We stayed in the Mistral for two nights. It was very pleasant to sit in their outdoor area with a drink having come off a late flight. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Our room was clean and spacious. It is close to the airport. There is a lovely restaurant close by called La Pergola and also close to the Maria Pia beach.

It's seldom a hotel delivers exactly what it says in its ads. In this case it does. The hotel is situated on the outskirts of Alghero and is a brisk 20 minute walk on the direct route to the centre. However, with all the beautiful scenery & beaches, you will seldom want to take the direct route. If you are in a rush, you can always take the bus. There is a restaurant a couple of hundred yards on the road back towards the airport but, more importantly, there is a handy snack bar when you turn left at the beach. Toasted rolls & coffee latte (ask for it in a tall glass) are about 4€. If you are the kind of person who likes to relax late on in the bar after a hard day holidaying (and Bruno is on night duty in the hotel) then you won't be getting ushered to your room till the wee small hours. He just enjoys the company even if you can't understand each other. I noticed that the longer I stayed in the bar the better my Italian became. Funny that. The rooms are spotless, the service excellent (although breakfast could do with maybe an occasional boiled egg) and the family are very friendly. All in all, money well spent.

We stayed at the Mistral for a week. When you book, try to reserve a room at the back of the hotel as to avoid the noise from the passing street at the front. Our room was basic, but it was very clean and well looked after, and it was cleaned daily to a good standard. Nice king size bed, makes a nice change from the small UK beds. We had a large balcony with a clothes line for all that wet beach gear. We paid the extra for the air-con, it is a must have in peak summer. It also has a small TV which can simply stayed tuned to MTV.
The hotel is well managed and they can help organise any planned trip you may want to take. The breakfast is basic, the coffee and concentrated orange are better avoided though, grab some cereal and a couple of bread rolls with cheese or jam and you will be fine. There is a small bar and you can grab a cold beer at the end of the day and sit outside, there are about eight tables covered by shade.
There are a handful of decent restaurants and take away pizzerias about fifty meters back towards the airport, good for a quick dinner. There is not much else going at night, in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, you have to go to the beach road to get action.
The walk to the beach is about ten minutes, along the way you will find a great restaurant which comes highly recommended. they will give you a discount if you mention you stay at the Mistral. There is also a decent coffee bar come news agent. The beach itself is all white sand with small food bars every hundred meters or so. The dunes are covered in pine, so if you need some shade and respite from the wind, that is the place to be. The walk to the main town is around twenty minutes along the beach road, many restaurants and bars along the way, so don't be put off by a short walk. We did get the bus a couple of times without a problem. Buy tickets from the hotel before you board as you will not get a ticket on the bus.
This hotel is great value and the crowd was mostly twenties to thirties, so it was good for a decent beach holiday without the rip-off factor.

It is a quiet and clean place to stay for a few days. The staff was very kind and helpful. Great value for money. You can serve a delicious continental breakfast.
The hotel is strategically situated, being at a 10-minute walk away from the two main beaches of Alghero: Spiaggia di Lido and Maria Pia (a very beautiful, pristine and white-sanded beach). It is relatively close to some supermarkets.

Mistral is a nice family run hotel in Alghero, a stone's throw away from the beautiful beach of Maria Pia and about half an hour walk from the city center. We spent 2 night during the peak season in August and everything was fine. The staff was friendly and professional, common areas and our room were always clean, free Wi-Fi was really fast. They follow COVID-19 guidelines strictly.
Recommended.

For a budget hotel it is hard to critcise the Mistral. You can get a room there in the height of the season for as little as £50 a night. The rooms are basic but comfortable and very clean, the owners are friendly and accomodating, the breakfasts good. Although located next to a busy road and a building site/housing complex, it is nonetheless a superb cut price hotel which is well worthy of recommendation.

However. Other reviews on here which state it is a brisk 15 minute walk to the town centre, or say you can always get the bus, are being a little generous. It is at least a 25 minute walk which is a daunting prospect when it has to be undertaken under the burning sun. Less a pleasant stroll, more of a route march.
It may be adjacent to the beach but that is little comfort when it is so hot walking on the sand instead of the road is not a barefooted option.
As for the incredibly cheap buses, the stop is just 2/3 minutes away but as for such things as bus timetables, forget it. More than once we wasted an hour waiting for a bus (albeit wasted the hour in a bar) and eventually had to walk as none appeared.
We were there four days and only on one day did we mange to catch buses with no problems. A couple of times we had to get taxis which are as ridiculous expensive as the buses are cheap.

Overall, an excellent budget hotel which is, in itself, beyond reproach but for the aforementioned reasons we might hesitate to stay there again. Use the money you saved on a hotel to rent a car/moped and all your problems will be solved...

Upon arriving at the hotel you may look around at the surrounding area and think your in central Baghdad, post American occupation, but fear not, it looks rough, but it's ok. A lot of Alghero looks like this, there is a catapult in the old town which may be original or it may not but some kid has scrawled his name on it, try to ignore the graffiti all over the town.

After a friendly greeting at reception and all the formalities I was told I was in a top floor apartment with a roof terrace. This sounded very good, I walked up the stairs, there is a lift which goes to the third floor if you require it.

I entered my room and it was spotlessly clean, just like the rest of the hotel, with a large bed, wardrobe, couple of tables and chairs. On the roof terrace is a table with two chairs.

