I was hoping for simple and full of character, being a converted monastery, but there was none of that. Rooms were very cold in August. When I asked for a blanket, I was told there weren't any. Bed was very small and bedding was minimal - a sheet only. The bedside lamp was broken. Staff weren't overly friendly. Decent enough...

Stayed there 3 nights while at a conference and highly recommend it. It is by no means a luxury hotel, but given the price is an excellent accommodation. The building used to be a convent, and it has a very peaceful feel with rooms surrounding a courtyard. Rooms are small, and spartan, but comfortable. Breakfast was more than adequate and...

I lodve the location so close to many attractions. But I think I got one of the worst rooms, (s single) in the place. It's a converted convent so I booked because I thought it would be charming. But alas, except for half of the courtyard, it had not only been de-charmed, parts of it had been uglified. My room...

Enjoyed my 2-night stay at Domus Ciliota, rooms were spacious and clean. Limited plug points for charging devices but that's the only issue I encountered. Staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast in the courtyard was great. Don't make the mistake we did and jump off at the wrong stop, this wrong move made getting there a nightmare *heavy luggage...

No matter which way you come to Venice, be it plane (my way this time), train or car, its easy to get to this hotel. It’s located few minutes away from Academia. From here one can start exploring Venice easily, whatever direction. It would be difficult to get lost (which happened to me when stayed elsewhere). Place has no thrills...

The position of this hotel was excellent, just 5 minutes from San Samuele waterbus stop. The staff were wonderful- patient, knowledgeable, thoughtful and well informed. They tried to help whenever we had a query. Breakfast was more than adequate- it was possible to have a feast as the empty plates were replenished as soon as they became empty. A selection...

I visited this hotel with friends and we couldn't have chosen a better place to stay. It was within walking distance of all the sights, with a square nearby that had plenty of restaurants and shops. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was included and we chose to eat in the courtyard, with made a lovely start to our...

Great hotel in a quiet area but still close enough to explore the city easily. The staff in the hotel were wonderful, great breakfast, clean room with good air conditioning. Great central position and close to a lovely square offering a variety of restaurants. The water bus was just round the corner.

I also had a very nice morning breakfasts in their patio. The staff was very helpful helping me with a train excursion to Vicenza. The room was very basic but...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
