We stayed at this very nice hotel for 1 week.
Good location, walking distance to the center, although the road went uphill
Professional and welcoming on arrival.
Rooms: Clean and stylish, comfortable beds. The room was spacious with good shower and toilet
Breakfast: Good and many options, could vary the supply a little more it was basically the same every day. The service at breakfast was very good and their coffee excellent.

We changed our destination to Sicily and this hotel at the last minute, due to quarantine restrictions with the Algarve. It is a lovely old hotel with fantastic views. A few minutes walk into the old town and shops and restaurants. Lovely Gardens next door, built by the lady that built the hotel and Isle Isabel nature reserve, what a grand place it must have been then!!!! Staff were friendly, breakfast was good, just ask for scrambled eggs or bacon if you want them! The chocolate, lemon and almond cakes were delicious. Coffee was served in a coffee pot with a jug of hot frothy milk, as it should be, not from a machine, a definite plus from us!!!! We ate one evening meal there and it did not dissapoint, it was lovely. It may be a little tired in places, but the unique period furniture and carpets and pictures were a welcome change from the somewhat sterile interiors of the 'chain' hotels, it was an unexpected enjoyable week!!!

Stayed half board at this hotel for a very pleasant fortnight of rest and recuperation. The hotel staff are all friendly and helpful. The rooms are cleaned well every day with fresh linen and towels. The air conditioning worked quietly and the bed was one of the best hotel beds I have slept in.
Food was excellent and served in a stunning dining room. Not sure how people thought the breakfast was limited as there was a broad buffet of good quality products. Evening meals were very Italian, of good quality with a menu that changed every day.
The pool area was beautiful, but you need to be able to manage steps to get to it.
The hotel is built into the hill side, so is not suitable for those in wheelchairs as there does not appear to be disabled access.
The gardens of the hotel and the park next door are well kept.
The only slight gripe I had is that the carpets in lobbies and corridors could do with updating and only one key per room limits what you can do. Some investment in new technology would benefit the staff’s ability to do their jobs, particularly in the dining room. A fully purposed bar would also be an improvement, although the gentleman who serves the drinks does his best.
All-in-all a very good holiday.

I will start with the few things in favor of this hotel.

The first room we were given was small and clearly unrenovated. Upon complaining reception willingly gave as the room next door which was bigger and far better. In a hotel half full at best: why not give us that room in the first place?

The view from our room was fantastic.

The hotel is located only a few minutes walking distance from the town center.

WIFI was fast and stable.

Pool area is nice, also the hotel garden.

Now all the thing that will make us never come back:

Parking is a nightmare as the hotel as only very few parking places along their front entrance. I don´t want to imagine what happens if they are fully booked.

Breakfast is a joke even by Italian standards. Old bread, artificial juice, fried eggs or omeletts to order only for extra money. Right now almost everything must be handed over by staff due to Covid, but strangely enough coffee is served and bread and butter in the open for self service.

The (supposingly) restaurant chief is RUDE!! We asked wether the terrace was open. He opened the door and pointed out "Here, the door is open!". We asked why we could not have breakfast out there with the beautiful view in the sun and got the answer: "It is impossible!" We asked. "Why?" "Because it is impossible!" and the guy left us standing there.

My wife dared to touch a boiled egg with the back of her hand to see if it was warm and got shouted at by the staff woman, the same woman who walkes the restaurant with the mask down her face.

The pool is generally nice but ice cold. We had a toasted sandwich at the pool bar which was expensive and horrible.

As stated above we were not allowed to have breakfast on the restaurant terrace. On our last night there was a large wedding taking place exactly on that terrace right underneath our balcony which lasted until luckily the rain started at 4 am in the morning. No way one could sleep with the balcony door open, the noise could easily be heard even with everything closed.
Needless to add: nobody of the wedding party cared to wear a mask at any time.

Upon checkout we found out that the water bottles in the fridge were 3 Euros each which nobody told us beforehand and which is more than incommon for a hotel in this price range. For fairness: after complaining the water was taken off the bill.

