There was a huge sense of relief when we arrived at Viadelmare. Everytime I step off a plane onto some foreign soil, I'm hounded by this sense of dread - where a taxi driver will rip us off, locals will cajole us, or animals will attack us.
But we arrived to the open arms of our gracious host. He was just stretching though, it was late enough at night and he was probably getting ready for bed. We were shown to our room which was fairly spacious, with a nice big balcony looking at nothing in particular. Still, it was a nice place to sit in the evenings and muse. We had a shared bathroom which wasn't really a problem except for once when my girlfriend, who was filled to capacity, had to spend 15 minutes jogging on the spot, while who ever was in there kept wetting, then blowdrying, then wetting their hair. Obviously someone strange.
We also had a shared fridge out in the hallway which was great for chilling beers, except for the two that disappeared. I think I was in the wrong though, as I later found out that the shelves were labelled with the room numbers. Still, I hope somewhere someone feels just a twinge of guilt.

You literally walk out the front gate of Viadelmare, cross the road, and you are on the beach. There are lots of different companies to rent the loungers from. Once we sat down in them and they never came to ask for money. We tried that again towards the end of our stay, and a large Italian woman shouted at us - Reservarto!
Unfortunately I dont speak Italian, so didnt know how to say hello back to her, but she seemed really friendly, and kept shouting it until we left.

Alghero town is a nice walk away, about 15 minutes, or a bit longer if you stop to look at all the stalls along the way. It's easy not to get lost though, you just follow the strand along. If you're really bad with directions, like me, I recommend you walk along the beach and just keep your right foot in the water. You cant go wrong. But always remember RIGHT FOOT TO TOWN, LEFT FOOT BACK.

The master and mistress of the house live up on the top floor, and here you must go each morning to eat breakfast with them. Breakfast consists of those little brittle pieces of toast that are so popular on the continent, jam, yoghurt, and another continental breakfast special, the prepackaged chocolate crossaint. There is also a seemingly endless supply of what I believe is known locally as eggy-tart-cake. It's very tasty - but my girlfriend was dead set against eating cake for breakfast.
Still, she had no choice. The mistress of the house (who possibly bakes these tasty cake treats) will not let you leave the table until you have eaten all of the tart. It's a kind of kind bullying that I thought was unique to Irish mothers, but evidently not.

Other features of the master and mistresses house include their children, these are grown up versions of the small ones you sometimes see - and they usually spend their days playing piano. They are actually very talented though, so it can be pleasant to listen to while musing on balconies.

We stayed 5 nights here, and if we were heading back on the same budget, would book here again. Great location and no problems whatsoever.

We stayed at this B+B for four nights in September while in Alghero. The reason I chose this was due to location and price and based also on other reviews I had read on trip advisor. Below are my views on it.

The Location:
The B+B is situated right opposite the Lido Beach, this is the main beach in Alghero and stretches 5km from the old town across to Alghero. It is a very clean beach with lots of little privately owned bars on the beach selling drinks, snacks and where you can hire sun loungers and umbrellas, with a good selection of water sports as well. The B+B is on this road (Vie de Lido) and is literally a matter of closing the gate behind you, crossing the road and then you are on the beach, 15 secs! The location was brilliant and you couldn’t have asked for it any easier. There are a few restaurants that are very close as well, one which is on the beach and is lovely. The walk to the old town looks further then it is, only about 10 mins and it is a lovely walk. There is a marina there and some lovely places to eat, we watched the sun set there and it was beautiful!

The Accommodation:
The house is a lovely four storey Italian home and the owners are very friendly. As far as I can see, there were three rooms rented to guests, two of which shared a bathroom, and one with a private en suite and sea facing balcony. We had the private room and I would recommend this to fellow travellers. The room was spacious with a lovely four poster bed, and the bathroom was lovely with two showers, a bath and two sinks which helps when getting ready. The balcony was also very roomy with a table and some chairs. However, I was very disappointed as our room was not cleaned once while we were there. We had to take the bins out ourselves and make the bed. I am not bothered about the linen being changed every day but I do expect that when staying in a non self catering place, for the room to be cleaned each day. I was very disappointed with this, and for this reason alone I would not return despite the location. The breakfast was also very limited. It was home made cakes by the owner’s wife. I am not a fan of cakes so I found the breakfast very limited.

Getting to and from the airport:
The bus was 70 cents per person each way but this was tricky! Public transport is not what it is in London!
When you exit the airport turn left and the bus stops are about a min walk passed all the hire cars. The bus currently to Alghero leaves every 60 mins on the hour. You need to purchase a ticket at the airport from the ticket machine. This is by the tourist information and is on the right of the airport by the tobacconist and is a red box. You need to have exact change as no shop will give you change. When we arrived the machine was broken, the driver turned up and wouldn’t let us on. he went to the machine which was now working, but as some people, including us, didn’t have correct change, he left without us. The tourist info centre told us the machine wasn’t working when we arrived and that the driver would have a money box on the bus, he didn’t, so be warned as we had to wait another hour for a bus once we managed to get change!

To get to the B+B you can exit either at the camp site (this will be on your right as will the beach) at the top of Vie de Lido and walk straight down for about 10 mins, or you can get off at the station. It is about 20 mins on the bus.

