I stayed at this hotel a month ago and my experience was absolutely terrible. We checked in late, around 10 at night, and the concierge was extremely rude and did not even welcome us. He took us to the elevator and told us the room...More
I took my mum to Carnival and we stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. The hotel is in a fantastic spot just a few minutes walk from St Marks Square and really close to a Vaporetto stop which made getting around super easy. There...More
We travelled to Venice from Rome by train and buying a basic map after disembarking at Venice train station, we eventually found this hotel (having lost GPS totally at times) which only has a doorway frontage and can be easily missed.
We buzzed the intercom...More
Just one night in Venice but loved this hotel! First, it’s a very easy walk from the San Zaccaria vaporetto station. Short and not on streets that entirely full of other tourists.. and easy to find (not always the case in Venice)! Note that you...More

Italy > Veneto > Province of Venice > City of Venice > Venice > Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a
strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.

Whatever hotel you are chosing, No cars are admitted in Venice. It is possible to leave the car in the parkings around piazzale Roma or I'll Tronchetto (fee around 25/30 euros per day). Otherwise you can save some money by parking in Mestre (the fee is around 16 euros per day) and from there you can reach Venice by train (few mins, trains every 5 mins). This does not depend on the Locandiera but it is a general statement regarding the wonderful city of Venice.
