We were in Ortigia for a wedding and decided to spend an extra few days. The hotel is delightful, well located, cool, clean and well-appointed rooms and we had a small terrace overlooking the sea. The staff were incredibly helpful, going above and beyond to help us enjoy our stay. We used the free bikes, perfect for exploring and the hotel taxis (which are cheaper than locals). Breakfast plentiful, fresh cannoli daily! Ortigia is a fascinating and beautiful place to explore, from the 3rd century temples to baroque churches to Fratelli Burgio deli to ocean swimming, everything is within easy walking distance. A great few days, made easy by the friendly hotel team.
Situated on the quieter eastern-facing side of Ortigia, this character-filled hotel, decorated in a kind of hybrid Italian/Moroccan style, overlooks the sea and is about a 20 minute walk from the main train or bus station. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. Breakfast is included, with a slant towards Sicilian cuisine, with all sorts of sweet pastries and cakes along with cheese, fresh fruit, yoghurt and so forth. They will cook you hot food as part of the breakfast. The standard room that we booked was a little small and looked out onto a wall so we upgraded to a junior suite (room 106) which has a nice seaview (you are looking across a small car park but it's still very nice to look at the yachts on the sparkling water). However this does bring the price up (in our case 350 euros a night) which is on the high end, but the location and the setting I think are worth it. You do not, however, have a balcony in this room though I believe some of the other rooms do have them. The front window can be opened fully though to let the sea breeze through, if you want. It's a fairly quiet area so while there's some occasional traffic, it's not really an issue. The actual room was great, with excellent aircon and a comfortable bed, but we do prefer a firm mattress, which this definitely was. A nice touch is that the minibar is full of still and sparkling water and soft drinks which are all free. Also a bowl of fresh fruit was provided on checkin. The hotel will pick up and drop off to Catania airport for 60 euros which is I think a very good option as it is under an hour by car. There is a nice cozy bar downstairs along with the restaurant; the food there is quite nice though portions are small so you may want to order a couple of side dishes. Italy has obviously suffered badly during the pandemic and the hospitality sector is still ramping back up. This means that at times staffing levels were fairly modest and you might have to pop to reception if the bar is unstaffed; the folks there are extremely helpful and will ensure you are served quickly, This also means that you may want to book early in the day for the restaurant as a large table booking can stretch them to capacity - there are, of course, lots of restaurants within a short stroll of the hotel. I will say though that we really enjoyed our stay here. It is the staff that ultimately determine your hotel experience and the staff here are, as I said, absolutely lovely and helpful.…
We cancelled our hotel in Catania and stayed here instead for an extra night so making our stay here 4 nights. We got a very good deal and upgraded to a junior suite room no 106 which was fabulous and well worth the money. Thank you Stevano. Thanks also to Marcella, Eric, Sonya who is always smiling and Carla. I'm sorry that I don't recall the names of all the other hard working and always pleasant staff. Other reviewers have already commented on the location which is hugely convenient to everything and yet this hotel is so quiet and peaceful. Spotless, fantastic breakfast, intimate little bar area, beautifully designed public areas, efficient and pleasant staff all contributed to a lovely stay. Would I return? In a heartbeat if I get the chance.
This was our second stay here. We had a very fine stay here 3 years ago, before covid, and were delighted to return. While absolutely everything was fine, I wish to mention especially the breakfast and the coffee. Both were the best we had during our trip in Sicily.
This was our second visit to Sicily but our first to Syracusa / Ortigia and we were delighted that we had chosen this hotel for our 3 night stay. It is ideally placed, the buildings themselves are lovely on the outside and stunning on the inside, our room was good sized and had a French balcony. The staff were friendly and accommodating providing a map when we checked in to help find our way around and there are a range of amenities for guests including bikes and umbrellas if required. When we first booked in we had a minor problem in that our room wouldn't lock and we were immediately offered a different room or the option of getting the lock fixed as soon as possible, we chose the latter and it was done very quickly indeed which demonstrates good customer service. The breakfast is outstanding and despite the fact there are plenty of eateries close by it is worth having a meal in the hotel one evening, a most enjoyable experience. Would we stay there again? Yes, without question.…
We are currently staying at the Algila, and we are having the best time. From the moment we arrived, the staff has treated us as if we were long lost relatives. Restaurant reservations at the best of the best places, directions to all of the places we want to see, an awesome breakfast buffet each morning, and little extras like helping us to untangle a travel problem created by our travel agent at home that they really had no business getting involved with. Marchello in particular has been an unbelievable friend to us, but the entire staff has gone out of their way to make us feel welcome. Thank you to everyone at the Algila, you are giving us an unparalleled experience in Siracusa! Brian & Andrea Smith
Great location and excellent service, especially the breakfast and restaurant staff. Always remembered what my coffee and breakfast choice were without having to say! Everyone was very friendly and helpful and the location was perfect. Hard to say anything negative about this hotel.
Very pleasant hotel.Well located on Ortigia, in the quieter part of town which we appreciated. Prettily decorated room with a sea view and balcony. Wardrobe could have been longer for dresses. Good breakfast.
Perfectly nice hotel but quite expensive and the standard isn’t what you’d normally expect. For instance the mattresses are quite simple and not very comfortable. Nice and helpful staff, good location, pretty hotel.
This hotel is located near the sea and close to the city shops, bars and restaurants . It’s two buildings next to each other and each room is different . The top rooms have an extra rooftop balcony with a lovely view of the sunrise and sea . Great breakfast, wonderful staff . You will not be disappointed. Enjoy your stay .