What I hadn't realised is when they told me I was on a top floor room was that I was next to the roof, I mean I'm 6 foot 1 and there was only a small strip of the floor which I would walk on without bending over. When I laid on the bed I could touch the roof without stretching. My back still hurts now after 10 days in the room. There's only so many times you can bang your head on solid hard wood roof joists before it becomes very annoying (and by that I mean once).

The door to the bathroom is around 5 ft 8 but once inside I could fully stand up to brush my teeth and the shower was a good size with lots of headroom. The toilet, on the other hand, was up 4 steps and there was no way I could fully stand up to us the facility so I had to sit down every time I went, I actually enjoyed this, for some reason!, and may carry it on when I return to England, we'll see.

There was also a small TV which didn't work as there was no arial cable, there was a sky box which you can pay to watch but I didn't bother, it was nice not seeing any depressing news for 10 days. Also, contrary to other reviews, I believe the air conditioning is free now as the remote control is in the room on arrival.

The area is ok, the street the hotel is on is Via Liguria, this leads directly to Via Lido which is the beach front (5 min walk) this road will also take you to Alghero old town (30-40min walk / 2 miles) and Fertilla in the opposite direction, around the same distance. Maria Pia beach is at the end of the road and is beautiful, white sand, clear water it's very nice.

You will do well to avoid the African men selling their wares on the beaches and along Via Lido, one bloke asked me if I spoke English, I said I did and he proceeded to tell me he was Nigerian and all about the plight of his family from 'wore torn' Nigeria to Sardinia, I put my sunglasses back on and wished him all the best for the future and quickly left. I considered buying something but it was all poor quality tat.

Also watch out for Italian drivers (who are worst drivers I have ever seen) zebra crossings mean nothing and all the kids on scooters are infuriating, you will want to kick them off their scooters like I wish I had, I may return to do so one day, but seriously; I would walk out on a zebra crossing and they either stop or will mow you down like a dog in the street. If anyone does let you cross they will be met with a chorus of car horns for doing so.

I think there are buses to the old town and Fertilla but the walk is nice along the sea front, past the harbour with hundreds of boats. There is a road called Viale Europa which is just before Via Lido and there is a supermarket along there (5-10mins walk) with everything you may need. It's cheap as well, I would get 6 x 1.5ltr bottles of water for the room for €1,50. If you stick to these roads and don't try and cut through the Baghdad / Fallujah area at night you will be ok.

Also the nasty smell as mentioned in previous reviews has nothing to do with the hotel, it can be smelled all across Alghero and is the fault of the sewage company (allegedl), if anything it's stronger closer to the ocean

All in all I would recommend this hotel, I paid not much over £400 for 9 nights, the staff are very nice and speak enough English to get by (being a British tourist I made zero effort to learn the language, there's no need!) breakfast is nice with a very good selection, the coffee machine is instant but may use fresh beans, I'm not a coffee expert by any stretch, there's also a good selection of Twinning teas to satisfy us Brits, and on the whole the hotel is very very clean.

I judged places on how expensive they were by the price of an Ichnusa 33cl bottle (the Sardinia lager) the hotel was €3, I found it €2.50 at the Jamaica Inn but €4 elsewhere,
It's a good yardstick to judge value for money.. I left one cafe without ordering at the Ichnusa was €5 and the rest of the menu reflected it

Have fun in Alghero and in the Hotel Mistral

Read the reviews on Tripadvisor and decided to take a chance on Hotel Mistral. Some good points and some not so good. We don't think it was good value as we paid similar rates to London City Rates! Here's what we got/didn't get... we were in the attic on beds which resembled camp beds, covers needed replacing. Stayed 4 days and neither sheets or towels were changed and we reallly were ready for a clean towel to get dried on, the toiletries we not re-stocked either. On the positive side the room was spacious and clean but as my husband is 6'-4" it would have been good to know we were booking a room in an attic with low ceilings (he had several knocks!) and no views either. Location wasn't bad and there was loads of parking space. Breakfast was disappointing, ok just to get you started but our idea of breakfast is not a processed cheese triangle or plastic wrapped cheese slice, the slices of PINK (it was supposed to be ham) didn't thrill us or the bowl of tinned fruit cocktail either. Bread rolls were old on 2 occasions and the unwrapped bowl of muesli would have benefitted from a cover - there is more but I think that's enough. On a plus side parasols and beach towels were available for you to take to the beach. Staff were on the whole quite nice but the lady who booked us in seemed to have had a smile bypass on the day we arrived. To sum up I'd say try somewhere else. Really liked Alghero, lots of good different places to eat in the old town, nice beaches and reasonably priced sunbeds.

We spent 9 days at the Hotel Mistral. They didn't tell us about the dogs before we went. They bark on and off regardless of day or night. I was glad to get home for a good night's sleep. The pillows were inadequate and the hotel room chairs were very uncomfortable. It would have been nice to have at least one comfortable chair in the room. However, the staff were friendly and extremely helpful and the breakfast was adequate.

Mistral was a good Alghero base for us. Location is close to Alghero's enormous soft-sand beach but also a bus/taxi-ride into old town. (We had a car - but how can you blame a hotel for public transport problems?!). A useful base rather than a holiday hotel - efficient, helpful, clean, always someone on hand (they DO speak English, by the way), easy parking. Breakfast reflected the reasonable price (expensive island if not self-catering, but we loved Sardinia and its people).