Returning, you need to get a ticket which is only valid for two hours. Tobacconists sell these but not many understand English so we had to walk a long way to get one! The bus going back to the airport is every hour at 30 mins past each hour.

The Weather:
We arrived for a four night break early September and the weather was lovely, very hot. The last day we left at 6.30pm and while at the bus stop there was a temp monitor and it was 37 degrees!

All in all we had a lovely stay but I wouldn’t recommend this B+B. location yes, cleanliness of the room is the only reason I wont return.

I hope this has been helpful, please contact me if you have any questions.

We were there from 23rd-30th of August 2012 and it was great! We came there spontaneously because freinds of us booked a room there. The whole family, Mother, father, sons, daughter in law, everyone was so nice and friendly, helpful and interested. The rooms were very clean. the cleaning lady came almost every day and was a very nice lady by the way.
The breakfast was typically italian and the hosts made sure that there is always enough for everyone.
It was 5meters to the beach.
We really enjoyed it and will definatly come back to that B&B!!!!

My girlfriend and i stayed here for 5 days in June and had a wonderful stay. It is 30 seconds from the beach and just a 15min walk to the old town. There are different rooms in the B&B but we managed to book one with a private bathroom and a private terrace !!! The host Tiziano is very helpful, breakfasts are basic but nice, but there is a great restaurant around the corner called Las Arenas which does excellent pizza's. I'm not a wine buff but the local red wine called Monica de Alghero is very tasty and is cheap compared to beers. In terms of something to do I'd highly recommend going on a boat trip to Grotto di Nettuno. The only down point was that we had to pay by cash as they don't accept credit cards. You can book the B&B at http://www.bbplanet.it/.

John & I stayed at this B&B during June, firstly we were aprehensive especially arriving at 11pm in the dark not knowing what to expect as 1 or 2 reviews weren't that good. well, all I can say is we had a great time in Algerho the B&B was great too, the owners were very helpful and the breakfast was more than enogh for anyone. The fact that we shared a bathroom would have been a bit of a problem or so we thought but it was not at all, it was never occupied when we need it.......................thumbs up for viadelmare. Thank you.........

When we booked our B and Bs for our week in Sardinia I read all the reviews on Tripadvisor and then booked on other peoples ratings...what a mistake.2 of the places we stayed in people had rated them 5/5...you have to be joking.See my other reviews. This place we found through the local information office. It was on the Lido, bright, clean and with a sea view.On the last day the owner even let us stay until 6 pm.We had a car and within 10 minutes you are on totally deserted beaches...wonderful.

If you're not italian, or fluent in this country's language, this B&B should be avoided. The owners are beeing really friendly only with italians. They seem to cultivate a secret despise of tourists from other regions of the world, showing you a kind of bored indifference and making you feel like a burden to them as soon as you ask for something. And you have to ask: the standards are low for the price - rooms are very small, they become very hot at night, and the aircondition wasn't working when we were there. The cleaning takes place only once every 4th day, although people drag in tons of sand from the beach during the summer. The breakfast is practically unexistent. The toilet paper is rationed. There is a mosquito problem to which nothing is beeing done (you're not even told about it). The only good things are the fact that you can use the kitchen to cook (and that's important because the restaurants are really expensive in Alghero) and the fact that the B&B is situated right in front of the beach. That's probably why they don't have to bother about being nice to you: they'll always have guests anyway. But while staying at Viadelmare we realised how important the attitude of the B&B hosts are to the overall impression of your hollidays after all. Ours was affected in a negative way by these unfriendly hosts.

Myself and my 8 year old Daughter arrived at @ 11pm after a 10 minute bus journey from the airport and rang the bell on the gate....we were greeted by Tiziano who was a very friendly guy - he showed us to our room and explained that we had a tray for breakfast waiting for us on the table in the communal kitchen - very clean and well maintained......breakfast consisted of croissant type roll in cellophane, cherry, peach, berry jam and french toast or trifle sponges! My Daughter loved it.....We also had orange juice and there was coffee available with milk.....overall a good and convenient stopover for the first night as for the latter part of our holiday we were staying at La Mariposa Campeggio which was only a further 500m along Via Lido.......we will do the same next time!

We stayed one night at this place, rooms were adequate, also breakfast. However, the shared bathroom was not, it was not so clean, meanwhile you were taking a shower in a tiny space, closed with a door, people could enter in the bathroom which meant there was no intimacy at all.

Location is great!

If they improve the bathroom it would become a very good place to stay, good relation price-quality, but this requirement is a must.

We stayed at this bed and breakfast August 28th - Sept 2. The location is prime! We didn't even need to put on shoes to walk across the street and enjoy the beach. Our room was very nice and the perfect amount of space for myself and boyfriend. We even had a lovely terrace. The bathroom was shared but the entire place was immaculate - so clean. It's obvious that the entire family and the house keeper take great pride in this bed and breakfast. The family was incredible - they really made all the difference during our stay. They were helpful and had tons of information and suggestions for us. Things we never even thought of were anticipated and we could not be more grateful for all that they added to our trip.
