We stayed here for 4 nights in November. The hotel is beautiful. We got Junior Suite Gonzaga overlooking the Grand Canal. The room was awesome. Huge, comfortable and quiet. Lots of closet space and a mini fridge. It was grand. The bathroom was average size, but the shower was a little small and the shower head was clogged because it... More

This hotel is a perfect place to stay when visiting Venice.. location is great, just off the Ca d Or vaporetto stop, and within easy walking distance of all the attractions of Venice. The staff are warm and welcoming, breakfast is fabulous, with lots to choose to fuel you up for the day. My only gripe was a tired bathroom... More

We have been to Venice before and it was our last stop for our cruise so we booked one night. Foscari Palace was one of a short list of hotels that was ON the Grand canal and offered a one night stay. We have no problem spending extra for a canal facing room because that is what Venice is about,... More

We had a lovely stay in Venice and at the Foscari Palace. Very well-situated hotel, right on the Grand Canal and within about 10 minutes walk of all the major sights. The balcony from the bar area over the canal was perfect for a glass of wine, and the roof terrace had fabulous views over the city and canal. Our... More

Excellent hotel in perfect central location next to the Grand Canal and next to the Gondola Station and ferry. Ideally located close to the Ca Doro Vaporetto stop which gave us easy access around Venice. Hotel staff were very friendly and welcoming. We loved the view over the Grand Canal from our 2nd floor suite also loved the view from... More

There were no directions to hotel on website, but I emailed staff and they emailed back right away with specifics on options to get there from train station. i would've liked... More

The location is excellent. Just catch the no. 1 vaporetto from the train station or piazza roma to Ca d Oro. Walk up to the Main Street, turn right and in one block, turn right and you are there. The hotel is clean and quiet. The staff are friendly if you are friendly to them. The rooms are large and the... More

Situated on the Grand Canal, adjacent to a gondola station which runs across the market on the opposite side of the canal, this hotel is ideally placed, geographically, for exploring Venice. The Rialto bridge is a 15 minute walk on one direction, whilst Ca' D'oro vaporetto is 2 minutes away in the other and Fondemente nova is a 10 minute... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

“I would recommend the Junior Suite Gonzago on the 2nd floor with 2 small balconies overlooking the Grand Canal. The suite met all our expectations and was perfect for the brilliant view which enabled my wife and I to enjoy watching all the hustle and bustle of the Grand Canal.”

“Don't expect a view of the Grand Canal in the normal rooms. They are at a premium. However some of the side rooms have small balconies and you can get some view from them. ”
