My Husband, sisteen year old daughter and I stayed in the historic and family owned palazzo for five days in December. We received a reccomendation from some dear friends, and did not check with trip advisor etc. We had a marvelous time at Palazzo Dal Carlo, and now having read the trip advisor reviews wish to clarify things from our...

Roberta dal Carlo, and her husband John, are generous, friendly and very attentive hosts. We had a very positive impression of the Palazzo dal Carlo when we first saw it mentioned in a couple of guides (TimeOut, etc.) and that impression was fortified by the friendly reception we received when we called to inquire about availability during out visit in...

We took a chance on renting this b+b because it had had such lovely write ups in various magazines and was such a good price ( 150 euros per night as opposed to 220 euros per night at even the lowliest hotel). Also we were 3 couples travelling together and knew we would have the place to ourselves. However, as...

We stayed four nights in the palazzo dal carlo (b and b) in a great residential location (Dorsodouro), at a reasonable cost, especially for Venice. The bedroom was beautifully appointed with a marble bathroom, and our breakfasts in a lovely room overlooking a small canal were excellent. Our hostess Roberta, was so hospitable and helpful , and even booked us...

Palazzo dal Carlo is a B&B, not a hotel, and service, personal stuff in the rooms etc. should be judged from that point of view. We found our room (which was not the one on the top floor) very beautiful and quiet, and also very clean. The only setback was that the door was not soundproof, and the other guests...

We just returned from the Palazzo DalCarlo and were very disappointed. We were travelling with our two children so we were given a "mini-apartment" on the top floor adjacent to the terrace. It was a little creepy because the rooms and bathroom were filled with someone's (the owners?) personal effects (inclucing toiletries, clothes etc.) Also there was very dirty carpeting...

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
