A stunning hotel backing onto the Grand Canal - beautiful room full of Starck fittings (we had the Junior Suite Plus) with terrace overlooking the rooftops. This place is ultra-cool especially the main bar and dining area with open kitchen, all with funky seating and beautiful pieces of Murano glassware dotted around the hotel. Very friendly staff all made us...

The hotel is quite modern and cool looking. I thought it was a bit expensive for what it was. At that time you could get legendary hotels like the Bauer and Daniele for the same price. But it's to everyone's liking. It's quite well located, if you Danny want to waste money on the private taxi, the jetty stop is...

We had a second floor room facing the rear terrace so no view and hampered privacy, but it was a good sized double, light, bright and a beautiful bedroom and bathroom. A fabulous wardrobe exterior contained a stunning fitted bar with all the mod cons you could desire. Having stayed at a very traditional Venetian pension the previous nights this...

Normally go for Aman or Four Seasons style, but given the crazy prices in Venice and the lacklustre reviews of the top hotels thought something slightly more affordable more sensible. This was a sensible option. It was still pricey, despite the cheaper discounted winter rates, compared to the level of upkeep (here more a question of necessary capital expenditure than...

Absolutely loved this place with bells on - excellent location, subzero decor and fabulous dedicated staff. This is a place to come back to. Our room was beautiful and well designed - the main dining room bar has a very interesting and eclectic decor - very Italian. The staff here were all so friendly and helpful making fantastic recommendations and...

Finding a good luxury property in Venice that is not your traditional venetian style is few and far between but this place is exactly that. No offense to anyone who likes it, it's just not my style and this probably isn't the right hotel if you do. Very small boutique hotel, you'll work with a handful of employees for everything...

Great hotel. Very cool decor. Rooms were small and the bathroom sink was strange but otherwise a great stay. We liked the location a lot- away from the super touristy areas but just a short walk away. Overall excellent hotel.

Somehow I have neglected to review this discrete gem located behind the Palazzo Grassi. My wife and I stay here every time we go to Venice and we are never disappointed. The only Philippe Starck designed hotel in Italy, the hotel is both stylish and welcoming. Beautiful rooms, great food, superb service. Breakfast served until 2 PM? Stay there!

Pallazina G was a delight from the moment we stepped off our water taxi onto their landing stage. This is a small, stylish hotel with the emphasis on service and comfort. We found all staff to be welcoming and with excellent spoken English. Stayed in their Executive Plus room which was spacious and very nicely equipped with the bonus of...

We stayed at the Palazzinag for our honeymoon. We arrived by private water taxi to the hotel and the staff were waiting for us with a complimentary drink at the bar. The decor of the hotel is amazing and the hotel room blew us away, I did say I wouldn't want to be the mirror cleaner in that place. There are...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
