Cannot comment on the main premises, but they were full when we arrived, so Margaret showed us to their pallazzo. A just amazing stay, balconies over-looking the water, double volume ceilings, furnished in lavish antique style. Full kitchen facilities. A fabulous stay. It's a convenient 10 minute walk from the station, but it's more like 20 to St Mark's piazza.

Had a reasonable stay here (albeit in a very hard bed!) but they're stingy as anything; upon arriving we had to pay an extra €27 for air conditioning (an expense we weren't expecting to pay as it was detailed in a list of general 'facilities' on the website) which we were glad of in the end but would've appreciated knowing... This place is a series of apartments and rooms; we had what was essentially a studio apartment with private entrance and en suite bath. The room was very nice, spacious, seemed to be recently renovated with modern decor, and had an actual queen bed (not two twin beds pushed together like we found in other hotels in Italy!). There were... More

Ca Cotre is a small residential house in the centre of Venice. It's a two bedroom house which has been converted into guest rooms. The owner is fab, nbreakfast is provided, but he pretty much leaves you too organise yourself. Its extremely cheap and has a pleasant look inside. Definetly worth checking out. Word of warning don't confuse with Ca... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
