This was my second stay at Eleonora’s wonderful B&B. It is very comfortable, attractive, and clean. The rooms are lovely and I have now stayed in two different ones – the pink and the green rooms; both excellent. The B&B is also up to date technologically and uses plastic key cards, which look like a credit card, to open doors...

My wife and I spent three nights at Al Teatro. Great location, conveniently in between Rialto Bridge and St. Mark's, but still very quiet. Wonderful old home, in which our host Eleonora grew up. Fresco on dining room ceiling is older than United States. Still with everything we expected in top flight bed and breakfast. Eleonora was very helpful. Great...

I stayed here with my family in March of 2016 and we really loved our rooms. The location is within easy walking distance of Piazza San Marcos. Our room had a small balcony overlooking the canal. The owner put out a great spread for breakfast each morning. She is an excellent source of information before you head out each day.

We had the pleasure of staying here for six nights in December. The place was easy to find from the waterbus with the instructions given and eleonora was waiting for us. We had the amber room which was very large with French windows onto a balcony overlooking the canals. Location was great, central and close to everything but off the...

We were so fortunate to be able to stay here, as they are usually booked months in advance. My mother, sister & I stayed in the Amber room, with a lovely balcony overlooking the canal. Much gondala traffic and singing just below, it was delightful! The room was very well appointed with lovely sheets and bedcovers. The best part of...

I loved staying at B&B Al Teatro. The location was wonderful, off quiet uncrowded Giglio Square yet still close to Piazza San Marcos, the Giglio vaporetto stop, and other major sites. After exploring, I loved sitting in my sunlit room, with beautiful “terrazzo veneziano” floors, watching the passing gondolas and boat traffic, listening to music and singing rising from the...

We were so fortunate to stay with Eleanora. Unknown to us San Marco square was flooded due to high tide and rains and she outfitted us with boots so we could sightsee despite the conditions. She also made great suggestions on what to see outside the high tourist areas and great restaurants. The room itself had a great view and...

This bed & breakfast is comfortable, quiet, and lovely. The location is great and really convenient. Vaporeto stop on the Grand Canal is nearby. Gelato is also nearby, as are good restaurants. Host is gracious with lots of good information. Our room looked right out on a popular gondola route so the view of gondolas going by (with frequent evening...

We stayed two nights with Eleanora. We had the Amber room which was clean and offered a lovely view of the canals with gondolas going by. Allowed us walk most places with a little use of the vaporettos. Cappuccinos were great but breakfast was simply okay. We would recommend for those wanting to stay further from very touristy areas near...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
