The room we stayed in was very nice. It was extremely clean and had all the facilities we needed (kettle, microwave, safe). The couple that owns the B&B was lovely, though the wife didn't speak any English and was extremely hard to communicate with. If we had any important questions or requests we waited for the husband to come home...

Upon departing train station and strolling excitedly along the busy street mingling with the tourists. Passing loads of delightful hotels I was apprehensive but full of wonder. You could imagine my disappointment when I discovered a shiny black door with a tiny sign displaying the name of the hotel. My sister was amazed and stared at me bewildered, we hesitantly...

The room was beautiful and gave you a real feel of Venice. The room had a lot of facilities and was very nicely decorated. Very clean and the staff were really nice. It was in a great location and only a 5 minute walk from the train station!

Fairly average in average location about 30 minute walk from main attractions. I am Australian and their communicating skills in English were nigh impossible. Unfortunately stupid me left my new expensive mobile phone in the room which I did not discover until I returned to France. I have telephoned several times and emailed twice regarding the phone and have not...

If you want a friendly host, clean room, great location and good en-suite facilities then this is your place! We were welcomed by a great host and his wife who were extremely welcoming and made us feel right at home. For 85 Euros a night it could be considered expensive until you consider the fact that you are in the...

A B&B like this elsewhere would be much cheaper, but it's Venice...The owner is friendly and the room has everything you need. The noise from the square is quite loud, especially if you want to go to sleep early. Hot water in the shower is hit or miss, kind of comes in spurts. Breakfast is no good, you can take...

Clean, nice and in great location. We only had some problem with finding the address before we go there, but finally checked the hostel's website and it was correct and informative. The host speaks English but his wife doesn't. However, don't panic, she is very nice and understanding, and will help you with everything. She also cleans the room everyday...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