This gracious, comfortable hotel has stunning views. These are obtained from many rooms, the dining and lounge room and a huge top floor terrace. The hotel dates to 1898 and has a long history of distinguished guests, including many literary figures and the intelligentsia. The dining room is magnificent, with high ceilings and Belle Époque design and furnishings. It has gobsmacking coastal and sea views, as well as of Mount Etna. When we were there, one could admire, over breakfast, both a snowy Mount Etna and the sea views. Staff are professional and friendly. There is a generous, quality buffet breakfast, which was included with our tariff. Luncheon and dinner also was served daily, which was convenient and afforded guests more opportunities to enjoy the glorious views. Highly recommended.

We stayed at Hotel Villa Diadoro from 1st June - 8th June and needed a central location as we were attending a friends wedding in Taormina. You cannot fault the location and the views as other reviews state, you’re situated right next to a lovely park and a short 10 minute walk (although uphill) into the main strip.
To start with the negatives, firstly, the air con wasn’t working for the first 3 nights of our trip and was absolutely unbearable. We travelled with our two children who are 2 and 1 and it was stressful and upsetting to see them so uncomfortable at night time. We asked reception every time we passed when the air con was getting fixed and didn’t get much response. On the second day my husband asked for a fan after reading another recent review on here and we were given one the day after which helped slightly. During these 3 days I was so close to booking another hotel as we couldn’t imagine spending another day being so uncomfortable. We found out from another guest the air con had been fixed on our fourth day and was relieved, only then to find that ours wasn’t working properly in our room meaning we couldn’t adjust the temperature or turn the air con off (which felt silly now moaning it being too cold) but you just need as much ease as possible with two small children.
Secondly, we had a small, very dated room facing out to the front of the hotel, no nice views and about an 80cm deep balcony! Almost no point having one, I thought maybe they thought this safest with small children but it actually wasn’t as there was no room to move on it.
Our double buggy also didn’t fit in the lift or into our room which was also hard work, especially when the air con wasn’t working! We had to carry it up and down 2 flights of stairs every day.
However, to end on positives, the grounds and pool were well kept and beautiful, there was a smaller, separate pool for children, the staff were very friendly and our room was spotlessly cleaned every day. Towels were provided for guests around the pool which was also a nice touch.
Overall, a good hotel if you’re a couple looking for a central location and beautiful views but definitely a no for young children!

Third time in Taormina, second at Hotel Villa Diodoro. We probably came here about 11 years ago during school holidays. I remember it was lovely, but busy.
During these weird and wonderful times, we braved the mask wearing flight and chose the Diodoro again because it felt safe and familiar. So glad we did. It was very quiet, which had its advantages and its disadvantages... no worries getting a sunbed; the dining experience was quiet, breakfast was quiet, but we didn't feel that there was any compromise with the food, which was really delicious. Another reviewer commented on the 'same' menu every night and that was a little tiresome, but given how quiet the hotel was, I guess we were lucky to get the choices we did. The soups were especially good!!!
Another advantage of the quiet was the opportunity to chat to the lovely staff.
Andrea and Daniele in particular made great efforts to make us feel welcome.
As the hotel wasn't full, there were less staff who all worked so very hard.

It's been said before, the location is great. We were upgraded to a room with sea view and balcony which overlooked Mt Etna and the Bay. Fabulous experience, pity the airport experience at Catania was so awful!

This hotel is on the whole a great hotel. The location is excellent and the views are stunning! We spent a very enjoyable 2 weeks in this hotel and have few complaints although there are a few things that could be improved upon. The hotel is a little jaded but our room was spotlessly clean as were the common areas although the carpets could do it’s a good scrub.

We were staying on a half board basis so breakfast and dinner were included. The breakfast buffet was fine with a wide selection to suit all tastes from scrambled egg and bacon to the most delicious cakes and pastries. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Dinner in the main restaurant provided a great selection of Italian food and the menu changed daily which was good however, this hotel is of an era where all things would have originally centred around the hotel and the dining room is beautiful but huge. As there were only Approx 10-15 tables for dinner each evening we found ourselves eating in a room big enough to seat 200 with empty tables all around us which was completely devoid of all atmosphere which was a shame as the staff worked so hard to make dinner a success. One evening a wedding party was on so our evening meal was moved to a much smaller intimate room which was so much nicer so and was a shame that this room with its stunning views was not used more for this purpose to give a more intimate and personal feel.

