This is a nice hotel but it is NOT deserving of a 5 star status.

As with other reviews the hotel is tired and whilst I appreciate that the pandemic will have added financial difficulties for the hotel modernisation is key now.

I booked a sea view room well aware that the view was the main driver for the price. On reflection I’m not sure it was worth it. As mentioned the hotel needs to be modernised. The furniture is all dated and the walls need a fresh coat of paint. The bathroom is very tired with a shower head that only offered 50% coverage and looked like it needed to be de-scaled or replaced. The water also took 10 minutes to heat up when running the shower which is ironic as the bathroom has a poster asking you to save water for the environment. The towels are changed regularly but one of the towels I was left with smelt incredibly musty. The balcony furniture is also dated and the chairs are iron and uncomfortable. Cushions should be included as standard. The tv only played Italian channels which is fine but I would expect at least one English speaking channel.

The wifi was patchy and dropped in and out. I did not have this problem at other places that I stayed at.

The breakfast was poor for a 5 star. The continental offering is standard and fine but the only cooked option is scrambled eggs buffet style and bacon. If you want poached or fried eggs then you need to pay extra. I don’t think this is acceptable for a 5 star hotel. The coffee came from an urn which is also unacceptable for a 5 star hotel and is ironic as Italians take coffee very seriously. Coffee in a 5 star hotel should be freshly made and not sitting in a big pit waiting to be distributed. Whilst the breakfast staff were nice one member spoke limited English and given that, due to covid requirements, they serve you the buffet means that communication is hard to get what you would like.

The pool area is nice and the pool is good but I think the pool attendants need to be more helpful and alert to new people arriving and setting up the loungers. Again, this is an expectation of a 5 star hotel.

My stay was fine but I would not stay here again. This isn’t because it’s a bad hotel but because it does not merit 5 stars and is therefore not worth the money you pay.

This is a hotel with stunning sea views, beautiful views of the ocean and wonderful staff that are always smiling and willing to engage.

Breakfast is a buffet offering a wide choice of great food. All dining was on one of two wonderful terraces looking over the ocean, with table cloths and silverware.

The pool area is pleasant and was not crowded despite our week at the start of the main summer season. The staff at the poolside were excellent and great to see each day. My only suggestion would be that the poolside bar offer a wider selection of small food options (they may do panini but no menu was on display) and the main restaurant lunch options were great but formal.

My partner and I had a 4th floor end room and the views were stunning over the ocean and even the plants on our balcony were maintained to a good standard.

Our room was great, some minor of the decor & areas of the bathroom probably need a bit of attention but that did not detract from the stay.

Towels in the room sometimes seemed to be changed too frequently which I would suggest that they could cut back on.

Overall I loved the hotel and the location which was a peaceful retreat from busy Taromina beaches and town.

Lovely room with a great view. Enjoyed the breakfasts in lovely location on the terrace.

We found the walk into the town up the steps to the left of the hotel no problem; you can also walk up the road to the bus station in less than 10 mins (for excursions). Town is lovely.

Constructive comments:
Introduction to room was a little cursory, e.g. were found out by chance that the soft drinks in the mini bar were complementary (including very nice smoothies).
It would have been nice to have an egg station at breakfast
We would have preferred no music at the pool bar (disturbing if want to read or listen to own music though headphones)
The water in the pool was very cold despite the very warm weather - I presume it is not heated
On our first night there was a very loud event at a nieghbouring hotel (music and DJ) but it was just the first night.

We were most impressed with the room housekeeping.

We were unimpressed with the beaches and the town by the sea which you can reach from the cable car just up from the bus station (cheap ride up and down for 3 euros though). It was a busy road, not much there that we could see, and crowded on the cobbled beaches towards Bella Isle.

Highlights: Taormina town; walk through the gardens with view of sea and Etna; Andreas Restaurant opposite the gardens (not the one next to it); excursions to Etna, Stromboli and Syracuse; Castlemola is nice village at the top of the hill: cheap bus ride up and we walked back down the path to Taormina (around 40 mins).

