Steps away from San Marcos square. Right on a canal with pick up and drop off service by water taxi directly to hotel door (60-70 euro from train staion). Gondolas pass right by the open windows on the first level. My wife and daughter and me drank a few bottles of wine just sitting on the step toasting all the...

We stayed here for three nights at the start of our three city tour of Italy. The location is amazing being almost halfway between St Marks Square and the Rialto bridge which makes getting around Venice a breeze. The hotel itself is more of a luxury residence than a normal hotel and doesn't provide breakfast but there are plenty of...

My boyfriend and I stayed for a week (including New Year). The Corte Grimani is by far one of my favourite hotels of all time. The location is fantastic as it is very central (1 minute walk from San Marco) and yet quiet as it is just off a main walkway. Our apartment was huge (large bedroom, separate lounge /...

A very enjoyable 3 night stay in April. The apartments here are huge - separate living room and bedroom. There are cooking and washing facilities available in the room for an extra fee. It was mrs b's birthday during the stay and a free bottle of prosecco was left in the fridge with a lovely note on the day (this...

This apartment is in a great location and is very comfortable. We were able to stay comfortably with our three young children. Another bonus, is the washer/dryer in the unit! The staff was wonderful and we especially appreciated the restaurant suggestions of Guido at the front desk. Were looking for authentic, casual, good food and he directed us well to...

We booked three apartments for a midweek winter break in Venice with friends. It could barely have been better. A mistake on one room allocation was rectified immediately and pleasantly with a further apology when we left. Very spacious and contemporary but with a traditional Venetian feel, exposed beams and canal views with it's own gondola landing! A little short...

The hotel is very nice. The rooms are apartments really with a sitting room and a bedroom, and bathroom of course!. The apartment are (very) spacious and clean. I liked it. I certainly would reserve again if I go back to Venice. The staff is very attentive. Always willing to help and explain. It is not a luxurious hotel with...

We stayed 2 nights at the Residence Corte Grimani. This hotel is in an excellent location walking distance to everything and the staff helpful. Our apartment had one very large double room with a large sofa bed in the large lounge area. There were 2 bathrooms. There was a kitchenette but we didn't use it for our short stay. Double...

We arrived by train and as there were 5 of us plus luggage we decided not to spend hundred of euros on water taxis but took the vaporetto and walked instead. The hotel is not easy to find but we had great directions given to us by the hotel and found it first go. It is literally about 500 metres...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
