but only in the entrance hall. Normal breakfast, for the price paid is ok.

Modest but a few minutes walk from Piazza San Marco. Unfortunately it did not lift, we climbed to the second floor via a staircase with red carpet. Room a little small but with a canal view .... classic 2 star unpretentious. We will be back.

If you are looking for a budget hotel, choose this hotel. The room is very small, the hotel itself needs more lights to make it bright. Since we only need a room to sleep this hotel is ok for us. The location is about 20 minutes from San Marco.

My husband and I were in room 11, although the paint and wall paper were peeling a little, on the plus side the room was large enough for our luggage and the bathroom opened up onto the internal hallway. We viewed a brighter room, overlooking the canal, but there was hardly any space for luggage and the bathroom door was... More

This was the hotel my son and gf had to stay in because Hotel Locanda Antica, the one we payed for, had broken plumbing. Very scary area neat the Phoenix Theater. This is a mosquito infested place with blood spatters all over the walls, no air, community bathroom, rude staff. NASTY, DNR = Do Not Return. This is a scam in Venice!

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
