I booked the room about 6 weeks in advance and I booked one without the shower in the room, to save money. It was only for 1 night anyway. Boy, was I disgusted when we got there! The reception area was tiny, and the room was on the 2nd floor with no elevator! Tired, after traveling for the past 8...

Met Bruno at the train station right in front of the tourist info booth. He was very nice, spoke perfect English and took us to the hotel. Got us a great rate of 60 Euros with a very nice buffet breakfast. Yes I said he walked us to the hotel and along the way pointed out the best places to...

Don't expect any luxury, but if you are looking for a cheap and basic hotel with a central location in Venice, I strongly recommend this hotel. Here are some positive and negative aspects we experienced in this hotel: Positive: - Cheap: We paid € 25 pppn for a double room with shared bathroom: the cheapest we could find in the...

We enjoyed staying in this small, clean and affordabel hotel. We didn't partake of any food in this establishment as there are many restaurants and quick food establishments closeby. Nothing fancy here, shared bath was very adequate and hotel was clean. If you want a place to stay, close to train station and affordable without all the unnecessary ammenities, this...

Stayed at the Minerva for 2 nights, I picked the hotel mainly because of the price and the location,, near to the station and Piazzale Roma. When i first arrived I thought " My Gosh what have I come to " The receptionist seemed very abrupt and had a gang of friends around her laughing and joking. She hardly took...

We had the hardest time finding an affordable place that seemed decent in Venice, and finally decided on the Hotel Minerva. It was a reasonable price and had a great location for us. It's close to the train station and Piazzale Roma (where you leave by bus or to get to the airports), which was great as we didn't have...

Arriving in the Santa Lucia station after an all day train ride through the Alps I had not arranged a room for the night and was approached by a respectable looking agent asking if I was looking for a place to stay. Being too exhausted to look around the city myself, I accepted his offer and he took me directly...

I have stayed 2 nights in this hotel that really was more a hostel. Lots of drunk teenagers very noisy until 4 am. I couldnt even have breakfast the next morning as they were staying in the restaurant , hungover, and eating at a very slow pace. The location is great however but yes, noisy at night. My single room...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