The bar has stunning views but it is not a purposefully set up bar and we had to go hunting for the barman on numerous occasions as he had to assist in the dining room which was a nuisance. That said the chap managed very well but had this been a fully staffed bar we would have been happy to sit there all evening listening to the jazz and looking at the view on the nights we weren’t going into town.

The pool is down the cliff and there are 60 steps to negotiate to get to it which is fine going down but hard work going back up!

The pool bar serves snacks and drinks all day but I have to say the menu choices are not great and the toasted sandwiches are appalling! There is a choice of either salads or toasted sandwiches and that’s it. There is supposed to be a dish of the day but for 6 days on the trot it was the same salad (and you can only eat so many tomatoes or so much Tuna). The hotel are missing a trick here as many people seemed to leave the pool to lunch elsewhere as would we have done had it not been the 60 step uphill climb!

I have to say out of all the staff in the hotel the pool staff were the worst. They were rude and not particularly pleasant and more effort should be made in this area.

This was our 3rd visit to the hotel. Initially in 1996, then 2012 and now for a week in August. We have always loved Taormina and have returned each time for special anniversaries. The Villa Diadora's main attraction is it's location. Stunning views from the pool of the sea and Etna and so easy to walk through the pretty park next door to the centre of the town. Price wise it is more reasonable than other hotels nearby too.

We booked a double superior room with sea view on the top floor and a double room (with single use) for our adult daughter with a garden view. To our surprise, our room was reasonably small with a basic bathroom (bath, no shower, just a hand held shower head). Not enough room to store our luggage and quite basic in furnishing. Many people would say that Italian hotels are more old fashioned and quaint, which is charming, but we felt our room was sparse. Yes the views were glorious, but as the receptionist said on my query of a superior room - I was only paying for the view! In comparison, our daughter's less expensive room was larger, better furnished and had a bathroom with double sinks and shower and bath which was half the size of our whole bedroom! So my advice is choose the your room wisely. The room was kept very clean, although the shutters did not work properly.

Some one else mentioned that the carpets were stained and very worn (still the same ones as in 1996!) A number of the sunbeds were broken (headrests) and the palava of having to get a voucher at reception for one pool towel each day was annoying (tip: take your own) The breakfast, was poor. No real choice and not enough. The staff , although polite, were not friendly or very attentive.

Such a shame as this is such a lovely old hotel but it is in dire need of some renovation and customer service. It is worth staying for the pool and location (not for those with walking problems - too many steps to the pool) and if you can find yourself a bigger bedroom and overlook the limited breakfast and decor then I woukd say, hive it a go.

Like a reality check for an aging movie star, this hotel wants to still be in the limelight but no longer deserves to be. You can see remnants of stardom - the pool is large and inviting, the grounds are well cared for, the sister hotel down at the beach provides a convenient resource and the quaint architecture calls out to a previous era.

Yet, when you look below the surface, it's not a pretty picture. The rooms are sorely lacking in outlets for anyone who has more than a cell phone. Renovated is a debatable term. The walls are extremely thin. The hallways need more than a small refresh, and several of the front desk employees are not grounded in reality or simply are being told what to do by management that clearly is $$ first, guests second.

Why else would a hotel book a wedding on a Tuesday night that kept most all of the hotel awake until almost 3a while the front desk communicated it would be over at (choose one) 11p, 12a, 12:15a?

Additionally, the hotel's power grid is clearly from a pre-historic era. Perhaps not coincidentally, the entire electrical system was (at best) working intermittently most of that evening. And given the late summer heat wave in Europe (thank you climate change), it made for a miserable experience. Suffice it to say the numerous complaints lodged by us and other hotel guests were not satisfactorily resolved. So much for customer service.

There are many hotel options in Taormina. Look elsewhere.

I believe so. Worth checking with hotel as whilst elevator may get you there, the age of the hotel means there are steps almost everywhere. If you can handle some steps you should be ok, otherwise this hotel probably isnt for you

When I was there in May, it was fresh but ok for swimming. I understand that it feels much warmer in the summer and would have been warmer in May had the weather been as usual - the lower than normal ambient temperatures just meant it was cooler.
