My husband, 2 children and I visited venice for 2 nights in august staying at porta orientalis. We stayed in a family room with 2 bedrooms - one with a double bed and one with bunk beds. Whilst the room was compact, it was well designed and actually felt spacious. It was clean, nicely presented and had plenty of self...

Venice can be a bit of a mixed bag and so is this place. Porta Orientalis is not for everyone but I really liked it. It is very well located for transport and seeing Venice, just near Guglie vaporetto stop. Located down a small alley, in the morning as you exit the alley you will have the twin smells of...

I want so badly to give this place a 5/5 Review but I simply can't. The owner was lovely, she was easy to communicate with and she was very helpful. The location of the hotel is quite good (it's a bit hard to find but the owner was kind enough to come greet us by taxi boat stop). It's not...

Location and room was fantastic! We stayed in the Marco Polo studio. Walking distance ( 20 minutes )to Piazza San Marco and also train/bus stations. Heating worked well and water pressure were great. Lovely accommodation to sum it up. One interesting thing which made it inconvenient was the pathway to the alley was flooded with water - happened only in...

Venice is not a cheap place to stay, but this accomodation was reasonably priced, comfy and secure, well equiped with a lovely host who made us feel right at home & most welcome. A short walk from the station, it was relatively easy to find once we found the correct small alley, It is actually in a fabulous location for...

This accommodation is near to the station Santa Lucia and Piazzale Roma. However, it was difficult to find out at first. No clear sign and person! I was confirmed of right place only by a staff of the next hotel, Ca Pozzo. I waited for half an hour to contact the person. After check in, I felt comfortable. Room was...

Although the apartment is not at the prime location, it offers a spacious room and easily reached by the pier - Guglie. The host was so friendly and nice. We had a little problem with difficult door lock and hot shower - but not really a big deal.

porta orientalis is a great apartment in a quiet area in venice. good to stay as all attractions can be reached by foot or water-taxi [guglie station is just where the lane starts] and its away from all the noisy areas. you can reach guglie station from the airport in a water-taxi on orange [arancio] line. tickets are available at...

Hidden in a tiny street (use Google navigate from Google if you arrive by boat). Chiara was there on our arrival and showed us the spacious fully equipped apartment with view on an inside garden (unfortunately belonging to another apartment). Two spacious bedrooms, bathroom with bidet, airco en kitchen with all basics you need. The hot water indeed took some...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