Besides the fact that on the outside the hotel looks spectacular, even on the inside everything is set up to the last detail.
Everything is very clean and sanitized, the hosts very welcoming and the service offered is definetely worth 5 stars, especially the staff who take care of the well-being of each client. I did a few massage sessions and I want to thank Elena in this way because she has golden hands. I am very impressed by the professionalism she showed and by the whole team.
Definetely if visiting I would recommend. I declare myself in love with this place.

The location fully deserves 5*, while the condition of the room / hotel facilities and the service is significantly below the 5* standard. Based on other hotels in the same price category, we would have expected a much higher customer orientation of the staff (it is worth mentioning that, during our stay, the hotel was far from fully booked). Nevertheless, Taormina is great city and there are plenty of things to do outside the hotel.

We loved this hotel - beautiful views, modern big rooms (deluxe), lovely service with old world charm and unobtrusive efficiency. We had interconnecting rooms for a family of 4, each with a balcony. The pool is a lovely size and Dario at the poolside merits a special shout-out for being so helpful with moving our loungers around to escape the sun. The spa is lovely, great massage, food delicious... and a shuttle bus takes you to Taormina centre and back with notice of just one hour needed. All in all a wonderful place to spend a holiday and we will be back.

Wow. From first walking through the doors this hotel has been nothing but perfect. The staff are delightful and helpful, the food is delicious, with great breakfasts, pool snacks and evening dining. And the views from the pool and dining terrace are breath taking.

The room is beautiful with a stunning view of the ocean (we are in room 208 ocean view junior suite).

The hotel has a traditional ambience, is quiet (no offensively loud music playing), high quality without being pretentious and very very relaxing.

The shuttle service to and from Taormina town is very useful too, although you can walk it if so inclined and don’t mind hills!

We are still here but are already planning to come back next year. This hotel is just wonderful.

Great location and friendly staff. Excellent breakfast with a little of a language barrier with the staff. This hotel is definitely not a 5 star hotel. Hotel is outdated and bathroom had visual mold issues. Shower temperature was not steady at all to the point where I screamed that it was either freezing cold or scolding hot. Toilet was constantly running. Considering we booked a junior suite and paid extra, we were on the first floor after requesting a higher floor when booked. We were told that the first floor is the only floor with a junior suite. We later found out that this was incorrect. The second floor was also Junior suites.

Dear Guest, we would like to thank you for choosing the Grand Hotel San Pietro for your holiday in Taormina. We appreciate your satisfaction with the small breakfast and it will be our care to improve the understanding and dialectic in English of all our staff. We are very sorry to hear about your problems with the shower. We are aware that we have to make some structural interventions, which is already in our programs. Regarding the assignment of your room, there was probably a misunderstanding at the time of booking and for which we apologize. Wonderful hotel in a stunning location. My husband and I stayed here for part of our honeymoon. It was exactly what we hoped for and envisioned. I really think the photos cannot do this place justice. The view is unmatched and probably one of the best you will find at a hotel in Taormina. The food for breakfast and at the restaurant overlooking the sea is also exquisite. The location is perfect - set into a quiet hillside not too far from city center, but away from major roads and public buildings so it is very quiet with no road noise. The hotel has a shuttle that can take you to city center and pick you up every hour if you reserve in advance. Rooms are comfortable, quiet and air conditioned. Beds were a medium firmness while comfy and cozy. I enjoyed the spa one day, the massage was lovely and the spa is high class. Lastly, the staff is wonderful, so kind, and truly took our experience to another level. We can’t wait to come back someday!!

Absolutely loved this hotel. Understated elegance quality without the flash.
The staff are a major asset. Francesca was fantastic rescuing us from the airport when we missed a connection. The boys at the pool were really helpful and cheerful thanks for the Tanqueray. Major thanks to Gabriella(hope I got that right restaurant waitress) who organised a great boat trip for us with no fuss, lovely skipper sorry we didn’t see you again to thank you properly.
The position of this hotel is brilliant totally quiet and peaceful but less than 10 minutes from the heart of the bustling Taormina by foot.
We had never been to Sicily before usually visiting Sardinia but will revisit next year and there will only be one hotel on our agenda
Thank you
